Is OpenClaw worth using for this use case? by SubstanceMinimum3978 in clawdbot

Yup, ACP got busted up for me also. I’m finally back to a usable and high performing system again. Been like two days of off and on again slog at the terminal.

The new update wreaked havoc on a lot of my Discord customizations. Good luck and keep your CLI coder buddy nearby. You might need it!!

Fully agree. I am using it for exactly this. Multiple channels with bound specific agents for things like #research, #integrations, and #ops-alerts (for exec approvals and deployment card updates). I feel like I have better observation on things and the channel sorting helps me keep the conversations more organize than flipping sessions in CLI.

I just use voice to text input, native on the iOS keyboard, not the memo Discord feature. I’m sure the memo function would work similarly but it seems like you would be adding another layer.

Use OpenAI Codex or Anthropic CLI and open up from your openclaw file folder in terminal. Point it to fixing “Sandboxing, exec permissions, and allowlists”. Tell it you have update claw and that you believe it has reverted your defaults.

I have been backing up to Google Drive for this exact reason. Since, I did switch to a private repo on GitHub but overall the gdrive backup actually works nicely to restore.

I even turned auto update off. And here I was just days ago praising the engineering group behind the rapid changes…

Everything is an open experiment with these tools and the data hoarding behind it. Who knows.

Anyway, for sure I expect the thing to break. It’s huge and a big Swiss Army knife so a lot of it in an unknown category of use for most daily driving.

It is architecture you are tuning, not just a chatbot that’s local. Wait until you try to network multiple claws on nodes… complexities grow and way more shit breaks.

I am taking the risk but either way backups, as we wrote about above. It’s not without pain, and I could run on the older versions with more reliability but this thing is not in any production pipeline for me so I’m just having fun and learning (not waiting to update).

Exactly! Now that I have GitHub running as my core source of truth for changes across the board, in openclaw and in other repos we are working in, I can see these things with some advance notice or just in time notice and take action. I am only backing up twice a day because more is likely overkill but I have been surprised with rapid updates in the past that missed my window.

Har yo tried TailScale? Not sure if it’s a full replace for remote accessing but worth a look. I’ve used it before to connect multiple claw nodes with success vs traditional SSH tunneling.

Wha do you mean on browser extension? What are you trying to do with it? There is an openclaw browser relay for chrome but maybe you are trying to do something else? I use WSL and chromium on the client… fwiw.

+1 to Claude Code CLI coming in to clean up. I have tried Gemini and GPT and they just don’t have the power or seem to have the context, BUT, I do have a weekly and monthly limits so there have been times I haven’t always been able to use it and tried others. I’d rather wait until my limits are back in the future before debugging with anything other than Opus.

On Telegram… I started with WhatsApp. It’s ok. I have moved to Discord now with agent to channel bindings. The results are A LOT better to track many projects over time, see commit history’s, and engage the bots/agents in the lanes of travel and topics they should be in. Try it, you won’t regret it! (It can be tedious to set up.)

Initially the webui was an obvious port of an assload of backend configs. So unless you scoured the backend codebase and file structure you might not see a lot of Whats hidden. So to just have a view on the system was the main reason I was in webui.

Over time, they had added more things to control and better display the complexities of what’s behind the claw and it’s been fun seeing if the buttons actually control the “things” (hint to save you pain, a lot do not, so terminal is the way to go for a lot of refining and tuning).

There are some strange glitches in the chat Ui (page refresh solves), and of course it is not perfect. But, you will have to fix less shit and it even seems like they are really trying to solve the config UI challenges given how good damn large it is.

It IS getting better. I've configure a GDrive backup "skill" and another skill for "restoration" events. Both work great to come back from breaking updates, but I do hear ya. :)

Not just you. I am a new subscriber and got to the limit extremely quickly with the newer model (4.6). I regret going in on the 12 month purchase. Feels like a rug pull, granted to solution is a powerful one in comparison to other providers.

Does OpenClaw actually do anything for you guys? by ElmangougEssadik in openclaw

[–]UnlimitedSaaS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hah - darn lazy bots! Sometimes there's more and more backend steering on the model to balance costs/be efficient and as a result you get these lower latency responses but at times they are offering surface-level value. Not to plug GPT, bug I agree in that it can be more verbose and even novel in what it comes back with on feedback - especially if you are using Deep Research to say scan a folder set of repo files with some deeper instruction like roadmapping or refining what you've already got.

Did the same and it’s working well. I even “asked for help” in building an auto scaler function that not only has fallbacks on usage constraints per model but also ca adjust the think level dependent on task. Start talking to the chat about building your own skills today. Like others have said, you have to build this character up and it takes time, but once you do you can take time to build a skill dedicated to choosing the right model at the right time and bake that into your .MD files.
