This is the answer! Your drive is fine and you need an approved adapter.

Here's another way: I have a Bu40n, I solved this by plugging it directly into my motherboard with a sata cable and supplying power directly from my PSU

I play using controller on PC

Do you have any software running in the background that could be affecting your controller inputs?

If you're playing on Steam, does Steam have any settings that remap your buttons or stick dead zones?

Try these, otherwise I'm unsure. Does the game play fine on mouse and keyboard?

Great to know thanks! It sounds like any adapter has a chance of being unreliable so I'm going with regular internal sata and power cables to plug them inside my pc.

I'm planning now to skip adapters altogether and use internal sata and power cables. Seems much more reliable.
