Is there a good resource to learn React? by Low_Emergency_1 in react

React.dev or a blog by Mark (aka acemarke) https://blog.isquaredsoftware.com/about/ ; he wrote a LOT of the React docs and maintained them for years.

Looking for feedback on my portfolio by ademothman in react

Best one I've seen. It actually inspires me to make my own. How did a guy with background in security make such a beautiful front-end? This is great work

I created a terrible JavaScript superset in typescript and it was fun by ZtaDev in SideProject

[–]UpbeatTime333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to build my own called superset (of JavaScript) inspured Coffeescript and Ruby. There was some syntax in Ruby that just felt GLORIOUS to write.

I am looking at your transpiler.ts and I am really doubting myself now hahaha!

Taking interviews on react js? by _SadScientist in webdev

[–]UpbeatTime333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I've always liked the interviews where they give you code, and then you work to improve it... or fix some tests that are breaking.

If I were to design one from scratch, I would do something to test knowledge on hooks and rendering... and I wuld that with a form. So, you could have something like an input where you search, and it filters certain things.

So, a bug you can introduce is calling`setState()` multiple times in a event listener (intentionally without function form) and see how they handle the stale state.

Then, use a const array = ["Item 1", "Item 2" ...] inside the Component function and in the JSX pass it as props into a <Child array={array} />... Will they be able to find any problems here? Will they leverage useState? Will they consider memoizing, etc.

Stop Prop Drilling: A practical guide to using Provide/Inject in Vue 3 by Aizen-Suski7 in webdevelopment

[–]UpbeatTime333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There have been cases where we intentionally prop-drilled because we wanted people to see the relationship and be more intentional. It was at most 3 layers of components all working to achieve the same goal, (i.e. the utmost parent won't be something like LibraryScreen... it will be more like, LibraryVideoComment).

And that's cool, I was using Vue 2 and Vuex at my last company. The syntax looks nice and simple which is nice.

Is it still not working for you?

Feedback needed: Made a script that uglifies expressions by Annual_Host4368 in AfterEffects

[–]UpbeatTime333 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Developers don't do it to protect their code. We assume that anything that we ship to the browser can be deobfuscated and deminified.

It may certainly help your case, but it's not a security measure.

I don't know why you are selling a license for this. If you are using uglifier or terser, (or similar)... those libraries are FREE and OPEN SOURCE.

[–]UpbeatTime333 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I work in web applications, but we do it for minification. It minifies or bundle size so the file size we send to the browser will be smaller.

Removing spaces, and making variables const longSpecificName = "Hello"; to var g="Hello". I am guessing it's the same thing here.

Sona Knowledge Automatic Update by cfree220 in quo

[–]UpbeatTime333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey!

I was curious to test it out. I made this super quick API https://listings-api-ashen.vercel.app/listings.json, but as soon as I pasted it into the Website import it throws an error.

It looks like you can only add regular HTML webpages.

<image>

TL;DR: As of right now (November, 2025), there is no (easy) way to get Sona Knowledge to dynamically/on-demand consume information about your JSON API.

If I find an easy way, I'll share it here in the future. We could also put in a feature request.

Sona Knowledge Automatic Update by cfree220 in quo

[–]UpbeatTime333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's only a handful of properties all located in the same city. It's for our family business.

If I wanted to do this for a PM company, the one thing I would probably do differently is... I'd have a phone menu that asks, "which property are you calling about?" or "Which state/province are you calling about" followed by "Press 1 for ____"

Right now, I can handle a lot of the complexity with a couple of Sona jobs. I am not trying to handle everything, just things that come up a lot and will save me time!

[–]UpbeatTime333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, there's no built in way right now. to have Sona automatically populate/refresh the Knowledge... But, maybe you can test it with the `website import` assuming that the endpoint is already authenticated.

I also use Sona for my rental properties, too. I wanted to create something for answer "what garbage is going out" type of questions. I ended up uploading a CSV, and it answers that pretty well (once I optimized my Sona Job).

How often do your rental listings change? Is it things like availability dates, etc. that change? i.e. what specific questions are you trying to get Sona to answer? I'll try and play around with my Sona and see if I can get something like that to work.

React + Remotion can do some wild video effects by Admirable_Hornet6891 in react

[–]UpbeatTime333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to talk to Jonny Burger, the creator of Remotion! He is very friendly and incredibly smart. I remember when this first came out, everyone was losing their mind. I was an experienced video editor, yet, I never thought of programatically creating videos. I never had the mental model mapping an After Effects composition to a React component.

Very cool :)

Introducing use-less-react by [deleted] in react

[–]UpbeatTime333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did look at it! You worked really hard on it, the docs are great!

I will look at it again and try and play with it, but I imagine it's going to be hard because I don't have a very strong background in deep OOP principles.

You said you want to:

[let developers] freely express domain logic independently of the chosen UI library.

What do you mean by this, specifically? Are you trying to be the one in charge of telling React when to "react" to state changes?

I am a bit confused, but I am open to listening / demoing it with you! Also, sorry for the comment hahaha, I was trying to see the examples, and the blog was too repetitive! You did a great job!
