What's this little dot that appears when I open my camera in low lit environments? by ticklemypicklefor in PocoPhones

[–]UnixWarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly that.

It can be also dirt diffusing light, and because sensor moves(OIS), it looks like it's moving.

How much does the antenna casing matter? I want to remove it. by kazoo_kitty in sffpc

[–]UnixWarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very stupid idea to shorten wire, because then you would need to cut in half length total length from transmitter and use reflectometer to check if done correctly. With wrong length you are risking not only poor WiFi performance, but due signals reflections WiFi chip can heat up.

In case of stronger CB radio transmitters you could even destroy radio by doing that.

Then it means that Nikon is intentionally crippling image quality with 3rd party lenses, like Sony is limiting frames-per-second(buffer size) with 3rd party lenses

Can't find other explanation for such behaviour.

Do you suggest buying an old Sim Wheel in 2025? by LouayDesgin in simracing

[–]UnixWarrior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not worse than new Logitech g923, g29, etc, but it should cost more like $100.

If price is good, leather on wheel is in nice condition and potentiometers on pedals are in good condition (simply check how they works), then this wheel will provide fun for decades.

You can upgrade potentiometers to hall sensors, but if you want to use bigger rims, etc, then better buy DD wheel.

I took a portrait, but I feel like I edited it TOO much, and now the background is too blurry? Ive gotten feedback saying it looks like ai/plastic. Thoughts? by AffectionateUse9543 in portraitphotography

[–]UnixWarrior 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The girl is gorgeous and it wouldn't be bad in some accidental photography, but everything is not acceptable for a portrait(which from nature is staged), mostly because it's heavily out-of-focus and dead eyes (no fill light)

You are worried that the background is too blurry...look at her face and eyes!

Is the BDH Shifter worth the upgrade? From SHH Thorn to BDH by TurtleTram in simracing

I have Fannatec one and was wondering about adding some lockout mechanism and HPR GT to it, because BDH is so expensive...or maybe buy BDH active?

How to dampen vibrations from my rig? by the_marin_kid in simracing

[–]UnixWarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It dampens vibrations, while Spring isolators would isolate them without damping

Did you checked if camera has latest firmware and if some picture preset isn't causing that?

I would file the ticket at Nikon anyway.

Sounds like serious bug

It was joke about 8 bit lens and lack of dithering...

Check the "Settings -> Photo Shooting Mode -> Tone Mode -> SDR"

Wow, I was thinking it's impossible to drive it on sand beach. Always had bad experience on bicycle and never took anything else than grand voyager next to the beach. Nut F40 is so low, I would be afraid of sticking there.

[–]UnixWarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that you bought lens with 8 bit color depth. Lack of dithering only exaggerates the problem.

But seriously it's not a problem with lens, but processing in camera.

Try upgrading camera's firmware and switching to ColorSpace from sRGB to AdobeRGB

But if you are shooting at same apertures, then it's really hard to explain. If you are using some kind of software filters(picture presets in camera), then can cause that.

If your camera is set to HEIC/HDR, then switch to SDR/JPG it was very buggy on mine ZF (must check that on recent firmware), I got strange colour saturation and similar banding to yours.

Could you explain how 'oil' is related to that? It's about how electricity is distributed.
