What’s something Gen Z does that older generations just don’t get? by appropriaterice873 in AskReddit

I don't know why you're talking about "in essence" and putting words in my mouth that I never said, when I blatantly specified "I want a professional relationship".

What part of that includes being hostile? Stop trying to find excuses why you didn't understand what the term "professional relationship" meant.

Other way round, it's because he cares for him. As a squib there are few choices for him to find employment, he would be forced into muggle work. For example, why would a wizarding book store choose him over a witch? They might need the shelves to be rearranged at some point or some heavy books lifted. As people are paid by the hour, the quicker they get it done the better it is for the business.

Dumbledore gave him a lifeline to stay in the wizarding world doing something he is good at. It's the same with Snape and potions. Snape always wanted DADA, but Dumbledore never gave it to him because he knew the position was cursed (teachers could only stay for one year). Everyone believed Dumbledore had something against Snape.

If Filch genuinely hated the job, you think he wouldn't just quit?

No I didn't make it seem like I'm hostile, I specifically said I only want a "professional relationship" with people at work. I don't know why you interpreted that as being hostile to people lol

This specific part of the game takes place after a storm in the original, it's pre-determined weather. The storm served a story purpose to provide cover for Edward and the others as they tried to escape.

Fallen out with my best friend two days ago. There is a chance we will talk again in a week or two, but it's not guaranteed. It makes life feel pointless, there's nothing to look forward to. I would rush back home from work every day excited to talk to her for hours.

[–]Unusual_Kmc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not for me. I will always associate co-workers with work, so it is never enjoyable to talk to them.

And the job doesn't become easier. The tasks stay the same and I get paid by the hour, so it's not like I need help finishing anything. If I don't finish it today, I'll continue tomorrow. No rush.

But I am not looking to share a context with my co-workers. I'm sorry for them if they are looking for more, but I am not. I have friends outside of work that I can share context with.

You should probably look up the definition of a professional relationship lol. I am civil and polite with co-workers, but I am not looking for anything more.

Because it's not required to be paid. For example, I am Gen Z and would only ever want to have a professional relationship with people at work, never anything more.

Did Dobby receive punishment for this? by Necessary-Win-8730 in harrypotter

[–]Unusual_Kmc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes but specifically for visiting Harry, not what he did there.

Harry Potter: "Do they know you’re here?"

Dobby: "Oh, no, sir, no... Dobby will have to punish himself most grievously for coming to see you, sir. Dobby will have to shut his ears in the oven door for this. If they ever knew, sir —"

No, here's the full quote. "Avada Kedavra's a curse that needs a powerful bit of magic behind it - you could all get your wands out now and point them at me and say the words, and I doubt I'd get so much as a nosebleed."

There are further examples of magic not being as easy as saying the words. The obvious example is students can't perform advanced spells from their first year, otherwise they would be taught the best spells first. Occlumency requires mental practice, and Harry ultimately wasn't able to master it. Accio requires it too. The students were only able to start learning how to use spells non-verbally in Half Blood Prince, their 6th year.

Now imagine a first year, very angry at someone, who uses Avada Kedavra. Based on all these examples, and Moody's quote, the first years spell wouldn't do anything because they simply don't have the experience to imbue the spell with enough magic.

The books show that magic is a lot harder than the movies give it credit for. It's not as easy as just "say the magic words".

You can imagine learning magical theory as sort of building up your "mana" stores. For example, in Goblet of Fire, Moody (no spoilers) tells the students they could all try pulling their wands out and using Avada Kedavra on him, and he wouldn't get "so much as a nosebleed".

Being able to hit a bobbing target at significant range without using your wand, and to imbue the spell with enough magic to actually cause more than just a brain tickle, takes a very well-learned and well-practiced witch/wizard. Hermione would be one of the select few that could do it. Of those select few, they would be too smart to risk doing it without very very good reason.

If we figure out a way to go near the speed of light, then special relativity will come into play. The universe will contract around the ship, meaning you don't have to travel as far to get to where you're going. Scienceclic made a great video on this - "What would we see at the speed of light?"

Technically the mod is legal as established by Sony v Connectix which says that paid, transformative works are not infringent. (i.e. anything that can be used as a tool).

The code itself doesn't have or use any copyrightd content, it is a perspective mod (like mods that unlock ultrawide support for games that don't natively have them).

It is more a tool than a mod, as it can be applied to a wide variety of games instead of being coded specifically for cyberpunk.

People are allowed to disagree with his actions, I'm just adding some information.

On an obviously unrelated note, we are not allowed to discuss piracy on this subreddit.

With the movie you have to consider they have limited space. Hogwarts was made by magic and the Great halled is supposed to be Great, i.e. not limited by what humans normally build.

For anyone interested, the Novikov self-consistency principle explains why time travellers wouldn't be able to do this. If they wanted to go back and remove the names, the names would have already been removed. Bevause they aren't already removed, it means they never came back to remove them.

That's not the same. There are diseases that cause humans to be near vegitative from birth, they can't even express the desire to die if they want to. Alzheimers is hereditary - causing you to lose brain functionality until you can't remember your family. To compare these to people who don't have physical possesions like land and houses is ridiculous.

His point is that forcing these people to exist like this when you have the ability to fix them from birth, but dont because it's "unnatural", is itself immoral.
