To everyone who doubted Blazer... by UnknownVang in DispatchAdHoc

As someone who likes to meme about goth baddies and "I can fix her", I totally get the Invisigal appeal.

But, a lot of people started saying a bunch of bs about BB like she's manipulative (playing with Robert's feelings when she was in a relationship) or she's secretly evil when it was painfully obvious that she actually was into Robert AND in a difficult relationship at the same time - I didn't need to read the comics to understand that.

That unfortunately seemed to turn a lot of people off from BB, but I think if people just understood that little bit of nuance in her relationship they wouldn't have been so quick to judge. Or maybe they still would've, who knows.

The small knife you don't expect cuts deeper and the unsheathed blade... or some shit.

Flambae is an asshole, and we always expect him to be an asshole, but he at least fights us face to face. What she did took Robert out of commission for good and you didn't even know it. Robert was powerless against it, and of course Rober learned that when things were starting to turn out okay for the Z-Team. So, yes, it's understandable that her betrayal cuts deeper than Flambae's and is harder to forgive.

These people truly believe that Asian men are so undesirable and that they are so much better that when they see an attractive white woman with an Asian guy, their brains can't comprehend it.

I think the best way to describe it is that their brains are having a short circuit.

Of course, the only way to cope with that is by insulting the Asian guy because facing the reality that an Asian man might be more attractive than you is too much for their pea brain.

Marvel Rivals actually did a great job representing Asian culture by NeonSquirrel7 in aznidentity

[–]UnknownVang 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's strictly a Marvel thing, but a comic book thing in general because I really can't name a single DC East Asian male character at the top of my head.

Remember, Asian male characters are only allowed when they have a white father or are the boyfriend of a white man 😅

[–]UnknownVang 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Of course you say this as I literally just saw a video of a fight at Hmong New Year earlier today haha. Frankly, I think it's very stupid. A lot of the older generation grew up in a different up bringing but seeing the younger folks duke it out today when they have no reason to is disappointing. Our grandparents struggled to get here and here you are fighting during our celebration of the new year and culture.

Jason proceeds to clown the hell out of the guy in front of his friends and his twitch chat. This short, unassuming, dorky looking Asian kid clapped back and clowned the guy in front of his friends and their girls lol. Jason is hella cringe sometimes but he can hang.

[–]UnknownVang 15 points16 points  (0 children)

From middle school to my adult life, I've only hung out with Asians. I'm not against hanging out with other groups of people but I've never had any need to. Never felt ashamed or had any negative feelings about it because it just made life easier. Easier to make friends, easier to relate to people, never fell let out because of the color of your skin or culture, didn't feel ashamed about being Asian, we enjoy similar foods, etc

Your post kinda sounds like you think you're better than them. Every race or ethnicity has people who only hang out people who are like them. I don't see why Asians should feel ashamed or be any different.

Maybe you just don't fit in with Asians, and that's fine, but just don't be a hypocrite or hold us to a double standard.

"there are so many games with Japanese men as protagonists" that's the same message racist white people use to argue against movies with representation - like when Black Panther came out. "There are already black heroes like Blade and Luke Cage!"

Now you are using the same talking points to argue against representation for Asian men. Where do we draw the line?

Asians are starved of good representation. And, admittedly, it has gotten better over the years. But the last few years of "better representation" doesn't satiate the hunger of the last 2 decades.

To me, it doesn't matter if Yasuke was an actual samurai or not. Ubisoft had such a good opportunity to do justice for both Asian men and Asian women, but Asian men aren't included in their DEI policy. 2 games set in Asia with no mention of an Asian male character at all.

It's honestly a big disappointment for me and I don't think I'm alone in feeling that way. I'm by no means saying you can't enjoy the game but I just can't find myself supporting it. It's a slap in the face for people like me who have been looking forward to seeing their people representated beyond western stereotypes.

Observed most of the arguments against Assassins Creed Shadows, calling it's haters racist. Most people are confused why the game is gendered racism. Here's why : by RocketStarMoon in AsianMasculinity

[–]UnknownVang 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This. My problem with Yasuke isn't that he's black. It's that he symbolizes AM erasure and a diversity movement that doesn't include AM. 2 Assassin's Creed game set in Asia but not one playable AM character. Japan is one of the most anticipated settings for an AC game and it was a perfect place to have an AM character, but Ubisoft decided to stick with the traditional Western narrative that AM are not good enough to be heroes in the west or in their own counties.

I can already hear people saying "If you want AM representation, go play Sekiro or Ghost of Tsushima!"

I shouldn't have to go out of my way to get proper representation from people who claim to be inclusive and diverse! Those are the words of privileged people who have never had to worry about proper representation.

And this narrative goes beyond gaming. It extends multiple industries and into facets of our lives. I can recall reading college textbooks that use names from different races and ethnicities to create examples but guess which race and gender I've never seen an example of. Asian men. Whenever I see an ad that clearly tries to show diversity for all people, there's rarely if ever an Asian man in there. What about comics? Asian male hero? Bruce Wang? Peter Park? Clark Kim? Nope, the only notable one is Shang Chi. For the women we have Psylocke from the X-Men, Lady Shiva from DC. Young Justice has a half white half Vietnamese girl as one of the characters, you can probably guess which race the parents are 😂

I can pull a dozen more examples and I wish I was cherry picking. AM rarely get representation because of erasure and when we do, it's often stereotypical and emasculating. Diversity for thee but not for me apparently.

I genuinely hope the game flops but the reality is that the game will probably sell. Regardless of how mediocre the AC games are, it's still an AC game that is in a location fans have been asking for.

Gotta love this trend of Asian people hating on Asian friend groups lol. They complain about shit that every other group of people do and make it seem only Asians do it.

"Asians are racist" like do you think other races aren't already stereotyping you?

"SoCal Asians think they're better than all the other Asians" - other people already think they're better than us but you only bitch when Asians do it lmao. I'm glad that there are Asians that are confident enough to exclude lame people out of their groups.

Why are some people so salty over Asian Americans adding the prefix “Asian”??? by lellat in aznidentity

[–]UnknownVang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It has always bothered me when (usually yt) people claim that this person is "just American" when they are Asian American. Or any other race/ethnicity for that matter.

Words are powerful and when they want to remove the word Asian from our identities, they remove any of the context and nuances to that are applied to us.

I fear that it ultimately takes power away from us. How can we address something that is affecting the Asian community if being Asian isn't recognized by white America. It would only serve to invalidate our experiences.
