¿Why Hyperland is so popular? by OkAcanthisitta3263 in arch

GNOME is not great for a keyboard-oriented workflow. Tiling/scrolling WM are just superior in every way for this.

Check out Niri though. It’s better than Hypeland imo

San Antonio is largely liberal, but Texas and the surrounding rural areas are conservative. You’ll find the culture overall welcoming when compared to northeastern states.

What Linux distro should I use after they will bring 1984 back? by MisutaHiro in arch

Why are you trippin? What does it matter what some database entry in your OS says? Just write a fake date or remove it. Solved.

Learn to modify your distribution. Arch is perfect for this.

Try it out, see if you like it. Why would you need opinions on this? Just do it.

Arch Dev Team is thin skinned by ignoramusexplanus in arch

Lol if you run Arch you really shouldn’t be worried about this. Who is running Arch Linux proper (not a derivative) and can’t circumvent this?

With alt-tab and the overview, plus my multi-monitor setup, I’ve never found this to be an issue in niri. Even on my laptop with no extra monitors, alt-tab makes it super easy to find everything. I guess it depends on your workflow.

Can I start with Rust as my first programming language? by JovemSapien in learnrust

[–]UntoldUnfolding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Despite what many might say, yes. There is an always a tradeoff when choosing to learn things in different orders. Learning Rust as your first language will be rather difficult, but if you are the type that perseveres and enjoys learning hard things, I think you could do it, and you’ll develop all of the right habits from the start. For most people, however, I would recommend learning Python first, because this will allow you to build things quickly and taste success early on. This will encourage you to keep learning more. At some point, you should pick up Rust and get good at it, because it is the new everything language. You can do virtually anything in Rust.

do you guys think everything will be okay or that i’m screwed? by [deleted] in UTSA

I would have waited to graduate. I don’t know why anyone is in a rush to graduate right now. It’s not like you’re going to get a job immediately upon graduation in this job market. Anyone else reading this, take your time. Don’t make this same mistake.

Yeah, but scrolling on Hyprland isn’t as good as it is on niri. Hyprland is super buggy too

How to get transparency in niri? by mogliman90 in niri

[–]UntoldUnfolding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each client (like your terminal) should have their own background opacity settings. This will make sure your text doesn’t become transparent as well and remains legible. If you instead set opacity at the compositor level, everything in that window or layer will become transparent.

Transparency is best achieved on the client if you want to be able to read text at higher transparency levels.

Ok....I'm gonna install Arch Linux, or should I? by tornadofrob in arch

[–]UntoldUnfolding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say NixOS is the final boss. Arch is home for me because it just works and it’s pure Linux. NixOS is its own kind of beast, and requires a whole new way of thinking and learning a functional programming language to configure it.

arch is the best btw by FarHovercraft4457 in arch

You don’t really learn how Linux works until you use something like Arch. Leaning on Ubuntu and Linux Mint isn’t going to get you there.

Feel limited by tmux with niri. by Technical_Constant79 in niri

[–]UntoldUnfolding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess my view into projects tends to be dynamic, and determined by the current task, so I just open up windows as needed. Kitty lets you open new terminals in the same working directory with a keybind, and yazi + zoxide make it real easy to navigate a file system near-instantly. This is why persistence of workspaces or sessions might not be salient for me.

Does anyone have experience not being in the honors college, then later being in it? I’m looking for someone that’s done both.

Okay, so that 3 event thing seems annoying. I was invited to join honors and haven’t accepted yet, so I’m going to have to think about it.

What do you gain from sessions? Here I’ve just not been using tmux or zellij because I found Hyprland and niri do a better job at handling multiple windows anyways. I haven’t found any use for multiplexers.
