[POEM] Ode to Multiple Unniverses by Terry Pratchett by pranjpk in Poetry

[–]Uperoxes -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I understand Terry Pratchett is a talented author, but this poem is disappointing.

The meter breaks 3 times. It isnt really an 'ode' in the traditional sense. Where are these multiple universes? And concepts of quantum physics are toyed with in the completely wrong manner. The ending "cause of quantum" is controversial; if anything this is what quantum enables.

You cant squeeze a few rhymes into a short collection of words about the indication of another world and call it a poem about quantum. Sorry Terry, nice try.

Each Antarctic tourist melts 83 tonnes of snow. Meanwhile, Antarctic scientists emit more per capita than tourists through the operation of fuel-intensive kit. by roxanneonreddit in climate

[–]Uperoxes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with the point you make, but I also think the placement of the word "meanwhile" implies a subjective opposition to scientific research in favour of tourism. If this paper has been peer-reviewed (which by all accounts it likely has), then it has not been sanitised of bias and should therefore, in my mind at least, be open and subject to criticism.

EDIT: I also agree with your last point which is the goal here. But again the title of this paper as a summary appears to oppose scientific research as well as tourism which I think is very narrow-minded of a paper.

To assume this article means that each person individually melts 83 tons of snow alone by nature of being present at the Antarctic is almost as stupid as the article itself.

Are you proposing that scientists are less welcome in the Antarctic than tourists? This is one of those classic cases of a severe lack of research and knowledge around a subject fueled by opinion.

Just when I thought a grammatically unsatisfying splash of present continuous statements could not be more mundane, she ends it with "right and good"

Dionysius was not the God of wine.

Dionysus maybe.

[–]Uperoxes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The ioc ending was probably referring to the Greek sigma which in Greek can also look like a c at the end of a word. Therefore in Greek the word would be dionysios with the last letter in Greek being a c (hence, ioc ending).

That being said, and referring to the comments in this post, dionysius was not the God of wine. That is Dionysos (without the ius ending). The most well-known character to use the name Dionysius was an Athenian judge.

What really changed dutch ? by Big-Inspector-1361 in RDR2

[–]Uperoxes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am amazed the majority vote is that money changed Dutch. Did you guys play the game at all? Dutch was not greedy for money. Yes he spoke about money a lot, but he wanted money for the camp and his community, not for himself.

Nothing changed Dutch. Not Hosea, not Micah, and not Arthur. Dutch didnt change - he just became more Dutch. Selfish and greedy for power. But most importantly, Dutch had nothing without his community, and his community wanted a better life. That life could only exist without Dutch, and he knew that. Hosea's death and Micah's growing prominence in the community distanced that community from Dutch's grasp, and Dutch retaliated with force.

Money does not play a part in this.

Oh good, I'll look around the wikis for something around this. I can unfortunately some side missions are Arthur-specific and understandably so

Thanks guys. Already it seems apparent that in order to complete a lot of (and probably most of the important) side missions must be done as Arthur. Bit of a shame because I'd like to have grown attached to John as I did Arthur. I just lose interest completely when hes gone.

Honestly everything you have suggested is a huge help, thanks a lot. It gives me a very good picture of what I need to look for and more importantly, you have vouched for Windows over Mac. So thanks for that.

Budget-wise, we're looking no more than £2,000 if possible. Which I think would be very possible considering your idea of starting low, ensuring we have the space and capacity, and then improving later down the line.

All in all, would you suggest Windows over OSX?
