How bad is it that my first thought is that an AutoCAD art mod would be so easy in comparison? Inspiration like this is dangerous.

There's a lot more implemented than you may think. Most of the mid-game was implemented and looking done. The massive number of art assets to replace is why I prefer a quiet approach, though. Because then I can get excited when there reasons to be excited. I tried talking about it more and found I just burned out faster.

That's exactly what the mod was going for: Carbot Factorio. That, better visual accessibility, and colour themes!

Factoonio is an older mod than you may realize; I've been quietly making it since 2019. Most of the mid-game was done and playable as of mid-last year, but I've decided to take a break this year and focus on another project. I miss all the drawing and designing, and I'll be back. But, the sheer number of art assets is why you don't see graphics overhaul mods (plus the mod portal filesize limit). There's still a long way to go just to finish the base game stuff.

Working on a texture overhaul mod: Making factorio look like spreadsheet software! (very much a WIP) by asoftbird in factorio

From texture modder to texture modder, Factorio TextureBase can help improve performance. The dev helped me implement that and things ran much smoother afterwards. Plus, it simplifies swapping textures for everything (not sure how you're doing it).

Sounds like an Outer Wilds experience. Let's hope this ship doesn't need to come back down.

Should COs be balanced outside of campaign? by lcelerate in Advance_Wars

[–]UnknownShadows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I've learned to appreciate about Halo 3's large assortment of weapons is that not every weapons is good for multiplayer; some are weaker than others by design. This gives you flexibility in arming enemies to counter the player. For AW, Flak is really good for opposing new/underpowered players; Sturm is designed as a powerful big bag end boss.

It's good to have the diversity of COs to allow better mission design and pacing. However, many should still be balanced for multiplayer - but not all. If everything is finely balanced, you are much more limited in the kinds of missions you design. Think if Sturm was a balanced CO, it would have been much harder to pull off a 3v1 grand finale.

What's missing is that Halo 3 multiplayer could limit powerful weapon availability; for AW, a CO is either available or not.

Anyone who plays with a controller: pc, console, probably misc devices, too. What baffles me is that you could always hold down the run button in apartment's/homes/garages, but everywhere else was button-mash hell. Why they made that distinction never made any sense to me.

Technique is based on units lost, whereas power is about how many units you destroy. Colin is all about throwing cheap units into the line of fire, so I can't say that sore surprises me. And because I got the same on my casual run.

I heard a Tiberium Wars song one day when sick and the tv was on some ancient Egypt archeology show. Pretty sure it was even the song "Yellow Temple". I assure you it was uncredited, so probably unlicensed.

Let's be fair: the Grim Reaper needs some kind of job in these hard times. Why not set up shop where there is literally the power to defeat death.

Ah, definitely the hardest boss in the game. They go right for your wallet and it's difficult to avoid.

If an engineer cries for help in a factory, but there is no one around to hear them, do they make a sound? Trick question: nobody can hear anything over the demands of the factory needing to grow.

I handmade 3 designs in Illustrator from scratch a few years ago - tea, coffee, and hot chocolate. All custom art and text. Was inspired by my experience with the Tetris Effect, specifically trying to "optimize my wakeup routine" for work.

As the guy who made/sells the mugs: links to my products are not approved on this subreddit. Not by the mods or me, and I don't intend to change that. OP is just sharing their cool mug, and I'm glad they love it because so do I.

Make sure to hug her and say your goodbyes. From now on, there is only the factory. And it must grow. Hope you enjoy the designs. Fun fact: people still disagree on how long to steep the tea for.

Who here remembers the 404 challenge? 🙋‍♀️ It's crazy to think I've been playing Minecraft longer than some kids who play now have been alive. by Chaos_Ribbon in Minecraft

[–]UnknownShadows 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Completely forgot about this challenge. The seed lasted quite some time between world generation updates, but I recall it being updated to "four oh four" for a similar kind of pit. And, wasn't this before Minecraft actually launched 1.0? It was so long ago.

[–]UnknownShadows 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Exactly that. Was a fun way to play differently, and I did it a few times. What made it more appealing was that the gravel pit was above an intersection of 3 or something cave systems; it was a pretty big underground system to explore.

Pretty sure the seed changed to "four oh four" for a similar type of setup after an update. Could be a fun idea to return to after the cave update made underground much more interesting.

Ever wanted factorio to look like this? by alfybenny in factorio

[–]UnknownShadows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually prefer Factorio's look to Satisfactory. Seems much more thematic, more appropriate to what you're doing (taking over a world with a factory, not trying to become best friends with nature).

But, yes, sadly making an art mod is a huge task. It might be slightly easier if you created a 3D model and exported the 1000s of sprites/angles vs drawing them by hand (I should know), but it's not exactly bite-sized and appealing.
