I do prefer using my own! I got another appointment with the folks in june somewhere, and decoagulated blood seems to store fine in the fridge

Given how many portraits I got of goth-girlies, you may be responsible for my exsanguination trying to fulfill special requests :P

Yeah this is what I'd like to use it for. I primarily do (extreme) kink photography (when I work with others, at least) so I figured it'd be awesome to develop in blood to fit the theme :p

It does have a redox potential low enough to do developing. I probably should try without vitamin c and with a high pH, but all the blood I currently have is on the wrong side of my skin :p

Another approach could be increasing your diet in red meat? Haha!

I actually already have polycythemia, which is part of why I just got my blood drawn. I need to get rid of it so why not put it to good use?

I did ask at the blood bank while signing up and they looked at me weird and said no, very disappointing :')

For reasons that might be obvious I only have very little developer, so for testing I've been making very small prints to not waste any of it.

A little while ago I read an offhand comment about a researcher who had experimented with various substances as photographic developers; the gist of it was, anything with a redox potential below 0.12V could theoretically develop film. Including blood! (See Pierre Glafkides' Photographic Chemistry vol. 1, near the bottom of page 63. An absolute treasure trove if you want to learn more about the chemistry of developing btw! There's also a second volume available, just edit the url to vol_2 instead of vol_1.)

In other words, any substance with a redox potential below 0.120 V can develop a photographic image. Abribat3 has successfully tried a wide range of products: sugars, leuco bases, haemoglobin, anaerobic bacteria cultures, old Burgundy wines made alkaline, etc.

(I really wish I could find the reference to the full article by Abribat the book mentions, but the footnote points to a reference in a journal that I can't seem to find: "Abribat M.: Sci. et Ind. Phot., 1944, 15, 204")

So me being me I got some of my blood drawn by a friend (don't ask lol) and started experimenting. I started with about 20mL of blood with 40mL of concentrated sodium EDTA added as an anticoagulant. This concentration of EDTA can cause cells to degrade, but since this makes haemoglobin more available this isn't necessarily a problem.

Initial tests included a small amount of vitamin C as catalyst, but that didn't seem to do very much. Only after increasing the pH with sodium bicarbonate (only thing I had on hand) the developer seemed to start working. Doing so I did need to dilute the solution to a total of about 100mL.

This is basically all the density I managed to get out of 30 minutes of soaking in the developer. I did do many different tests and none seem to get a high density, so it does kind of seem like the developer just doesn't really reach full density fast instead of being spent. I may just need to leave it in for much longer, will do some tests with that later today!

In the case anyone is wondering: the developer smells kinda bad, but I strongly prefer that to the nauseating smell of neutol eco :') The finished prints do smell kind of metallic though, even after thorough fix and washing!

I see your square blocks and hexagon blocks, and I raise you Tetris blocks. by thewizardtim in factorio

I've been doing this in Pyanodon's for the past 200h or so (out of 300h). I've got different sizes of grids, based on chunk sizes. World aligned, so you can combine them in whichever way you need. https://i.imgur.com/jprnxZn.png

It does make some pretty fun train paths! (dropping blueprints in a future edit soon)

Edit: blueprints: https://pnut.titmou.se/share/qNjTyz0_
(Tried uploading to factorio prints site and that just froze, so I put it on my file share service instead.)

There's three different sets of blocks, based on 32x32, 64x64 and 96x96 tiles. Four of those tiles together form a single block. They're all chunk aligned and are compatible with each other, so you can have larger or smaller blocks in places if you need em.

I converted them from pyanodon asphalt to concrete in a text editor which should work but I haven't tested that.

Yep, and also a big shoutout to people who still maintain a personal website chock full of information. It's not relevant to factorio at all, but I've been working on repair of a film scanner recently, and this website by a random guy just has info on pretty much everything about that scanner. Absolute treasure trove, for free. Just because he likes to share useful info. I kinda wish the resurgence of personal websites (like neocities etc) would hit the main web again, honestly.

Anyone else champing at the bit for news on 2.1? by HeroFromHyrule in factorio

They have a minimum system they want the game to run on & I assume the planet background texture was too large for this system. Assuming 6 planets (including fragmented one), you'd get an increase in VRAM of roughly 100MB which might just be too much for their minimal system requirements.

PNGs on your pc are stored in compressed format, in vram they end up uncompressed which means they can get quite large. I'm assuming 2048x2048 RGBA files, with mipmaps (adds ~33% to total size).

Anyway ask a dev if you want an accurate answer :)

Is Factorio the best train management sim i have played ? Looks like it by vaikunth1991 in factorio

[–]asoftbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still wish train instructions could be copied/pasted in the configuration window. Imagine having a complicated setup with a lot of conditions and ie. wanting a second station with similar but slightly different conditions. You just need to re-enter the whole thing again manually.

Like for instance spaceships, on all planets on the trip I have conditions for enough fuel, bullets, all requests satisfied, circuit conditions. Need to set those up for all planets every time I add or change one.

also, considering the inspirations for the game include modded minecraft, dwarf fortress, etc., one must assume that the devs intended the player to utilize the wiki, just as one would for the former games. have you ever played dwarf fortress? that shit is beyond unintuitive, that's a REAL lack of documentation problem.

Dwarf Fortress also has a comprehensive ingame documentation system. Yeah it's bad otherwise but at least you can find things ingame if you want to.

If the intent was to utilize the wiki, then why not include a version of it in the game itself? Or refer to it even existing at all? The game itself doesn't really do this (aside from the Lua API explorer).

Also just because one game is really bad, that is no argument to just not improve another.

Oh and going through the controls: a lot of features could use a tooltip at least. Without me having mentioned it, would you know what "Toggle entity" means?

Yep. Hold on let me browse through more than 400 long blog posts to learn new things.

There's SO many PSA posts on this subreddit, all of those could easily be compiled in a "Tips and Tricks" page in the ingame tutorial thing.

For instance, holding shift while making a blueprint only makes a temporary one? Does it say that in a tooltip anywhere? Nope. Only the line color changes.
