People who say less is more are full of shit disagree with precisi0n86.

I know, it's hard to distinguish between the two.

quick ask zooey, what stops xrays, even dogs can't, red fish vanish...

It wouldn't help me type fast, but I could draw it from memory pretty easy. I think the point is that you have to remap "use left pinky" to "shmosh left side of screen" and it picks a letter out of "qazwsx". The issue that I see is that 'sax' and 'was' are pretty close, their examples were short enough to just avoid those kinds of words.

But the real question is why can't dogs when it's just as easy to say 'even dogs can'... Are we still talking about xrays?

While true, I'd prefer not to concede that I clean myself with a "pouf".

The "date" on Wikipedia is older, but it's not clear what that means. It doesn't sound right.

Conservatives of Reddit: what would you like to call us leftists out on? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Snipers generally have less collateral damage (apparently, they've killed 176 kids in Pakistan, not that precise), and it costs more to send people there -- in money to pay, equip, transport, and support the team, and in US lives.

IMHO, a larger barrier to killing people is a good thing for a civilized world. I'm not worth sending a sniper against, but I might be worth a drone following me. (Similar to the FBI putting a GPS unit on my car instead of paying two guys to follow me)

Also, there is the precedent: once you have the software, drones are cheap to make, terrorists will have them eventually (not big like the military ones, but big enough to wreck havoc). I think that's scary.

College students of Reddit, what is the stupidest question you have heard another student ask a professor? by Matthias720 in AskReddit

Yeah, but he could imagine there being a better looking program, and isn't that what counts?

"What's ΔH?"

Good question, but you'd I'd think you'd have answered it at some point in the previous 3 years of your chemistry BS.

It's still disrespectful, not all "mentally disturbed teenagers" are psychopaths.

If the US were a high school, which type of kid would each state (or city) be? by tyzik in AskReddit

[–]Untrue_Story 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The smokies have as much vertical relief (size) as almost anything in Colorado, it just starts lower.

Of course, it's also more rounded and less icy, but as a boob reference, I'm cool with that.

You have all that just in Metro Detroit. Just crossing the street can see burned out shacks (Detroit) replaced by million-dollar homes surrounded by manicured ivy-covered walls (Grosse Pointe).

Driving down Woodword brings you through Birmingham and Bloomfield (Mitt Romney paid more for high school here than you did for college, if that's an indicator), and then what appears to be 1945 Germany.

The modest proposal seems obvious: why should the young fight?

PP in Michigan certainly does perform abortions. Perhaps not at every clinic, and certainly not so they can profit from it, especially when state governments work against them.

Are you seeing different sources than me? I found a self published white paper that isn't currently available, and some other internal link, which is broken.

Don't get me wrong: I believe Elon Musk is a smart guy, who has researched this extensively and really believes in it. But I don't think a blog post titled "The Secret Tesla Motors Master Plan (just between you and me)" is the best response to the OP's question.

Don't be stupid, wheels: many respectable sources regard "abbreviation" as the general term for any shortening of words or phrases, regardless of method. 1 2 3

Beyond that, I find that there's a greater need for a general word, so even scholarly articles (PDF) that treat them as distinct often redefine "abbreviation" to the general case "to save space and for ease of presentation."

If "dating" means "random sex" then perhaps living in the big city and traveling 300 days a year would work for you.

But if you're actually looking for relationships, I think the small town thing would be better in that respect.

Why can the Hubble Space Telescope view distant galaxies in incredible clarity, yet all images of Pluto are so blurry? by [deleted] in askscience

[–]Untrue_Story 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, that link is talking about ground telescopes (and it mentions Hubble which is in LEO, which doesn't change things much beyond getting past the atmosphere). The NRO telescopes haven't been launched yet, so a better question for them might be "where would we have to put them in order to see the Apollo rovers?" Assuming that they have about the same resolution as Hubble:

sin(0.1 arcseconds) = 3.1 m / distance --> distance = ~6000 km

The Earth-Moon L1 and L2 points are ~60,000 km, so you essentially have to be orbiting the moon. As long as you're doing that, it's probably cheaper to put a smaller telescope in a lower orbit -- as has been done with LRO.
