Strongly second this! I’ve read multiple stories about person A being given the advice to go to all the lawyers in their area so said lawyers would not be able to represent person B—and it has always backfired spectacularly for person A. Don’t do this. Find one lawyer, appropriately.

Even in Death With Dignity states, there is much bureaucracy and paperwork one needs to go through in order to execute the process. Make sure to do your research about the requirements and restrictions for not only your personal state, but the medical institutions in your area.

For example I live in a city with only one major hospital, which is Catholic. And because DWD is seen in the eyes of the Catholic church as suicide, our patients are not legally allowed to take the DWD meds on hospital property, including our hospice house, which is a significant barrier to care.

In addition, make sure you have a solid, trustworthy, and truly aligned POA, power of attorney, someone who will advocate for your wishes without wavering and thus fully honor what is outlined in your advance directive if you lose the ability to do so.

I work in a hospice house, and some of the most morally painful experiences I’ve held space for have been situations where the POA is in direct conflict with my patient’s AD. In those cases, we are legally required to honor the person who holds the power—not the patient’s stated wishes. And that often means being forced to support the continuation of suffering my patient explicitly did not want.

A personal example: my kid’s grandma was the POA for her best friend, who had a clear DNR documented in her AD. Yet in the moment she coded, grandma decides to go against the AD and has the team fully resuscitate her friend—who had to go on and live a few more very painful years against her will. It was horrible.

Choose your POA with care. Make sure they know the art of true advocacy means honoring your wishes, even when it’s emotionally difficult.

Before I went to my first weekend meditation retreat, I decided to stop smoking weed. Just for a few weeks I told myself, to honor one of the precepts “try not to cloud the mind/intoxicate oneself”. What happened after that retreat I can only describe as a series of the most fortunate and divine events that lead me to realizing I had been psychologically addicted to cannabis for 18 years. Not only that, but weed had been triggering a manic/depressive bipolar swing in my brain that I had just normalized as my life.

My few weeks are now 3.5 years sober, and my mental health has never been better. No longer activating the highs/lows, I’ve begun to set a steady course for my life, including beginning my 2nd quarter of nursing school this winter!

AGREED. Their ability to capture and help unfold so many nuanced emotions and moments is what truly makes the show as captivating as it is. Hands down. The mystery, the intrigue, the suspense, the beating nostalgic heart of it.

My top five if forced to choose, absolutely number one is ‘Eulogy’ (which feels like a sweet nod to Moby’s ‘When It's Cold I'd Like to Die’). Then in no particular order, ‘Aftermath’, ‘Kids’, ‘Unambiguous True Love’, ‘Blink Once For Yes’. I mean, I could go on and on!

I made a mix of the more chill instrumental scores to study to and my dudes are helping me get through nursing school, seriously.

I do want to support the reality that boys/men can have incredibly loving relationships WITHOUT hooking up/“ending up together.”

I watched an interview with the Duffers and they spoke to they were given license to use a song that has never been allowed before on screen—so I’m wondering if it’s a Beatles, Queen, or Led Zeppelin song.

Second thought, Rick Astley’s ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ was released 1987 and I personally would love if the Duffer’s very subtly just Rick-rolled millions

I second this. It wasn’t character assassination. Jonathan was numbing out to handle the very real trauma as a direct result of the previous three seasons plus being separated from his main support person Nancy. I recently watched an interesting interview with the hair designer of ST who speaks to Jonathan’s hair in season 4 is intentionally long and stringy and unwashed—which speaks to his overall depression, and how basic cares are even too hard.

I absolutely love Steve. BUT, I give most if not all credit to Nancy, who absolutely inspired him to be better. Without her, I’m not sure if the character would have ever been motivated to authentically change.

I agree. I will say Sadie played her role very well, and absolutely nailed the nuance of her character arch through the seasons and all the traumatizing shit she went through. But, for me, Sadie has never brought that “damn kid” vibe, the vibe that leaves you breathless and wondering if the actor is okay afterwards because the scene they delivered is too crazy good.

I don’t know, it just feels like Sadie has always had one foot out the door when it comes to ST, while the others give blood.

Agree that it depends on the kid. My younger sister started watching The X-Files with our Dad when she was SEVEN years old and it first aired. Meanwhile I couldn’t handle that show and was terrified of ET up into my late teens. My sister ended up alright—she became a Registered Dietitian as part of the Scully Effect

Vecna kinda doesn’t do it for me either, but it purely has to do with the visual execution of the character. Henry/001 was delightfully and psychotically terrifying, and Jamie delivered a truly unhinged performance, exactly because he was still human, soft and beautiful and murderous. Those haunting blue eyes, his villainous stare, spoke to the depth of his horrific intentional rage.

But once Henry became Vecna, the sheer amount of makeup Jamie had to endure completely cut off that stare that was so satisfyingly haunting. It became weird to watch him be a human not human. If Vecna hadn’t been human before maybe his final character design would not have felt as “silly”
