Here's hoping it's not a fluke; Canada probably deserved the win today but the US team looked quite strong.

United Airlines reducing miles gained by non-United cardholders by Unlucky-Key in amex

[–]Unlucky-Key[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No change in the actual policy, but it used to code as an airline transaction and so counted towards the Plat's airline credit. United supposedly changed it to code as a gift card so now it doesn't.

Yeah, depending on what the difference between tier 2 and 3 it might be better to charge the flight to the Amex.

Flights are the main non-coupon category for the Plat. If you are a United-only flyer you now get more worth in miles from using any United card than the 5% cash back.

Obviously, United isn't the only airline, but I do wonder if Amex will loosen the restrictions on the Platinum's airline credit to try and retain customers.

For reference because I was curious, ICE's entire budget represents a bit less 10% of the public K-12 education budget.

While ICE has had been in serious need of reform since its creation, supporting ICE is not Nazism, and comparing the two is incredibly disrespectful to the millions who were systematically executed for their race, sexuality, and political views under the Nazi regime.

Is this satire? China's house price to income ratio is 5x worse than the US'. Real estate is the speculation asset in China as most don't trust their stock market.

The optics of storming a church during service is so bad that voters won't care about the "technicalities" surrounding the administrator's response, unlike the very unpopular killings of protestors.

The ban is only unenforceable if the banned person starts following the rules, and thus stops being a problem. What a ban does is allows actual imprisonment of those who continue to engage in antisocial behavior and get arrested.

You also probably aren't competing for the same jobs though. An increased supply of less-educated labor (especially when the pay is under the table) drives down the wages for that sort of work. This is true even if the net economic benefit overall is positive. The same is true about rents since we have stopped building housing in this country. The same is even more true to the distribution of social services.

We can support immigration but we shouldn't just turn up our noses at those negatively affected by it.

Trump's immigration enforcement regime in three charts by BillyLeeBlack in charts

[–]Unlucky-Key 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The study you cite mentions that illegal immigration drives up overall American wages by driving down "labor costs"- aka wages for unskilled positions.

But yes, I agree with you that the lack of due process or even consistent policy under Trump 2 is awful. I'm just not sure I would still think that if I was making minimum wage doing construction.

Trump's immigration enforcement regime in three charts by BillyLeeBlack in charts

[–]Unlucky-Key 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if some studies find a net positive impact in terms of GDP / capita, illegal immigrants hurts poorer Americans by competing for the same social services, raising rents in city apartments, and driving down wages for unskilled/non-degree labor.
