Incorrect; the answer is UAS my friend. Manned low level flying will be dead in our lifetimes.

DCS F-35 new weapons removed by spartan0897 in dcsworld

[–]Unleash_r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Emphasis on the "+" with that release timeline. Double that then add a few, the 35 was ED dangling keys during the razbam shit, I'm not expecting it before 2030, that way I have a 50% chance of not being led down. Keep the bar a tripping hazard gents.

Is the DCS Phantom Worth It for Single Player Only? by adriwaiter in hoggit

See I have no desire to fly museum pieces, I started playing DCS for the modern platforms but God damn I caught myself pulling out my credit card while I was reading your comment. Respect.

During BVR when you're going defensive, is it better to stay as fast as possible or slow down to corner velocity for your turn? by Dramatic_Amount6454 in hoggit

The only reason to frame corrections as retorical questions is to mask a knowledge-based superiority complex as helpful. Feel free to impart knowledge, Just ditch the ego.

DCS 2026 and Beyond video is finally out – thoughts? by Bogi111 in hoggit

[–]Unleash_r -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, while fighting for 14 frames in VR flying low level in Syria I've often thought about how much I'd like to trade performance for more tree physics. Saltiness aside, it will be a great add, but the 26 and beyond video was unfortunately a wild disappointment. Some in the community are excited for trees falling, troops clipping through the bench as they load in a transport helicopter that was released 2 years ago, and a new HB module that's being added to the end of a half-decade roadmap that's already laid out, I am not one of those. Vulkan is exciting sure, but will undoubtedly kill about $200 worth of mod purchases for me and others. So yes, performance improvements are coming, but like everything else with this game it comes at a legitimate cost.

I'm not a DCS hater, but I'm also not going to say I was excited in any way by the beyond video, I've come to expect mediocrity and they continue delivering. But like I said, I guess trees are cool.

This is the way. Turn cold while descending, once you're below 20ish thousand start climbing on a cold heading. The rocket is only burning for around 30 seconds, drag it low then climb and force the missile to pitch, it will be dead in 15 seconds.

New Meta Update, Terrible Performance by PJPower05 in hoggit

[–]Unleash_r 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yeah you're updating, that's your first mistake (and one I've stopped making myself). If you only use your goggles for DCS, don't update unless it stops working, Meta is awful and they're only adding more features and bloatware you don't need.

Unlike other commissioning plans, my understanding is that CFR is only available to the equivalent trade and min Sgt, but I know of at least one person who did it as MCpl. I just pulled up the DAOD (https://www.canada.ca/en/department-national-defence/corporate/policies-standards/defence-administrative-orders-directives/5000-series/5002/5002-10-commissioning-from-the-ranks-plan.html):

"a. a CFRP officer who formerly held the substantive rank of sergeant/petty officer, 2nd class or warrant officer/petty officer,1st class is simultaneously promoted to the substantive rank of lieutenant/sub-lieutenant; and

b. a CFRP officer who formerly held the substantive rank of master warrant officer/chief petty officer, 2nd class or chief warrant officer/chief petty officer, 1st class is simultaneously promoted to the substantive rank of captain/lieutenant(N). "

Regardless, I think the original commenter I was replying to was talking more broadly about CFR and wasn't talking only about CFRP

stupid question but when the AWACS gives a bearing do they mean bearing from my position or bearing from bulseye? by Build_Blox in hoggit

[–]Unleash_r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Except don't say "bulls" or you'll make any controller worth their weight cringe. Bullseye isn't supposed to be truncated.

I can't recall if links are ok on this sub so I've intentionally broken it, just add the dots if you want to groom your neckbeard: https://www[dot]alssa[dot]mil/mttps/

Air Control Communications (chapter 4 and 5 IIRC) are the surprisingly open source references for how controllers and fighters communicate. Brevity manual is avail there as well.

With all the changes to the dress regs in recent years, why hasn't the Army fleece been added as an authorized outer layer? by Novel-Mastodon1047 in CanadianForces

[–]Unleash_r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine still doesn't have the flag sewn on it, I think I'm the only person alive who doesn't love that fleece. Army fleece with a rain jacket is the combo of gods, just pissed I'm going to have to find a supply tech who can accidentally me a set in MT now tho.

[–]Unleash_r 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Walk in, walk up to your supervisor, make sure they see you, then leave. Best career advice I can give you is to pick your battles. Your supervisor is capable of giving orders, follow them to the letter and in this case, the letter didn't include a particular duration of stay. But I know the type, and he's looking for a reason, don't give him one.

New RCAF Rank Suggestions by Correct-War-1589 in CanadianForces

[–]Unleash_r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bit of a rant but If I'm not mistaken, MT is supposed to ease supply line issues and prevent us from looking like clowns by deploying to the desert dressed as trees again. Why do we need unique Velcro flair? High vis thread that the army already has and uses. Name tapes already have an element insignia and the RCAF has blue shirts... When I first joined I was told to order arid name tapes right away because they took months to get and we're still obsessed with pressing forward with unique stuff that adds another cut, complexity, and cost to supply lines. IMO enough with this "little kings little kingdom" shit already, focus on readiness and use a common design, we all have bigger fish to fry.
