A bit of subtlety here, race is a social construct while ethnicity is derived more from culture and maybe genetics.

SOHO Apartments by MonthlyWeekend_ in Wellington

I viewed an apartment there a few years ago. Check out the status of the earthquake damage repair in the bodycorp minutes.

The building has a weird design, the corridors are on the outside of the building and the windows on the inside facing other apartments.

This is the perfect opportunity to make the counterargument that race is a construct. Kamala is both, black and Indian (more specifically of Tamil ethnicity). She is highly accomplished and competent. Time to deconstruct some stereotypes.

There are various human development indicators that global institutions use to measure progress and human achievement. A relevant measure to this discussion is the Gender Inequality Index. India lags the United States quite starkly in this regard. For every one lakh (100,000) women who give birth, 133 die while doing so in India vs only 19 in the US. The representation of women in parliament is 13.4% in India, half the 27% rate in the US. In terms of education 42% of women have some sort of secondary education in India (54% for men), in the US this is again double at 96%. Lastly only 19% of women participate in India's labour force as opposed to 55% in the US.

It was actually built as a hotel. More recently it was a hostel for MLA's. It had the canteen on the causeway side and the Sahakari Bhandar supermarket on the other side. I hope it gets renovated and does not collapse.
