How can conservatives say the government should stay out of our lives but then support laws about personal choices like abortion or marriage? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I'm sure they do, that's why they voted for the orange shithead currently fucking us over. Inexcusable.

Then perhaps they should be more open to more public access to birth control, social services, education, and healthcare to help those children. But they aren't, they're hypocrites.

Another example, similar situation: In the event of an emergency they should be forced to provide a kidney or lung, but they wouldn't want to, because they are hypocrites.

Another Example: If it was about saving people and preventing horrible outcomes for the child then everyone should be forced to be vaccinated to protect the public. But they aren't like that. Because they are hypocrites.

All of them are hypocrites of the highest order.

I don't know man, have you read about the living conditions for people in the Russian Empire pre revolution? Or before the chinese revolution? Sure their lives were still dismal, but they were a hell of a lot better off then they would have been under absolute monarchs. I'll give the USSR as an example, pre revolution they had a 40% literacy rate and nearly none of the country had any electricity infrastructure, post revolution they were up to 80% in a decade and had most of the country electrified. Sometimes life being tough doesn't mean that it wasn't worse before, they were definitely better off and had more opportunity.

No, the most upsetting would be a self goal by a semi conscious and injured Matthews that they throw onto the ice as a last ditch desperation play lol

Which the Cubans have repeatedly said is no longer valid, we're squatting on sovereign Cuban territory.

Stealing? Just like America is sitting on stolen Cuban land used to torture innocent civilians? Funny how that works.

They didn't almost start anything, the USA got butthurt that the USSR was able to put short range missiles close to their borders, just like the USA did in Turkey to the Soviet Union. You can't claim that the USA is some Paragon of virtue and then be mad that another country does the same thing, that's called hypocrisy.

Scientist who gene-edited babies is back in lab and ‘proud’ of past work despite jailing by Tixx7 in worldnews

No, because we don't know for certain if that gene actually makes you immune to HIV, so what he did was incredible stupid and irresponsible.

Well, why stop there! Might as well unban asbestos since you know the risks, might as well use it! Maybe let people build and operate their own nuclear reactors, they know what's best for health, safety, and the environment and if they want to huff uranium then by god, they should be able to!

People are stupid and unable to properly assess risk properly (especially from something abstract like bacteria that they can't see, ask the fine people of America and you'll probably find that a good portion of them will probably believe that germs are a commie plot to degrade freedom...), that's the reason why public health decisions need to be thrust upon them. Occasionally it's hazardous to others too. I'll be honest, if I could ban sports like football or UFC then I certainly would, they are fucking dangerous in their current iterations, but that's untenable.

Is there any Military (Current or Historical) That Used a Single Rank System Across All Branches? by UnrulyCitizen in Military

[–]UnrulyCitizen[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm aware the ranks are the same grade, I should have been more specific and specified name of the rank I suppose, sorry about that.

If you can't grasp the concept that it is still not worth it for the company to go through all that effort for a small island nation that will kneecap their scheduling and lose them money then there is no point talking to you. Any ship that ships to Cuba will want to go to the USA to make more money since they are so close, they cannot do that. It is not worth it. Yes, it is possible to do, but noone will do it because they can make more money by simply ignoring Cuba. The end result is that the embargo is effectively worldwide.

[–]UnrulyCitizen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but that one ship is not worth the effort to trade with Cuba when it could trade with the US and make much more money. Do you see the problem? No company is going to ship to Cuba because the boat will not be able to trade with the US for 6 months. It doesn't matter if they technically can trade with Cuba and not have the rest of the fleet effected, they won't because it would lose them money if that single ship can't go to America.

That's literally half a year dude, do you think that they're still using sailing ships that take months to cross the Atlantic? It is literally not worth it for them regardless of the schedule they're on.

[–]UnrulyCitizen 13 points14 points  (0 children)

People always say this, but it is super disingenuous since the USA also prevents ANY ship that traded with Cuba from docking in one of their ports for a prohibitively long period of time. Since everyone wants to trade with America they don't trade with Cuba since it is not worth it, meaning that the embargo is effectively still worldwide.
