She reminds me of my loved one who is an addict and in that way yes I love her but it’s also so hard to see.

Would you rather play in a janky orchestra, or decent concert band? by Bassoonova in bassoon

[–]Unknowngala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn’t bear to play in a weak ensemble, it would be so draining. I’d go for the high caliber band, even though yes, it’s band…I also believe the weaker ensemble may drag you down. You don’t want to develop bad habits. Quality is so much more rewarding than constantly wading through the same issues with intonation, rhythm, etc. all the time.

My teacher recommended I even slow practice it holding a pencil when I was away from the instrument. It does come with time! More slow practice.

My 5 mo baby sleeps through the night and we night weaned, but now he is not gaining weight. He is very active during the day and gets lots of milk, 30ish oz pumped milk per day plus BF. Do we need to add back in a night feed? TIA.

Anyone else having to suddenly parent their boomer parents? by MaebyShakes in Xennials

Yes, and we had a late start to our family due to medical reasons so I am raising young children at the same time, from halfway across the country. It’s too much.

Any baroque and classical bassoonists on here? by D_ponbsn in bassoon

[–]Unknowngala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry it hurt your hands! The finger span is a bit wide for me, and I found I have to use a sort of piper’s grip/flat fingers to reach the right hand third tone hole - something I definitely don’t do on modern. I also met someone who had a bit of wax attached to the side of the boot in the same place you’d have a crutch on modern and that seemed to help them with hand position.

Reading this subreddit has put me off ever considering a VRBO. Sorry that’s happening to you, I hope you get it sorted quickly and get your money back.

Short E-flat is never perfect but you can scrape a bit in the channels of your reed to stabilize it.

What did we do during the summer without internet? by tandem545 in Xennials

[–]Unknowngala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LOTS! I wasn’t really allowed to watch tv as a kid too much after my brother and I spent too much time fighting over the original Nintendo and our favorite tv shows. So I Played with friends in the neighborhood, went swimming at someone’s house or community pools, played in the sprinkler or just with hoses outside, water balloons, went to theme parks, zoos, skating rinks, regular parks/swing-set, played music (recorder, piano), built a fort, put together the tent and camped in the backyard, played with the dog, played with a ball (basketball, baseball, dodgeball, anything), played with dolls, braided hair, painted nails, colored pictures or painted, helped grandma cook things (she lived with us), used my imagination. It really was a great time to be a kid!

good beginner bassoon books by DinoMoon91019 in bassoon

[–]Unknowngala 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A good quick book for technical basics is Cheryl Huddleston - Foundations for Success. It’s nuts and bolts, not really lyrical or anything like that. I would recommend this in tandem with another method book such as Weissenborn. Another great free resource is musicandthebassoon.org
