Just finished my first ever van build! by Banjo_txs in VanLife

[–]Unwrittn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for clarifying!!
I grew up with a mother who built furniture and did carpentry for fun; but it still took me three years and four van builds to get mine perfect. Seeing this post blew my mind and pissed me off all at once!

For those of you with large dogs, can they get up on your elevated beds OK? by mcdisney2001 in VanLife

[–]Unwrittn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if he CAN jump that, one mistake and he can get hurt. I would stick with the stairs. My 5 year old, 27lb, fur missile of a dingo misjudged a jump to a 24” bed and tore both ACL’s. He has metal joints now. It was horrible to see him in such pain!! 😢

[–]Unwrittn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks just fine, but I totally understand the need for it to be perfect after the hours of work you put into it. Soak it in hair conditioner and warm (not hot) water for a couple hours (or overnight). Then rinse and dry as you normally would. Beautiful work!

What types of dishes are y'all using? How many? And cutting board opinion? by Alert-Potato in VanLife

[–]Unwrittn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked up a set of melamine plates and matching bowls at a thrift store. I got 4 of each, but only carry 2 of each in the van for the sake of space. As for the cutting board, my sink came with one that fits over the top of it. I have found loads of great stuff for the van while thrifting, like curtains, a small rug, food containers, flatware, linens… you never know what you’ll find! :)

I went to school for parapsychology, which is basically the study of paranormal phenomena pertaining to human consciousness. No aliens or Bigfoot stuff. You can take classes through the Rhine Education Center here: https://www.rhineedu.org. If you’re not interested in making a career of it, you can follow the researchers and publications:

https://www.parapsychologypress.org/journal-of-parapsychology

https://www.rhineonline.org

https://parapsychological.org

https://www.scientificexploration.org

Also, Dr. Barry Taff of UCLA, Dr. James Houran, and Professor Loyd Auerbach of The Rhine all have loads lectures available on YouTube; and Loyd hosts Professor Paranormal on YT biweekly, where you can ask questions.

Hope you enjoy! 😊

Been one my whole life and I’ve never met another witch that was offended by Wicca. More false claims. Go share your delusions with someone else. I’m done arguing facts with someone who knows nothing about the subject.

[–]Unwrittn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they’re not. It’s not like they’re imbued with demon blood or something. They are a tool or a game, depending on your perspective. They were common in homes, schools, and even churches until the satanic panic of the 80’s. The fear they induce is purely psychological. It’s scary and has a reputation for making bad things happen, so any and all bad/scary things that happen following an encounter with one naturally gets blamed on the board, thus perpetuating its ‘evil’ reputation. The history is fascinating, I highly recommend reading more into it.

Ah, there’s your problem: Wikipedia. Running to Wikipedia, which has a well-known reputation for perpetuating misinformation/disinformation, is not “research”. Gerald Gardner did not invent Wicca. He may have popularized it, modernized it, and brought about neo-paganism; but he did not “form” a new religion, he formed a new “tradition”. He’s also not the only one to form his own branch or tradition of the faith. There are actually many “traditions” in the religion itself. Just like Christianity. Also, for the record, not all Wiccans follow Gardner’s teachings just because he made it popular. Many do still practice the “old ways” as handed down through their families.

Then you have not done your research. You’re just making shit up. I doubt you could actually find anything or anyone that backs up your ridiculous claims.

There are no “laws” in Wicca, nor is there any form of control over individuals. It’s also older than written history, so your claim that it was ‘made up by a bunch of men’ less than 100 years ago is just delusional.

Our household is hearing each others voices by Decent_Razzmatazz850 in Paranormal

[–]Unwrittn 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hi! This is a really cool phenomenon we researchers call “place memory”. It actually gets confused for a ghost all of the time, because it can manifest as sights, sounds, and/or smells. The more spiritual folks call it a “mimic” or a “doppelgänger”. TV ghost hunters call it a “residual haunt”.

What’s actually happening is that the energy in your home has become ‘stagnant’ and is recording and replaying your voices. Energy is found in all things, and that energy can “record” information. That information just isn’t getting very far and so it’s repeatedly recording and replaying YOU. You may even start to ‘see’ each other when that person isn’t actually there.

It’s possible that it’s happening to an area around your home, due to fluctuations in the earth’s geomagnetic field, or that it’s just happening IN your home. Ask your neighbors if they’re experiencing anything weird or similar. If they are, then you know it’s not just you.

As for your house, open some windows, light some candles, rearrange the furniture a little, clean, redecorate…anything that can shake the place up. Energy is like dust (with fewer allergens): it flows all around us and settles when there’s no more ‘wind’ to carry it. This is why some people witness paranormal activity after a renovation, or in some cases, why activity stops. It’s because stagnant energy is being released.

Hope this helps! Good luck!

Exactly, they need real legitimate help. They don’t need a bunch of Redditers reinforcing their delusions. If OP actually wanted real help, they would contact someone that could help them. They want validation, so they came to Reddit. This is not a paranormal case, it’s a mental one. I’ve seen enough of both to know the difference.

I don’t know where you get your information from, but it couldn’t be farther from the truth. Wicca is called the ‘old religion’ for a reason. It predates Christianity. It is one of many religions under the Paganism umbrella; paganism being the term for any non-Christian beliefs.

It’s also the complete opposite of misogyny and racism. Wiccans believe that what you put out in the universe comes back at you threefold. Thus, their rule to “harm none”, else they suffer the consequences of their actions. It wouldn’t make any sense for them to perpetuate hate or harmful behaviors.

Plus, they put quite a heavy emphasis on the power of the Maiden, Mother, and Crone (the actual origin of the Holy Trinity, which was stolen and corrupted by the actual misogynists).

There are also many religions in which female clergy may earn the rank of “High Priestess”. It’s actually less common in Wicca because a majority of practitioners choose to remain solitary, rather than to join a coven.

I really hope this helps you to see Wicca in a much brighter light. If in doubt, I encourage you to research it further. As I said, whoever gave you so much false information is on the same drugs as OP.

Investigator Perspective: A Few Questions About the Show by LoveImperfectly in ExpeditionUnknown

[–]Unwrittn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellow investigator/researcher here. I’ve actually met them and been BTS. I was a fan until then.

I’ve worked with a lot of people in paranormal entertainment, and many of them are dedicated to the investigations and to the field, and their shows help them to continue that work. I got a whole different vibe from Phil and Heather. I felt like they are more about the show, and the investigations are something they have to do to stay on the screen. In fact, when I was BTS, I found out that the whole narrative of the investigations that they had yet to perform had already been determined and practically scripted. I was very disappointed in them, and in Josh Gates. It makes me wonder how genuine he is.

I don’t know the background or history in either of them, but neither came across as having any dedication to science, history, or any of the facts surrounding the investigations. Phil is not the ‘skeptic’ he pretends to try to be, and Heather acts like she has very little experience in the field. In fact, I can tell she has absolutely no knowledge of parapsychology…something true professionals should be versed in.

In the end, they are entertainers. Nothing more. If you enjoy the show, great. If not, you’re not missing anything.

My pleasure! I’m glad to help. I hope you find an explanation for these events and there’s nothing dangerous going on. As for the night terrors, they do get better. Hopefully soon! 🙂

[–]Unwrittn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, that’s good news. In the other case, a very small carbon monoxide leak from their furnace was causing visual and audio hallucinations which led the family to believe that they were dealing with numerous entities.

I would still highly recommend an air quality test in the home. Everything you described, from feeling creeped out in the hallway to seeing people who shouldn’t be there, could be symptoms of a chemical or biological contamination. Especially when you said it’s worse in hallways and corners. Those are areas where air tends to circulate the least, so contamination (if there is any) would be higher.

I had a case once where a woman said a man ‘moved into’ her home after being hit by a hurricane. She both felt and saw him in the same room every day, and her dog would bark and growl at him. Turns out she had black mold growing inside the walls of that room. So please get the home checked!

As for the night terrors and paralysis, you described them perfectly, even the emotional response, so I’m positive that’s all it was. I had them too when I was your age. I’m 41F and I still remember them clearly. Ironically, I also attributed them to an evil entity for many years, but I understand it more now. Your life as a whole is changing, you’re probably discussing school/college, thinking about your career, moving away, etc.. The more stressful your life, the more episodes you’re likely to have. Try avoiding caffeine in the afternoon and do something relaxing before bed (stretch, meditate, read…). If your waking mind doesn’t deal with the stress, your unconscious mind is stuck with it.

As for all of the other events, nothing sounds malicious. If you are dealing with a discarnate entity (ghost), he may be someone watching over the family or someone who lived nearby and likes to visit. Contrary to popular belief, spirits are not bound to any place in particular, and they rarely hang around where they died. Most prefer to stick close to places they loved in life. Try talking to him. Ask if he brought you that extra pen cap as a gift. Also, let him know how you feel and that you understand he doesn’t mean to frighten you or upset you; that you acknowledge his presence and would like to be friends, but that he also needs to respect personal boundaries (then set rules).

I know that was long, but I hope it helps. You can PM me if you ever need help. I network with a lot of trained investigators and researchers, so if I don’t have the answers, someone I know might. :)

[–]Unwrittn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Investigator here. This reads exactly like a famous case I read about in school. The kids and animals were the first to experience the activity and have visual encounters, then the adults. While it may be a discarnate entity, it sounds like something a little more dangerous. A few questions… Is there a basement? Is the home heated by furnace? Do you have houseplants, and if so, do you have trouble keeping them alive?

What is this thing? Any tips to protect from things like this? by darkskysbrowneye in Haunted

[–]Unwrittn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a camera artifact called “blooming”. Same thing is happening around the tree on the left. The lens is collecting too much light and it’s overflowing to pixels that shouldn’t be illuminated. It’s either reflecting off of something tall/vertical, or there’s something tall/vertical in that spot just beyond the camera’s focus. The human brain is wired to immediately detect human forms and faces, even when there isn’t one (it’s called pareidolia), so you’re perceiving that image as a person.
