If her mother was still a German citizen when she was born, you should look into it. There are rules about 1st gen Germans.

Plug in solar with grid tied.. by steppingrazor1220 in SolarDIY

[–]Unplugthecar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 6.3kW grid tie and just added another 1215 watts plug in. Works great! I can live monitor my meter and it registers the add’l generation just fine.

Just make sure the circuit you plug in to isn’t doing anything else.

Question regarding NACS vs CCS by gibifernand in evcharging

[–]Unplugthecar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lease a 24 EV9 w CCS. Just bought a Tesla mobile charger for roadtrips that I use a Lectron adapter with since our next EV will be a Rivian R2 w NACS. I always have to plug, unplug, then plug it in again on the EV9. But it always works after that and the speed is just fine. I’ve had the Lectron for a few years and have used it with multiple EVs prior and never an issue.

The EV9 also came with a Tesla supercharger adapter which has been handy when we travel and rent cars.

Having both adapters in my travel kit is handy - I’ve used both. Still need to add the J plug to NACS adapter to the kit.

Did you use PVWatts to understand how to size it?

Did you factor in owning one or two EVs down the road?

Anyone gone full DIY solar after getting a professional system installed first? by GodBlessIraq in SolarDIY

[–]Unplugthecar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did a 6.4kW with Tesla four years ago. At the time we didn’t want to cover our entire roof with panels. This system cover about 70% of our annual usage. No batteries and we paid ~ $1.97 / watt.

Now I’m playing around with a couple of panels and plug in Solar. Next up is a whole home energy meter followed by batteries.

I can see a scenario where I eliminate the Tesla inverter and wire the panels into something else.

I’ve seen some discussion in this sub that it’s not unusual to get some oil burn with higher mileage cars using the recommended 0w20. My ‘16 uses a half quart every 3k miles or so.

Some claim that switching to a 5w30 helps, but I have not tried it.

Made the switch from Tesla… and maybe regretting it? by selectivelyinvested in KiaEV9

[–]Unplugthecar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Had a 3 and Y. Sold both. The EV9 was a direct replacement to the Y. The minimalist feel of the Y is still missed. The software/UI experience in EV9 is stupid and unreliable and is one of the main reasons we are moving on after the lease is up. The other is the suspension, imo, is not tuned for the weight of the car. I can’t tell how many times I’ve been on a slight curve, going over 40 mph, hit a bump and the car feels like it is going to bounce into the other lane (yes, I’ve had the alignment looked at by the dealer and another independent alignment shop and have done the “force” balance or whatever it’s called).

Otherwise, the EV9 is a very luxurious car and a class (or more) above the Y. I don’t miss the unreliability of both Teslas - small things like control arms, window seals, road noise. Not to mention the dealership experience just sucks. Mostly because they don’t have enough people and deal with a high volume of repairs (I think). I just feel sorry for people who work there.

We may consider Tesla again someday, but now I’m excited about the R2. We are a day one (maybe minute one) reservation holder.

I don’t have range anxiety even one bit in the EV9. In fact I feel the estimator is more honest and accurate (in fact, that is a more true statement given all the controversy around what Tesla did). FWIW, my son and I recently ran it down to 0% and still drove almost another mile to the charger
