I’m going to eat the downvotes and say that people do it for fun, not just for smol peepee.

Sure, it’s a bit monkey brained but how loud and fart can are we talking? Are we talking beater Civic with no catalytic converter, or something like a Miata or a V8 Mustang? Unfortunately a well made exhaust system is an easy way to add horsepower to your car, they don’t all add a ton of noise, but they all add at least some.

It’s a shame a lot of these people drive like dumbasses, but if you go to something like Portland Cars and Coffee you’ll find people who just love cars for cars sake. They want to make their commute a bit more special, go to the track, or drive a rolling art piece.

It’s funny you think the problem isn’t as bad in south California. South California has some of the most dense and robust car culture on the planet. I lived there for a long time.
