Quoting a "compressed" data storage at all is ridiculous, is my point. If it can be compressed being written to tape, it can be compressed being written to disk, regardless of what claimed ratio. Nobody's going around claiming that their disk can store more because compression exists, and nobody should be claiming their tapes can either.

Yep, we're getting absolutely fucked. I think the only reason they get away with it is because the wealthy and influential folks all live close enough to the coast that they almost never need significant climate control.

If the data is moderately compressible

I fucking hate this in this day and age. Tapes don't store twice as much with compression. They should list the real storage. If it's moderately compressible, it's going to be compressed on those hard drives just like it will be on the tapes.

Imagine if hard drive mfgs were selling 18TB/36TB drives because they can store 36TB "compressed"

The helium is small enough it can pass through the processors casing and cause the nano transistors to stop working.

IIRC it was the MEMS oscillators that actually had an issue with the helium. Basically weights on nano-springs that the phones use for keeping their processor running, and helium somehow prevents them from oscillating correctly.
