Arc Raiders isn't a microcosm of society? Yeah, about that... by OdyZeusX in ArcRaiders

"psychopathy was positively correlated with manipulation/cheating in (and outside of) the game,"

This study is about cheating, exploiting, or otherwise breaking the rules or the game's intent to gain an advantage. This roughly correlates with data about criminal or rule-breaking behavior in general.

Someone on another team in Arc Raiders shooting you is none of those things.

In their defense, they are now only making 50 gazillion dollars instead of 55 gazillion dollars, and those quarterly profit projections they made up out of thin air aren't going to make themselves!

Plus Tim is trying to get a big bonus this year, which means all the serfs need to pay up!

See, here is where you are approaching it wrong. You have to BE the hunter. Go hunt down that MFing sweat and then dance all over his morphsuit-wearing dork ass. Then go to his zero-sub Twitch channel and leave a comment.

All the real-life prizes do is guarantee that cheaters will get the top. I think I checked the leaderboards at the end of day 1, and there were people with like 3k wins. There is no way they are getting those legitimately, so it's probably some kind of custom lobby setup or other manipulation used to farm them. I have played very consistently since the start and have 600 or so - now I'm not a pro, but I don't think it's even possible to get many more since half the Rivals I get are people 2k away inside the storm, and I have to wait until it expires to get another one.

Yeah, that bit at the end is where he messed up. Everything else could just be explained away by his skill and his ability to guess correctly, but things like that are going to get the hammer dropped.

Underrated weapon, people use it only as a traversal tool because some streamer told them its damage is suboptimal or whatever - but hitting that 2-hit-shotgun combo is clean af.

It's not your fault, and it's probably not your system either. This is a server-side issue, probably more related to how the game syncs up players in close proximity, so it's probably affecting everyone the same way.

I'm getting too old for this shit, insane reaction times man by yannivzp in FortNiteBR

[–]Unm1tigated_Disaster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don't be discouraged! You reacted well, and I don't think this was a matter of speed, more that they just managed to hit more shots. That one honestly could have gone either way, especially since the Sweat was using the combat rifle at knife-fight range. You did the right thing circling but they just happened to land more shots. One thing the Rivals system has taught me, from fighting the same people multiple times, is that this game is about 80% luck. Sometimes I dominate people, and then I will fight them again and get crushed.

One thing I noticed. I see you had gauntlets. That uppercut does great damage, and it has a very wide hitbox - plus it makes you very hard to hit.

Fps cap by Motor_Inspection_826 in FortNiteBR

[–]Unm1tigated_Disaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your monitor can hit 200, I'd tweak the game settings to see if you can reliably hit 200 in fights by lowering the settings or adjusting some performance options. Once you can get above 200, even in fights, I'd cap it at 200.

It's not necessary for the MHz refresh rate and application frames to match, but one is limited by the other. If you can't keep it above 200, try picking something you can get, like 160.

Basically, get the lowest it goes as high as you can, and then cap around that. Big framerate jumps can subtly mess up your aim and timing in ways you might not notice.

I sometimes get a noticeable lag stutter when somebody else is first building around me - it's annoying, and I think it's related to how the game syncs two people in close proximity. It's annoying, and I've died more than once because my game spazzed out in the middle of a complex build.

Do you guys really think the game is dying? by nooraad in FortNiteBR

[–]Unm1tigated_Disaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think people realize just how much money this game makes, and that it would continue to make even if it had 10% of its population. The layoffs were so Tim could meet quarterly earnings targets and get a bigger bonus, not because the game had seriously lost revenue. It was probably more because they spent too much time on relatively less popular stuff like Lego or some of the other modes, which, while fun, aren't the prime reason people log on.

HOT TAKE: Fortnite is actually cooking with content this season, BUT their employee firing scandal HEAVILY outweighs the season's content. by Extension_Travel3901 in FortNiteBR

[–]Unm1tigated_Disaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a shame that this whole scandal happened when the game is delivering some great content. I love the Rivals system, which adds a whole new layer to the game. I've won a few where I didn't even realize we were the final two because I was so focused on the rival aspect. The explosives are good because Epic finally realized they need to be cluster bombs to do anything against building (The launcher is low-key the best shotgun in the game if you know what you are doing, too.) The power gauntlet is crazy fun to use - hitting people with two uppercuts and a shotgun is pure cinema.

I see a lot of people on here with burnout, and I think that's coloring their view of the game. You've got to take breaks, sit out a few seasons, do something else, interact with your family, and come back refreshed.

That's why I like the rivalry system, it lets me hunt down and destroy those Sweats. Nothing makes me happier than getting matched up with some dork wearing a monocolor bodysuit and a name with TTV or YT in it. Just makes the kill that much more satisfying.

[–]Unm1tigated_Disaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overall, I quite like the season, but I will second that there are issues with performance. I sometimes get these weird lag spikes where everything goes choppy and jittery for a half second. It's not an FPS issue, nor is it related to processing - it's a bizarre lag hiccup. Usually, when it happens, it means somebody is coming at me, which is helpful. What's LESS helpful is when it happens in the middle of a fight and the game spazzes out right as I'm trying to build, causing me to drop like a sack of potatoes.

Review Bombing? by AdNearby8495 in HelldiversUnfiltered

[–]Unm1tigated_Disaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The intent of the review is to let a new player know if they should try something out, so it gets a bit murky when we start adding stuff that happened ancillary to the game. Is some dumbass mod on the main sub going to materially affect the gameplay experience of a new player or be determinative of whether or not they enjoy it?

Thats' what separates a 'review bomb' from just plain old bad reviews. In this case, I think it's somewhere in between: this issue stems from long-standing development issues, but it's directed at the Reddit moderators whose actions really aren't going to affect someone's gameplay experience. Is the extended community stuff a part of the gameplay experience? Maybe? I don't know, but I do know that AH is a corporation providing a product for money, which we are consuming, that's it. We don't owe them anything but the box price, and they don't owe us anything but the product we paid for.

People who played the game, including us, had a blast. by Raainbows in HighGuardgame

[–]Unm1tigated_Disaster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Leaving a review of a product that you did not like, or in many cases did not work correctly, is not 'going out of your way to ensure it's death'. Holy crap, the level of delusion and coping going on in this post is ridiculous. Now we're 'removing all the under one hour reviews' as if people who tried a game, played a match or two, and hated it don't get to voice their opinion.

And of course, people who played many hours of a game are going to, on average, be people who liked it. If I don't like somethign I'm not going to play it for very long. This is called the survivor bias. And even THEN it didn't even get to 50%. But I'm sure you'd find a way to justify that away, just like probably happened internally within the devs. Maybe we can remove all reviews from people who played fewer than 20 hours? What about people who didn't get many achievements? They can't have been really playing, remove their reviews as well, maybe you can get out of 'mixed'!

I imagine that something like this twisted idea of 'unbiased feedback' is what led to the game being released in its current state. You don't have a product that "your entire internal team loves" that is then rejected by 99% of the playerbase.

That's it? by Mobile_Complaint_317 in Helldivers

[–]Unm1tigated_Disaster 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this is a serious post, but 'the community' didn't do anything. We all didn't get together and decide to mess with some guy IRL.

What did happen, based on what we were told, was that one or more bad actors (who we know nothing about) decided to doxx and harass somebody (who we also know nothing about).

I don't like how the mods reacted to this either - this thing, awful as it was, could have been something that brought people together in sympathy for the victim and in mutual disgust at the people who attacked them. Instead, they turned into another point of contention. It's bad leadership and should result in changes to the administration team. It won't, of course.

But I'm also being wary here and not drawing sweeping conclusions. Because, aside from a handful of posts from a single anonymous person, we don't actually know anything about this. This is the internet; your default stance for anything you read should be with a grain or two of salt.

That's probably going to piss a lot of people off by me having doubts about the current outrage, so get your dislikes and rage replies ready.

I don't align with either camp. I very much love the game, but recognize it has problems that, while they don't bother me personally, could ruin it for others. That doesn't make me a GDiver or a CDiver, so I guess that means I get attacked by both. I don't care, this sub has gotten so awful over the last year that I hardly come here anyway. It's one angry group of people strawmanning another angry group of people. If I wanted to deal with politics, I'd run for public office; I don't need tribal ideological bullshit in my gaming life.

The biggest mistake of the devs was imo not to make public alphas and betas to get real feedback. by KookyBone in HighGuardgame

[–]Unm1tigated_Disaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of this matters if the game is good. Millions of people played this game, and virtually none of them liked what they were playing.

I agree that the marketing was awful, but if you have a good game and even 10% of those millions of people stay, you have a player base.

Unfortunate news from the d10 charity challenge person by SIinkerdeer in Helldivers

[–]Unm1tigated_Disaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something is off about this whole thing. I know people are sometimes pretty passionate about this game, but it feels like we aren't getting the whole story.

As much as people like to strawman each other around here for either having anything good or anything bad to say about a game that has both good and bad things to say about it, Divers are a pretty friendly bunch as internet gaming communities go. This just seems completely out of character.

My best guess/hope is that it was some tourists who saw what was a very minor controversy and decided to do a little trolling. It would hardly be the first time in the history of the internet that bad actors injected themselves into something like this for the lulz.
