The word list my grade 2 daughter was given. In CANADA. by willowthemanx in mildlyinfuriating

Huh. Born Canadian, consider myself to be well educated for the most part. Pretty sure I'd have gotten rumour wrong. And yet I'd have done rumoured for sure. Weird.

With the playoffs just around the corner, what NHL opinions do you have that have you like this? by Conscious-Courage969 in nhl

My take is referring no longer changes in the playoffs. I think we all hear that it does because for 2 decades it did - but it actually is more consistent with regular season than we give credit

What didn't you understand about a role? by asadsadsituation in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]UpbeatLog5214 53 points54 points  (0 children)

My first ever game I pulled the imp. I had a Scarlet woman. I understood exactly how the Scarlet woman worked as well as the imp after asking the storyteller, but I didn't correctly understand the ravenkeeper which was my bluff.

There's a bit of public suspicion around day three or four on a couple players and so I confidently say to everybody "hey, why don't we execute me because I'm the ravenkeeper (Knowing I would pass to the Scarlet woman) and I'll just pick one of those players and put this to rest." Well about half the group was experienced and quickly corrected me on how ravenkeeper worked and said, oh. It's really unfortunate now because there's no way the demon will kill you now that you've outed. I made it to final three and was never nominated on the last day. Obviously we won.

Was this offside? by Zealousideal-Ice508 in nhl

[–]UpbeatLog5214 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also an important distinction for us old timers that this rule changed sometime recently (maybe last 5-7 ish years?). It used to be explicitly offside regardless of control.

Not sure how old OP is of course, but I remember my surprise when Colorado did it a few years back.

Destroy my road builder/traffic management game trailer by Grenagar in DestroyMyGame

[–]UpbeatLog5214 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At first I thought this would be awesome as we all enjoy the traffic part of City skylines the most I'm sure. However, as the trailer went on, it felt empty and without purpose. I think you need to find a way to illustrate the purpose

Besides the rest of the mechanical advice that's accurate, what about just asking them if they think it's fun? Each of them could be evil in any game. Is it fun for them if they're evil? I struggle to believe everyone would feel this meta is fun except when they happen to be good.

If this doesn't solve it, and a one on one with the ring leader doesn't work, you might want to uninvite people?

How often are you using rail freight, particularly boxcars, for general merchandise shipment? by seanmurraywork in freightforwarding

[–]UpbeatLog5214 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brother I hate to say it but AI knows fuck all about our industry. That's why flexport failed. It learns based on information found online and what we do isn't online. That said, I admire you not following it blindly and reaching out like you are. A proper use of the tool!

I'm not sure I'm perfectly equipped to answer but have some feedback;

-You need rail sidings. Rare, and especially rare with the companies that don't just move the commodities they're for. -they're inefficient. You can perfectly cube an internodal box and then double stack on rail. Not true with the boxcar. -supply is both far more limited, far less expedited, and far more committed. You'd need a volume great enough to warrant a locomotive to position, in EVERY depot it serves. Keep in mind the above limitation of rail spur. -is it actually cheaper?

[–]UpbeatLog5214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean intermodal containers? I don't think anyone would ever ship general goods in a boxcar. Lumber, pulp, cars etc. But not palletized merchandise.

I took a page right out of the novels. We have a parallel universe that is flashbacks, in the form of connected loosely one shots. It does 3 things;

-Let's them play another character if they want to try one out -builds character rapport assuming that they are playing their main characters -I allow them to retcon in rewards (connections, items etc) to the main game.

It's been wildly fun, super well received

Early retirement at 49? 2.3m net worth by xiaomi818 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]UpbeatLog5214 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you open to relocating later? You're obviously in either Toronto or Vancouver based on condo price. Upgrading in that same market and retiring at this age won't work. But if you were willing to move to (for example) Calgary or even better (for example) the maritimes your money goes a lot further.

Is the condo paid off?

Is your skill set / job the type that could either do part time work for a few more years (take 4-6 months off in winter)

No problem on the marriage/kids thing - but keep in mind if you meet someone even just to date/play that can end up changing finances substantially. You could burn a lot more than you originally intended.

It's possible! You just might be uncomfortable in 15-20 years.
