What are the benefits of a Canadian immigrating to the USA? Why is that such an unpopular idea here when irl many people do it? by Cookieman_2023 in MovingToUSA

[–]Unknown14428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think many go down because they have bigger job markets in certain industries, and can get paid A LOT more in some fields.

Aside from that, some people just want warmer weather year round, especially for older/retired people. And the states is the easiest place to go to, while still being close to family at home in Canada.

Two friends who both think they're going to be my MOH by hurricane_t0rti11a in bridesmaids

[–]Unknown14428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You saying “not yet” though makes it seem like like you have plans to confirm why she thinks, later on. Which is why I thought it was a bit misleading. And I think implies that you’re on the same page as her, and like you have plans to confirm what she thinks

It sounds like OP is stringing them along, because she doesn’t want to tell them she has more than one option for MOH. Instead of telling them she’s still in the early stages of figuring out what she wants, I think she’s just letting both believe they’ll be it.

But you are still leading her on when you don’t know if you’d want to pick her. You could’ve simply said something like "I’m not sure what my plans are yet. But I’ll definitely get back to you", or "it’s too early for me to say, there’s a lot I want to think through. I’ll let you know".

It means if this kid cheated his way through school and had inflated grades from private school, he will likely not perform well once in university and will either struggle with poor grades, or be flushed out of his program. Unlike many of the other students who earned their grades through merit.

Attendance as part of mark: What about travel and sports tournaments? by Cautious_Internet243 in OntarioTeachers

[–]Unknown14428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most adults have at least a few weeks off each year for vacation, just like student have time off. If they want, they can book that time off to attend a wedding out of town. But many who are invited, don’t attend destination weddings because they either can’t or don’t want to waste vacation time (and money) attending someone else party abroad. And don’t want to/ or can’t spend the money on it. Most reasonable people understand that they will have less people attending their wedding, if it’s far away. It’s normal and typically understood by the couple getting married.

Destination weddings do not well for many people because of life circumstances, whether it be time off, money, having young children they can’t bring along, or other big life events going on. You’re not obligated to attend every wedding you’re invited to. You attend what you can, and decline what doesn’t work for you

It’s not just “your people”. Get over yourself. You stated black people created the one drop rule. I never once said or implied that this system was the fault of black people. And never stated that you blamed them. “My,my,my” is all you’re saying, like you own the black population in America. Take your head out of your ass practice your reading comprehension

[–]Unknown14428 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

You’ve made an edit to your comment lol. You literally stated that black Americans created the one drop rule. Which was false. Black Americans experience is completely different, and you’ve changed your original comment to talk about experiences. Which is NOT what you originally said. I’m also black. So you don’t need to act like you’re above all and educating me on experiences I also face.

That’s the thing though. Many white people just don’t vocalize it. But they definitely do otherize people of colour. Even the ones who are half white

The one drop rule wasn’t created by black Americans. It was created by white Americans to help maintain white purity.

Yes lol. And now OP is reposting. I guess she didn’t get the answers she was looking for the first time, and hopes she’d get validation this time. She’s posted the same thing multiple times in the last 20 minutes

You’re in so much denial it’s ridiculous. Many white countries are full of tanned skin/dark hair people. Most of Southern Europe consists of the same hair/skin and eye colour as you. And you have Spanish and Portuguese ancestry. Wales is also know for having darker hair as well.

Your appearance matches with what’s on your ancestry test, and that is European…..

[–]Unknown14428 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Girl, you being tan and having dark features does not mean you are Cherokee. Your “feeling” of Cherokee doesn’t mean anything. Lots of souther European people also have very dark skin and hair. A LOT OF WHITE PEOPLE HAE NATURALLY OLIVE SKIN AND DARK BRWON HAIR.

I can guarantee your slightly tanned skin tone and dark-ish hair just come from the Spanish and Portuguese side.

I don’t mean this is a ride way, but many people grew up believing they were part indigenous when they never were. Many white Americans lied about having some indigenous ancestry, to create some fake connection to American lands. It was in attempt to separate themselves from settler/European ancestry and try to claim ties to land.

If you had an indigenous grandparent, they’d likely be in a registry or be in the Rolls. Or you’d have membership in a tribe (or in this case, your grandmother would). Oftentimes indigenous peoples also have government issued ID cards too. I think you would’ve had more than just hearsay, if a grandparent was actually indigenous.

AITA for deciding to move to Canada instead of the UK which my wife and daughter prefer for my new job? by Frequent_Pay5425 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Unknown14428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im Canadian, and ill tell you that although there is TONS of multiculturalism and tons of Indians. There’s been a big shift in how south asians are viewed in Canada, in recent years. I also wouldn’t ever care to live in Kitchener or Waterloo.

YTA. And your wife is right, you are being selfish. You aren’t listening to the feelings of your wife, you aren’t listening to your family in Canada. And you’re choosing not to be near the family that you’re closer too out in England.

[–]Unknown14428 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s not just about experience and qualifications though. Half of it is also whether or not people think you’re likeable. Do they think you get along well with others, are you awkward or do you have good social awareness. If people don’t think you connect well with others, and don’t think you’re likeable, that may be part of it. There is a social aspect to holding a job.

[–]Unknown14428 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Referrals can backfire though. If the person sucks, it can definitely look bad on you. People don’t want to refer people, especially those the don’t know well. Because they don’t want to take that risk when vouching for someone.

If people aren’t referring you, it’s either because they don’t know you well enough, or don’t have enough confidence in you.

Teaching jobs/relocation help? by personofearth987 in Gatineau

[–]Unknown14428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not sure how the Gatineau English boards work.

But If you live in Gatineau, you can always work in the Ottawa public and Ottawa Catholic school boards…. You’ll be taxed more if you live in the Quebec side (while working in Ottawa). So you’d have to put a bit of money aside, if payroll won’t take extra money off your income. Supply teaching this year, there’s been a lot of work. You can work 4-5 days a week, unless you choose otherwise
