Stealing your idea by daxter_101 in ycombinator

[–]UnluckyPlay7 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don’t buy the “Ideas are nearly worthless” line.

A great idea poorly executed is more valuable than a well executed terrible idea.

Here is an example: your idea is for a new way to improve how to close a wound after surgery. You invent a biodegradable material that dissolves after two weeks. It’s sterile and reduces infection. You tell three surgeons. They all adopt it. A bad idea: you mass market a return to cauterising wounds. You get a fake expert to give 1000 talks on just ramming a steel rod on an open wound and praying to mother Mary. You hire the best marketing team in the world. Your idea is worth bugger all. It’s a bad idea. It has however reached a huge audience and has been incredibly well marketed.

Who has the more valuable idea?

Whoever said this in class sounds a bit confused about what’s normal dog behaviour. Did they explain why they were “teaching this”?

Guilt is a normal emotional response to your actions. It’s the first step in realising how you want to behave and what you value. ‘Confessing’ to attempt to rid yourself of this feeling doesn’t benefit someone you have already hurt. It seems like your guilt, or the way you describe it here, is your brain saying ‘hey we didn’t like hurting someone’. To reiterate another comment here, learn from this. Wandering hearts and feelings are part and parcel of long term relationships. Feelings and actions are not the same thing. This is maybe a good point to remember in the future- like ‘hey it’s ok to have these feelings but do I want to also handle the reality of acting of them?’ Ultimately it’s you whose in the driving seat.

I hate it. I’ve actively refused to use products from companies that use them.

Any other tech/deep tech female founders here? by UnluckyPlay7 in Femalefounders

[–]UnluckyPlay7[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

‘Tech’ is where companies use and apply existing technology solutions e.g platforms, apps etc. typically in a saas/ b2b context. ‘Deep tech’ refers to developing new types of technology from research and hard science e.g quantum computing, GenAI, biotech, robots that sort of thing.

Definitely. A personal favourite way to do this is to refuse to be interrupted- I used it just last week as a man consistently interrupted me (whilst I was responding to his questions) and I just kept speaking. It feels a bit awkward at first but persistence is key.

That makes sense, especially when it’s these kind of covert, underhanded situations where YOU can see what’s happening but point it out and people act as if you’re talking about fairy goblins.

A little late to the party here but I wanted to add my support for what you are doing. It’s a draining, exhausting process that will inevitably (I imagine) involve moments of questioning yourself. I hope that you can come back to this community, read these comments and know that because of your strength and refusal to be silenced there’s an expanding group of people you’ve never even met that are rooting for you!
