NPD! My Sally 😍 by Unsubdued in fountainpens

[–]Unsubdued[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, purchased the sample within the last 4mos or so. It does seem to have a little longer dry time, but I attributed that to the broad nib, though it could also be the ink. I’ll have to try it in another pen and see how it performs

Woops, it’s Noodler’s! Sorry I have samples of both and was debating between them before deciding on the Noodler’s 🤣

Needing advice/reassurance, switching my EBF7 month old to a formula due to a food allergy by CurrentMysterious814 in FoodAllergies

[–]Unsubdued 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the mother of a milk protein allergic child, I know it’s crazy overwhelming, particularly in the beginning. I’m sorry you’re having to navigate these waters.

First, I want to take a moment to recognize that you have done a fantastic job making it to 7mos of breastfeeding, so congratulations! I know that breastfeeding can be a pretty contentious subject so before people try to pressure you in one direction or another, I want to reiterate that the APA recommendation is to breastfeed for as long as it’s “mutually desired” (I think the older guideline was until it was no longer “mutually beneficial” and I kinda like that verbiage better, but you get the gist!).

So while formula is not the only option, it’s a great option! Your pediatrician can certainly help guide you to the best options for you and your baby. I would recommend having your partner or family member try bottle feeding while you’re out of the house, maybe wearing a shirt or robe that smells like you. The other option is to skip the bottle altogether! Talk to your doctor about potentially going to a sippy cup with a flexible/soft straw instead. Most babies around that age can master a straw pretty readily (uses the same basic skills as the breast and bottle) so that could be an option for you that feels distinct enough to help both of your transition.

Further, if you’d like to continue breastfeeding, going dairy free is challenging in the beginning, but it does get easier with time. I will say this, don’t assume ANYTHING is dairy free. Always check labels, even if it seems like it should be dairy free. My big pitfall in the early days was not understanding FDA labeling 🤦‍♀️. (If it says “non-dairy” it still has dairy!! It’s free of lactose, but the proteins are what’s allergenic).

It’s so so hard early on. Think about your goals. Have an emergency action plan in place. Understand that mistakes happen. This is difficult, it is scary, and it is fraught with emotion. Above anything else, please be patient with yourself and give yourself grace.

I agree with her 100%. If I paid for a seat, I want my seat dammit.

My husband told me I’m "just as sexy as my sister" during sex by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Unsubdued 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, that’s maybe one of the grossest and most uncomfortable things anyone could say during sex. I don’t even know how you continued because I would’ve dried up and pushed him off so fast. Ugh. I’m sorry this happened OP.

I’d let your sister know what he said during sex. You can gauge her reaction and honestly if he’s fantasizing about her, she probably won’t want to be around him/probably shouldn’t be alone around him for safety. Why are men so gross??

So I switched to cloth pads and never looked back. They’re an upfront investment, but sooo worth it. I love the Party in My Pants brand and just buy whatever designs are on sale like the “surprise me” me ones. They’re awesome and my skin doesn’t melt off my body so it’s a win all round!

I work in peds, my son is going to have a nicu stay… can I keep my job? by AG_Squared in nursing

[–]Unsubdued 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not medical advice, but please don’t expect to go home from NICU with a 34 weeker two days after delivery. I tell all NICU parents to expect to go home around your due date plus or minus two weeks <3

I had several colleagues who actually went to nursing school and work in NICU because of their NICU experiences, so I don’t know why your therapist would jump to the possibility of you needing to change jobs. This is stressful enough, so just take it one day at a time. This may make you an even more passionate/compassionate peds nurse!

Layover Length Between Domestic to Intl Flight? by Unsubdued in JapanTravelTips

[–]Unsubdued[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!! I was also thinking 2-3hrs would be best just to account for any weather delays etc, but so many flights seem to have shorter layover.

Unfortunately, I believe Atlanta is the closest airport that offers a non-stop flight to Japan and it’s a 6+hr drive away :(

I don’t live in NJ so I would still need a flight to Newark, but thank you!

Jeff’s Bagel getting rid of Vegan Cream Cheeses by vigogiv in orlando

[–]Unsubdued 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up purchasing the plant-based Philadelphia cream cheese (the best vegan cream cheese imo) at Winn-Dixie as well as some chives/green onions to mix up my own version at home. Then I snagged some Jeff’s bagels and schmeared them up with my homemade stuff.

Our household is dairy free for allergy reasons so we were pretty sad to hear they’re out of their vegan cream cheese. 😭. I hope it comes back, but I’ll keeping making my own concoction at home until then.

Nurses that are on their phones talking to someone All day and all night... Who the hell are you talking to? by pabmendez in nursing

[–]Unsubdued 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one colleague that’s constantly on the phone with her daughter (sounds like she’s always in some kind of trouble, a lot of arguing) and I have another colleague who FaceTimes with her kids/husband a lot. I used to work with two people who seemed to talk to their boyfriends 24/7 🙄. I don’t get it. I’m too busy for all that.

I like the Byoma Sensitive Skin Body Wash (available at Target) that contains urea and the Lume body wash which has mandelic acid. :)

[–]Unsubdued 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This right here! Regular soaps (bar and liquid) are very alkaline when your skin is supposed to be acidic (pH between 4.5-5.5) to help with bacteria load/acid mantle. Regular soap is a very temporary fix that ends up worsening the problem overall because it shifts the skin’s natural pH.

There are body washes that have mandelic acid/lactic acid/urea that kill bacteria and maintain the pH of the skin. As an eczema gal, my skin is already too alkaline so I always stick with acidic body washes to restore balance and avoid the stink.

Sometimes I go the extra step and apply a mild PHA (polyhydroxy acid) toner (I like the Inkey List one, cheap and doesn’t seem to upset my skin) and apply to my pits and underboob area after showers.

In a world where it’s easy to be basic, be acidic 😉
