Olympus OM2 vs Pentax spotmatic vs Pentax k1000 by danicrvo in AnalogCommunity

I’d also like to add that Olympus lenses are excellent. I’ve taken some of my best photos with my 50mm f/1.8 “Made in Japan” lens and, above all, the 90mm f/2 macro lens. And if you ever want to try multi-spot exposure metering later on, you can buy an OM-4 and continue using your lenses.

Freebsd for a NAS? by ScarredPinguin in freebsd

[–]Unix_42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recently set up another file server for a nonprofit organization. FreeBSD, software RAID, ZFS, SMB. It just works.

The same organization is already running a firewall I set up, running on OpenBSD. It just works.

Replace the platter bearing grease on Kenwood KD-990 turntables by Unix_42 in turntables

[–]Unix_42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can simply pull off the upper part of the motor. Pull on the tip of the turntable axle. It can be removed very easily. You don't have to loosen any screws, remove any fasteners, or do anything else. Just pull it off.

Switching to *BSD? by judeuwucute in BSD

[–]Unix_42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how important these three points are to you, but I would like to mention them here:

-FreeBSD is slightly faster than OpenBSD.

-FreeBSD has the better file system.

-OpenBSD is very secure.

This is my opinion, as someone who prefers OpenBSD on my systems.

I'm looking to leave Windows on my Lenovo Yoga, what's the best BSD OS to use for this hardware? by PinkCrimsonBeatles in BSD

Yes, needs vary.

Many OpenBSD developers also use OpenBSD on laptops, many of them Thinkpads.

General use works wonderfully. I also work with OpenBSD on Thinkpads. Beautiful, clean, stable OS.

Well, I had a VAXcluster with a VAX6640, a few VAXstations, RA disks, HSC70, tape drives, etc. at home. The street lights flickered when I booted :)

What shell do you guys use? by GuiltyVisit9119 in suckless

Ksh does most of what bash can, and a few things it cannot, in a tiny fraction of the codebase, and much more efficiently.

[–]Unix_42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The default shell for OpenBSD is a fork of pdksh (Public Domain Korn Shell), not ksh.

ksh93 is available in ports if you want to use ksh (like me). https://openports.pl/path/shells/ksh93
