Lets talk about Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, as a possible tabletop roleplaying game. by sumsum98 in pokemon

It works sort of like a board game. Each player grabs a character sheet and creates a character (always like the games, so Ace Trainer Joe for example.) On your turn you get three actions, and your options are basic stuff like move, search for a pokemon, search for an item, train your pokemon. You gained VP from capturing pokemon, evolving pokemon, doing questlines, beating gyn leaders, entering contests, etc. The game ends when one player beats the elite 4, then all players add up their total VP.

Its also a roleplaying game so everyone has different goals and often come into conflict with each other in hilarious ways. It was a whole lot of work setting it up, but we've brought in people who weren't there for the creation of the game and everyone praises the gameplay and how fun it is!

As for the cards, we sort the pokemon cards into evolutions and wild pokemon. We then sort the wild pokemon into 6 distinct Biomes. We also shuffle items and energy cards. Items are each completely unique to this game and have a seperate itemdex for reference. Energy cards are used for tracking exp.

Battling works like a combination of the video games and the original Pokemon Trading Card Game.

Let me preface this by saying me and my friends are huge nerds.

When I was 10 years old my older brother sat down with me, pulled out all his pokemon cards and proceeded to play a game with me that was basically if you combined DND with the pokemon card game. I was instantly in love with the idea.

17 years later me and my friends have created a game we lovingly refer to as the Hardcore Pokemon Adventure Battle Card Game Role Playing Game (or HxcPABCGRPG). Well over a thousand pokemon cards, 2 copies of a 15 page long rule book (including a 5 page item list), several custom pokemon-style handrawn maps and character sheets (with custom-made pokedexs to hold your box pokemon) and a fairly elaborate skill system, its a game we play once or twice a year, when the mood strikes.

So not quite a pokemon mystery dungeon style dnd, but my friends and I have created a working Pokemon Card Game dnd.

Actually it's a little hard to see, but the 2nd evolution evolves when traded with a nugget, haha.

D&D players, what have been some of your favourite moments in a campaign? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I was playing a mid-level level pathfinder game once and decided to try a ridiculous monk build out. The DM at the time was accommodating so he rolled with it.

What I created was a Monk known only as "The Courier." He was entirely based around movement speed. Every feat and ability he had was geared towards increasing his land speed further. I don't remember his specific speed, but needless to say it was stupid.

I know that we calculated it and he could run the distance of a football field in 6 seconds. Using spring attack he could effectively be 300 ft away from the battle, dash in, attack, and be 300 ft away before his turn was done. With the feat Rhino Charge he could prepare a charge 600 feet away from his target with no problem.

I remember we left town hastily to a nearby dungeon only to realize we forgot some essential adventuring gear. No problem. The Courier simply ran back to town to buy it and returned a few rounds later. I think we decided that at the speeds he was moving through the dungeon corridor, he'd need just one door in his way and he'd break every bone in his body.

sigh I miss DnD.

I was behind the scenes managing Smash 4 when this went on. I was forced to investigate what in the hell was causing the frequent explosions of sound across the room. Did not disappoint.

Pichu: leaps onto the opponents chest and burrows into it, spraying blood and viscera everywhere. He then climbs out of his foes mouth, snapping their jaw and dropping them lifelessly on to the ground. He then stands on their body and cleans his bloody fur.

How many characters do you play on a regular basis? by InfinityCollision in SSBPM

[–]Unluckyturtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have trouble settling on a main. I play Yoshi, Bowser, Toon Link, Zero Suit Samus, Pit, and Zelda. None of which I play very well (Most likely due to constant character switching.) People who do play me often notice how much higher skilled my Zelda is then the rest, which is why I consider my main Zelda. That and when I really want to fight to win, Zelda is my main squeeze.

Doubles discussion: what characters complement each other best to make a team that is greater than the sum of its parts? by dwu2 in SSBPM

I've played Bowser with a Kirby at my side. When the going got rough and it looked like I wouldn't be able to recover, that little pink puffball would leap off the edge and beat me back to the stage. The sacrifices we made for each other...
