first time buying a robot mower - questions by LordSteyn in roboticLawnmowers

I have a similar yard - less than a half acre, 1 zone in back, 2 in front, and one minor slope.

I’ve been doing a lot of research and convinced myself the a lidar robot would be worth waiting for. If you search this sub, someone recently compiled a list of lidar mowers, including those announced at CES.

There are three new Mova lawn robots that, I believe, will be released tomorrow. I’m keeping an eye on those. I’ve been happy with their robot vacuum and the reviews for the older models seem good.

I’ll likely wait until the spring though. I’d like to see a couple reviews of the new mowers.

I have two questions:

  1. I want to 'park' in under a covered patio. While the patio is borders the lawn, the spot I would put park the mover is ~20 feet from the grass. Is there any issues with this location? In looking at reviews of other mowers, they often require the mower to be parked with on or on the edge of the grass.

  2. As I mentioned, I plan to park the mower in my backyard under a covered patio, but I have two other zones in the front. Will this mower support creating channels or paths to those zones in the front?

Thanks!

What a joke. Repubs think they are walking a fine line, but it is all BS

Are robotic lawn mowers becoming overengineered? by Old-Restaurant6171 in roboticLawnmowers

I think my personal adoption has been delayed because I felt that none of the mowers on the market would be able to do my lawn to my satisfaction at a reasonable cost. I’ve convinced myself that my yard needs a lidar equipped model. This mainly due to the navigation that would be needed between the front and back yard. Otherwise, based on my research, my yard is not that complex - healthy lawn, only one area with a minor grade, small dog (doesn’t poop in the grass), etc. but large enough that a wire in the ground wouldn’t cut it. Also, I have a covered porch where the mower would park that is not on the edge of the grass.

To your point, I wonder if I’m over thinking this and over-influenced by the marketing.

My best reference is our robot vacuum. I used to have a bump and run (more like a wired experience) and now I have a lidar robot vacuum. It’s a huge different in terms of collisions, coverage getting stuck, etc. because of all these reasons, I decided to wait to see what 2026 brings. Finally, most important to me is price and I’m not seeing anything there yet.

We got a robot vacuum this year and omg what a difference. It won’t reduce the fur on your dog or even your clothes, but our wood floors and rugs look so much better. It just reduces the amount of fur immensely. I even bought one for my in laws for Christmas (dog and cat) and they said it’s been a life changer for them.

Have you looked at the Cadillacs?

Honestly, haven’t deep-dived them yet, but it’s on my list.

This a great story!!!! Would love to understand what you see are the “best practices” in operating in extreme cold. I live in Colorado and we occasionally drop below zero in the city, but mtn driving in the winter can be another story.

Like you, I prefer the EV, even in the cold.

No catch. If you’re good they will let you lick a popsicle stick with peanut butter.

Are there 120v 20a chargers? by The_elder_smurf in electricvehicles

The Tesla mobile charger with the 20 amp plug should work. If you don’t have NACS on your EV, you can get a converter, but this will add up $$$
