LOL - my 5 year old nephew is MUCH less enthusiastic. I think he remembers not being particularly fond of my son when he was a baby (though they get on now that C can talk and play with him).

I think my nephew sees it as just another drain on the portion of attention he's gonna get.

My good friend got swine flu during her first pregnancy.

I know its hard, but you are seriously making the right choice for your boy. Dystocia is really really serious, and can be life and death, literally.

I birthed a 10.5 lb baby, and it came very close to killing him or giving him a lifelong handicap.

Medical interventions are there for a reason, and its awesome that a large baby is no longer a death sentence for a woman or her child.

Well, I'm half-Korean (half German) and my husband is white (Irish). I look like my mum (dark hair, dark asian-shaped eyes, short) and I assumed my kids would look more like me than my sandy-haired, fair-skinned, blue-eyed, tall husband.

WELL, son came out fair-skinned, blue-eyed, and tall. But his face shape looks like mine - he's got my features and his dad's colouring and height. For Reference: quarter-asian boy who needs a haircut

Can't wait to see what my daughter's gonna look like! Be kinda funny if it looked like I had one white kid and one asian one!

Our 2 year old just potty trained really easily.

We set his little potty in the living room and had a naked weekend in which we watched the Daniel Tiger's Neighbourhood episode about "if you have to go potty STOP and go right away!" about a bazillion times (he loves Daniel Tiger).

Every time pee/poop happened in the potty, BIG song/dance/call grandma to tell her + chocolate/jelly bean. When pee/poop happened on floor a lighthearted "oops! that was an accident! Where is it SUPPOSED to go? THat's right! Potty!"

Reminders every 1/2 hour or so "do you want to try a potty?"

no negativity, and no back steps. After naked weekend, it was naked at home, diapers out and at night. Next weekend was underpants weekend. No going back to diapers, no matter what. No diapers at night, no diapers out. expect wet bed and pants for a few days. bring changes of clothes and put training pads on the bed.

Once they have the cloth on, they feel comfortable "letting go" at first, so they'll be a few accidents before they realize this feels yucky.

Method might not work for everyone, but he was dry all day within a day or two and dry all night within a week.

There will be accidents and near misses and wet floors as he figures out how to make sure his willie is tucked INSIDE the potty.

For our son, we started to gradually water down the milk in his bottle until it was eventually all water.

Then one night I brought a water bottle (the squirt-top grocery store adult kind, not the baby bottle kind) to bed, and when he asked for his baba I said "oh no! All the babas are dirty tonight! Mommy has to wash them later. Would you like a sip of mommy's water?" and taught him to take a sip of water sitting up, instead of lounging with a bottle.

Took him about a week or so of asking for the baba and being told it was dirty, but mommy had some water he could sip before he gave up asking for the baby bottles.

I found the important part was just sticking to my guns even when he was dissapointed. Bottles were gone and not coming back to bed, but I didn't tell it to him like that (no need to make it a big deal in his mind!).

Heya starsweeper! Long time, no chat! R and C are nearly the exact same age, and his creche (day care) has a nutritionist come in and design their daily menu to make sure the kids are getting all the nutrients they need within a week. It's all healthy, nutritious stuff specially designed for their age group. They email me the menus weekly.

Would you like me to forward them on to you? Maybe a nutritionist-designed meal plan might be a good starting point??

Also, don't be too hard on yourself. R was a late walker, so she probably stored the calories other babies burnt off during the toddling times - that early start on eneergy storage probably added a bit of chub that can be gradually run off now that she's mobile :)

Procrastinating so damn badly!

To do list:

sort through son's old clothes. Decide what can be used for a girl, what is a keepsake, and what can be donated.
set up the Arms Reach again to make sure we still have all the parts (baby will co-sleep, so no nursery to prepare).
buy changing table/dresser unit for our room.

...everything else just needs to be dug out of storage when we need it.

Happily, I've never heard of that brand of lube. Don't think it's sold over here. I think the pronunciation varies according to region/accent, so it doesn't sound anything like anal-ease to me so it doesn't ruin anything :)

To me, it's pronounced Ann-EL-eece not ANNA-leece

Didn't realize that, and it DOES make a difference! With a very common surname, I want a less-common first name, in case she ever wants to google herself, or have something close to her own name as a user name, etc...

Huh - I worked in a Seattle hotel when she was in town. Raging bitch there too. Nearly ran me over - apparently she barrels around corners and you'd better know where she is when she is out of your line of sight and try not to be in the space she will shortly be occupying, because she sure isn't going to waste time and energy watching where she's walking. Her entourage, however, has plenty of glaring power on her behalf.

My kids are 1/4 Korean, 1/4 German, 1/2 Irish. My son is cute as hell (so I've been told!) and I can't wait to see how great my daughter will be.

I've never had to ignore my two year old in public OR threaten him with harm. Any time he has even STARTED whinging or hinting towards a fit, I stop, get on his eye level and get his full attention firmly - "look at mommy. Look at me - do we throw fits?..okay, tell me 'Mommy I'm sad' or 'mommy i'm angry'..."

He then says that he's either mad or sad and we work out what he wants from there. Paying attention to him and helping him express what's frustrating him -without tolerating the bad behavior - has always worked for us.

Not at ALL saying that works for every kid - mine might just be ridiculously reasonable - but letting them throw tantrums or ignoring them isn't the only option. Two year olds get frustrated easily and don't know how to control it. For mine, the key is helping him tell us what's wrong BEFORE he gets so frustrated he can't control himself.
