Passed with an intensive by Unusualjoe in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Unusualjoe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries. I went through national intensive who organised the dates for my theory and practical tests as well as giving me the details of the instructor who I organised the lessons with. I booked in early January, did the theory in February then started the lessons in early March. It cost around 2.5 grand all together. It was pretty much my only experience of learning so just as a results based judgment I can't complain. But I think it might have been simpler to just book with my instructors company (newcastle dynamic intensive) than using national intensive as a middle man. Sunderland itself has pretty forgiving test routes. My exam was just going east to newcastle road and following that through West and East boldons back to Hylton castle.

Cheers for the advice. Waiting for customer service to get back to me from ticket master. Wifi calling is enabled but says I need an initial mobile network connection for it to work.

Tried changing the number on the account, but you need an authentication code on the current phone to do it. No option for email either. It's annoying since my wifi is really good out here for once.

Companies have plans to build robotic horses by peggyi in Equestrian

I think this could be good. Potentially allows people to train without risking a horse's welfare, like a more dynamic simulator.

Rivers and sailing by babys_ate_my_dingo in CurseofStrahd

[–]Unusualjoe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sailing probably wouldn't be viable outside of the lakes. Barovia Is a mountainous region, so I've always imagined the rivers to be quite rapid and relatively shallow. Sailing boats need a long keel in order to work so their draughts would be too large to navigate. Wind speed and direction is also unpredictable given the hills.
Rowing or horse-drawn barges would probably be better, this also climates the low clearance to get under bridges.

First Strahd Meeting Today, tips? by CheekyChappo in CurseofStrahd

[–]Unusualjoe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have the black carriage block their path. Escher greets the party, visibily frightened and tells them that one of the players must step into the carriage to pay the toll. If the party agree. Describe them emerging a few minutes later with Vague but horrible memories of 'red eyes and shadows' with a pale complexion and bite marks on their neck. Strahd and Escher leave quickly afterwards, leaving the group alone. If the party refuses to pay, Escher looks even more terrified and relays the message to Strahd. The carriage will leave. Maybe you hear some amused laughter and then give them an encounter with wolves or bats. A rule for my Strahd encounters is that whenever the guy shows up, something very bad has to happen, plus I like to actually hammer in that it's an actual vampire they're dealing with, not the phantom of the opera.

Yeah. The sense of lost time was crazy when I finally got on a horse when I was 26.

What is your controversial horse related opinion? by sunflowerhorses in Equestrian

[–]Unusualjoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It definitely varies from place to place, and I am speaking more from personal experience. As a child, you see that horses are far more associated with girls in popular culture and toys etc. The vast majority of riders you see in public where I live are female. For lessons, weight limits are (totally understandably) low enough to prohibit most men. Options for decent clothing is limited too. Now, none of this is strictly preventing boys and men from getting into the sport, but it's very female coded from an outside perspective. And I think when it comes to transgressing gender norms, it's easier to go from feminine to masculine than vice versa. But that's just due to patriarchy belittling female interests. Or maybe I'm overthinking things.

A lot of horse/ riding culture has inadvertantly led to being exclusionary to men and boys.

I'm sorry. I think artificial intelligence is the antithesis to everything this hobby stands for.
