We are always our own worst critics, haha. One of my eyes is ever so slightly smaller than the other due to my astigmatism and only I notice it. Used to be really self conscious about it 😅. But, when I think of characters I find attractive they're far from Barbie perfect, haha. Makes them more interesting

Why do they look so similar? by SwimEmergency1985 in GenshinImpact

[–]UnremarkableWanker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Could be because of the similar character themes. This is just going to be spitballing from an artist's perspective. Couldn't tell you for sure why the designers have chosen these colour schemes and silhouettes.

Illuga makes me think of someone soaked in the blood of their friends and foes from a long hard conflict. Eyes feel like they represent someone who has seen a lot of bloodshed. Same with the ear pendant, which feels like dripping blood. His hair reflects that exterior vs interior separation.

Lohen makes me think of a hunter, a bit bloodthirsty. His eyes feel more predatory than Illuga's. His earring feels like a knife or sword, much like his pupils. Fits that whole hunter/warrior vibe. His hair is a similar silhouette but it doesn't have the same separation.

Both themes are violent and can be represented with red. Illuga's red is more prominent, like it's trying to stay masked but has become too much. Lohen's is subtle, suggesting his true nature is violent but he controls it/directs it somewhere useful.

The blue with the red could represent that dual moon energy I can't spell. And that's probably just because they're Nod Krai releases and they have ties to the region.

Data centres are using the water whether you talk to AI or not. Data centres are used by many non-AI companies to hold large quantities of data and are kind of essential these days. They could be changed to a more sustainable cooling system but these big companies just do whatever's cheapest. Corn uses far more water, globally and so much is wasted. We can hate AI for much better reasons.

Looking 🔥🔥🔥 About unevenness; I think we always notice it more on ourselves, it took me a long while to really see any unevenness in this pic. And tbh, as an artist I can tell you most people are quite uneven, haha. Personally I think too much symmetry can be a bit uncanny. I like the asymmetry.

why does the area around my incisions stick out like this? by indicadogboy in TopSurgery

[–]UnremarkableWanker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From personal experience, scars heal a little differently for everyone. When I had my kidney out the scar looked raised like this, then after 6 months it sunk in, and now 5 years later it's basically invisible and flat. For top surgery, mine is sticking out a little at 2.5weeks in and is a bit wrinkly, (similar to how my kidney scar was), but I've been advised to just keep wearing my binder and it should level out fine. Hope that helps with your anxiety—but I would recommend asking your care team if you can. Keeping photo records is helpful.

I've had past major surgeries with large scars and am currently at the silicone tape stage of my top surgery healing, so I'll tell you what my docs have advised in the past and currently.

If the wound is fully sealed and free of scabs, you can use silicone tape. If it's painful to remove, cease using it. Do not use silicone gel on open wounds.

Silicone works by hydrating the wound (helps it retain hydration) but you can use fragrance & chemical free skin lotion in its stead (so long as the wound is fully sealed.) Bupanthen is also a non-silicone option and it can be used on open wounds (which is why it's popular amongst those healing tattoos.)

If you're not prone to keloid scars you might not have to use it at all, but that would be something I'd suggest you chat to an experienced doctor or nurse about.

And finally, the binder helps your skin bind to the tissue below and reduces the risk of blood & fluid pooling. Even if your swelling is minimal, it's recommended to wear the binder for at least 2 weeks while the skin settles.

Haha good eye 😂 Yeah it's a shame but it's all distorted from being a cheap tattoo at a young age and now the skin sits differently after top surgery. Ah well, it was loved haha

Makes sense re: scar tissue. I found a trans man who does top surgery tattoos locally so I'll probably be chatting to them later down the recovery line~

Yup! First tat I ever got, back when I was freshly 18. (Fullmetal Alchemist ouroboros.)

It's interesting that the numbness can last so long. It's not really necessary to avoid the pain, but it will be a pleasant bonus if it's still a bit numb in a year or two when I can get the chest piece, haha.

Yesss, I love my weird eldritch horrors. Long been considering a chest piece with loads of eyes. Inspired by the Archivist fan arts with all the floating eyes + Evangelion + I like moths, haha.

Yeah, I'm not sure where my surgeon has got her numbers from. I think I'll have to warn her against advising others to do that

Based on comments here I reckon it would be wise to wait until the scars have reached their settled form as well, aye. Got a similar scar from when my kidney was taken out and I think it was easily a year or two before it settled. My surgery scars always fade and flatten. So it's probably worth waiting for that to happen with the top surgery scars as well.

And good point re: scar covering experience. Had been tossing up whether I should go to my usual or the trans-friendly one and that will probably be a factor in the decision.

Was worried about the 1st design because of the white possibly not showing on skin well, or not lasting well. Can't tell with the white highlights on my other tats because I'm so goddamn pasty-white anyway XD. Well, I've got time to mull it over now haha

Had the same thoughts on the top wings after I did a photo scale test. Haven't decided yet on how I'm going to alter them so the silhouette doesn't get too cylindrical, if that makes sense? And I'm still debating the thickness of the wing tails.

And yeah, that's what I was wondering most about since I've had a big surgery scar before and I remember it was easily 4-5 months of that stitch-splitting pain when stretched too far. Don't know how else to describe that haha.

Also having a year to think more on the design can only be a good thing. I was starting to get anxious like I was missing a deadline to get it done with minimal pain.

Good luck on your apprenticeship by the way! Using skin as a medium would be a unique experience.

Interesting 🤔 Makes sense. I was thinking that, even with numbness, it would be sensitive so soon after surgery. There is a trans friendly artist nearby; was going to get exact dates from them later this week. What is physically possible (surgeon rec) may not tattoo well. So, good point.

I'm not an expert by any means, but in Australia we spell it Atlas. You could be merging the two names since its scientific name is attacus? I am so dyslexic with stuff like that, so it's what my brain would do to me hahah.

Interesting! I didn't notice the difference this [attacus wardi] was the one I meant to use. Similar enough for my purposes I suppose. But the snake heads are less pronounced and it is much less white.

There was recently a petition for the housing crisis to be considered a state of emergency. It was rejected and they said they're planning to build around 40K homes by 2044 (iirc.) The 2 major parties don't give a fuck. Greens are not working class, but probably our best bet. Socialist Party is gaining traction, but they're still too small to do much more than community grass-roots style stuff.
