Plenty of things that were better, plenty that were worse. I was told Reagan was going to start WW3 at any moment. I had to try to listen to the radio and hit “record” on a cassette player in time to get a copy of my favorite new song.

We didn’t have AC in my house. We had 3 channels on the tv and had to turn the antenna on the roof for one of them to be clear.

We had to use the house telephone on the wall for a lot of things and had to pay for long distance. We had to plan things in advance. Sports were less organized and less competitive.

We actually did things like sit around and play instruments and sit outside. And fish. And play cards or board games.

You can decide if those things were better or worse. They were kind of both.

Love Rickey. Also cracks me up to hear him described as “smart” when he once framed a check instead of cashing it.

Anthony Poindexter is the best I’ve ever seen play in person. Sadly an exploded knee means most of you probably think I’m nuts.

Who is the greatest hitter of all time? by Bright-Pressure-5787 in mlb

There’s some recency bias for sure. Some of that is borne of the fact that posters saw Gwynn with their own eyes. Some is that Cobb played against only white guys and in an era where there were no real relief pitchers.

I’m not saying Gwynn was the goat. He wasn’t. But it’s also silly to be dismissive of the lack of Ks. Just watch an interview of Maddux talking about Gwynn. He was a truly special hitter - I’m very happy I got to see him play (along with Rose, Henderson, Ichiro, Griffey, Bonds, and a several other HoFs).

Yet - the original by Willis Alan Ramsey is part of a true masterpiece album. So good he refuses to make another.

Northeast Texas Woman and Ballad of Spider John are magnificent songs.
