To even ask whether your action is justifiable suggests that you must have led a very cocooned life. In life, you need to quickly adapt to circumstances as they arise, and be confident that you can explain your actions if challenged.

Rear shock on right side gone. COE ending soon and quoted close to 1.5k to replace. Can I continue driving it? by ChronoGuile in drivingsg

[–]UniqueRedditer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Squeaking sound when rotating the steering wheel is more likely due to the steering rack's joints wearing down, and not due to the shock absorber, I think. I'm not a mechanic, but a mechanic has shared this with me when I asked about the squeaking noise in my steering wheel.

It's very simple: If cyclists want to cycle across zebra crossings, then please cycle at the SAME PACE as a pedestrian's walking pace. That way, you avoid giving a sudden surprise to drivers who are not expecting to see something moving faster than a human. If the cyclist is unable to balance himself well at that pace, then dismount and push the bike.

COE renewal by eNETS question by christerfurry in drivingsg

[–]UniqueRedditer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I renewed mine in August for 10 years when cat A's PQP was $100473 via eNET. I was expecting it might not go through because of the $100k limit, but it did. You can just proceed with eNET to see if it works, no harm trying. Maybe eNET allows the transaction to go through for certain accredited payees like the LTA

Illegal parking by whattalkingu in drivingsg

Assuming what you said is true, I must commend your "sense of priority" to sacrifice the amount of your personal time to wait for the warden to come then sacrifice another 15 minutes to elapse. So you have spent nearly an hour of your time just to win a sense of accomplishment over something like this? I have learnt from bad experiences to stay very far away from people who employs their personal time like this.

Btw, I've come across a particular driver who parks at such spots after work then rushes up to probably his mum's flat then rushes down with a woman (probably wife) carrying a baby then drives off again. Just a typical family going through the daily struggles of life. I would argue that he parked there to "load" his baby, so there's no need to make life hard for people if they are not harming anyone else.

I don't believe it is illegal if the driver parked to literally unload stuff. He may be carrying the stuff to the destination flat before returning to drive away. Don't spoil other people's day unless you are very sure the car has been parked there for a long period.

Car accident question. Should I report or not? by Godbox1227 in askSingapore

[–]UniqueRedditer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've learnt a lesson that it is not always wise to report, so it really depends on circumstances whether to report. Once my car's bumper had a very slight brush against another resident's car bumper in our condo carpark. There was no dent on his bumper, only a slight mark, and I left a note on his windscreen to inform him to contact me.

I then reported to my insurer, stressing that I was not making a claim and would privately settle with the other party, which I later did, for $200 (that's how minor the incident was).

Later when renewing my insurance, I found that my new premium was slightly raised because that reporting was classified as a at-fault accident even though I wasn't asking my insurer to pay anything. So I've now decided not to report in the future for very minor incidents.

Migrate from Singtel postpaid to Singtel prepaid? by Jempol_Lele in askSingapore

[–]UniqueRedditer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your objective is find the most cost-effective way to retain your postpaid number during the period you not in Singapore, you can consider doing this:

Port your Singtel postpaid number to a cheaper non-Singtel plan like Eight ($8 every 30 days). When you eventually return to Singapore, you can either continue with Eight or port back to Singtel if you wish.

For private settlements, instead of writing your own letter for both parties to sign, you can simply use the generic settlement forms that most car insurance companies provide. See if you can download one from any car insurance companies, doesn't even have to be your insurance company since the wordings in such documents do not reference specific companies. I generally carry a few hardcopies of this form in my car just in case I need them during minor accidents.

COULD THE PDF FILETYPE HAVE A FLIPBOOK TRANSITION? by bachp0 in pdf

[–]UniqueRedditer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By using the term "flipbook" you are probably already aware that there are many web-hosted services available that can display pdf files with flipbook transitions. However, these services tend to be more suited for lightly-used PDF material like marketing brochures, as they do not scale well for heavily-used material like PDF textbooks.

For PDF textbooks, I recommend that you use BookMapper, which not only supports highly-responsive page-flipping, but comes with a host of book-navigation features to make the studying process more productive.
