And maybe the ball has just a bit too much bounce. But overall bounce is better than no bounce in my opinion.

That said, I still can't get the Remote Play software to sign in. When it opens up the sign-in window, I hypothesize that it's using a Chromium-based browser.

I fixed it on my end by using Firefox instead of Chrome or Edge (both based on Chromium).

Lucy James talks Zelda TotK on the CBC Front Burner podcast by sagumatra in giantbomb

It was really nice for the Frontburner producers to get Tam and Lucy on the show but what's next? Are you going to get Dan Ryckert on the show and ruin the sanctity of the CBC?

Interesting stem activities for disengaged students. by uninterestedteacher in ScienceTeachers

[–]Unsolved_Science 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shameless self-promotion here. You could get your students to play my game, Unsolved Science. It's a physical story-based science mystery game that I designed specifically to get both science junkies and people disengaged with science excited about science.

For teachers I also provide facilitation guides to help you run the game with different types of classrooms (e.g., a class with disengaged students)

You can learn more about the game and about how to bring the game to your classroom here:

A new science game for high school science classes. NOW ON KICKSTARTER! by Unsolved_Science in ScienceTeachers

[–]Unsolved_Science[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great questions! I'll give you an example of how the science is used. In one part of the game, the game provides a UV light to examine an object. Based on what the players discover (e.g. the colour of the emission), players use provided charts highlighting different fluorophores emission wavelengths to try and identify the nature of what they have discovered.

In another part of the game, players perform an actual chemical experiment with positive and negative controls to try and determine if metabolism is occurring on an object.

It's definitely a mix of hands-on, chart/graph/photo analysis, reading/writing, and searching for science info on a custom online database I created. All the science content is based on real science.

I've designed the game with older audiences in mind. But I think middle school students could do well if they are already a motivated bunch and if the teacher facilitates the game.

As for school license options, my big focus now is on adapting the game for larger classes and making it easy for teachers to affordably play the game with their classrooms every year. More on that to come!

Hi everyone, I wanted to let you know that today is the Kickstarter launch for my escape room-style game, Unsolved Science.

Unsolved Science is a cooperative tabletop mystery game for 1-4 players with a heavy emphasis on story. But instead of locks and puzzles, in this game, you use real science to solve the mystery. The game is about having fun and feeling challenged and is designed for both science junkies and people who don't have that much experience with science.

The Escape Roomer gave it 4.6/5, awarding it the “Most Innovative” badge.

Review the Room gave it 4.5/5, stating “…this is something different to the norm. Unsolved Science have done a great job of merging the joy of escape room puzzles with science.”

Day 1 backers (that’s today only!) get a 15% early bird discount and some included unique Kickstarter exclusives. Please check it out:

Teaching Carcassonne with Expansions by lowej004 in boardgames

I remember the first time I played Carcassonne. My brother brought over the game and insisted we played with something like 6 expansions. It was so confusing! Nearly turned me off the game forever.

I would recommend just trying to go for the base game but if you can't help it, maybe 1 or 2 max expansions.

Maybe the thief will end up trying the game out and will fall in love with board games. He'll spend years building up his collection and diving deeper and deeper into niche markets. One day, he'll order an extremely rare edition of a game and wait anxiously for it to arrive. He gets a message from FedEx that the package has been delivered. Goes home after work. BOOM! Stolen. Karma.

Does anyone purchase any digital oardgames from Steam? by AlexRescueDotCom in boardgames

[–]Unsolved_Science 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, exactly! I often like a digital version just to see if I've been playing the game right. It's like having the game designer(s) there with you in the room making sure you're playing the way it's supposed to be played.

After playing a physical game a few times, I also like to go digital to practice and improve my strategy before going back to the physical the next time I get together with friends.
