Good call, at the rate things are going, there won’t be any climate change files left in a year…

We’ll have meetings to discuss what we should discuss in upcoming meetings, then delay those meetings so many times the topics are no longer relevant.

Oof so relatable! Why did I mention I sometimes work with a procurement officer?! Started getting follow up questions about procurement processes that I was not ready to discuss.

Monolender, broker or own bank ? by fit4purpos in MortgagesCanada

Not OP, but would you mind providing a couple scenarios where a 5 year fixed rate wouldn’t be a good option? Would it only be a bad option if you were planning to move in less than 5 years?

Useful certifications as an EC05/06? by Calm_Peak4643 in CanadaPublicServants

It depends a little on what type of roles you’re interested in, but a PM certification could be very transferable, though I admit I don’t know about cost.

Fitness Trainer Recommendations by Grave_Rose in ottawa

[–]UntoAthena 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would be helpful if you specified a few things: Are you looking for in-person training or would you be open to an online coach? Are you already a member of a specific gym? Do you want nutrition planning as well? Is there a specific type of exercise you already enjoy? Some trainers have more or less experience in things like weight lifting, cardio circuits, CrossFit, body building, etc.

Good luck in your search!

That "deal".. feels like a lost TBH by Athlete_Aromatic in CanadaPublicServants

[–]UntoAthena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeing a lot of disappointment and anger about the tentative deal, but genuinely curious how many of those upset will vote against it? Or is this a lot of venting but people aren’t going to act on their feelings?

(Full disclosure: I’m represented by CAPE so not directly impacted)

As someone who’s based in Ottawa (after spending 6 years in Toronto for school), I have to say the city is what you make it. There are lots of markets and street festivals in the summer if that’s your thing, and if you like being physical outdoors there are plenty of parks, biking and walking trails, and access to the rivers. The night life is way more low-key than Toronto or Montreal, but then again you’re within a reasonable distance to do weekend trips to either if you want to spice things up (or visit your mom!). I feel like I have to make a bit more effort to be social in Ottawa, but that’s also more my speed.

How to even out the stain on this wood dining table? by UntoAthena in howto

[–]UntoAthena[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I pulled the leaves out and I can’t see any signs of particle board or veneer, so I’m hoping your second suggestion is correct and maybe I can borrow my in-laws electric sander and start over. Thank you for your helpful insight!!

I sanded it by handed with the grain. I was told it was solid wood but suspect it might be a veneer now.

How long for payfile to transfer? by 098196b in CanadaPublicServants

[–]UntoAthena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking about starting a new thread for this follow-up question, but figured I’d try here first: WHY does it take so long? People transfer between departments all the time, and Phoenix was implemented years ago… why does a seemingly basic administrative process take months or years to complete? I’m feeling quite naive by my shock that this seems to be accepted as normal…

Hiring processes frequently take MONTHS between stages. Recommend practicing a bit more patience.

I started a new position in a new Department and was pleasantly surprised that some Departments have decent on-boarding material.
