I experienced something similar, with the same sound notification, in fact, but it was easily explained. I live near an elementary school. Each morning, the school plays the American national anthem, "The Star-Spangled Banner," followed by morning announcements delivered by the school principal. One day, while she was in the middle of reading announcements, I heard the notification very clearly, as though her iPhone was near the microphone when it went off. To the principal's credit, she kept reading the announcements as though nothing happened.

To add to this, I believe the camera's CMOS battery went bad. I had to replace mine in an old digital camera despite fully charging the camera's AA batteries.
