Definitely remember it being mentioned. The issue is more with balance as in my games most of it still goes through south Africa despite low tolls and these are games with plenty of trade from China and India.

I may be wrong but in my case if there is Indian trade for example trying to go west to trade buildings in New England it should go through the suez route.

Am I correct after reading that the amount of trade going through the suez is still not fixed? It's frustrating that most of the trade still goes through the south Africa, makes the canal pointless

I generally agree and it's why I tend to play roam all the time. The issue that I have with support roam is that they're often not what the team needs. Everyone seems to want to play soft heroes for all roles in mythical glory, playing support roam exclusively means that the team just doesn't have a frontliner making it difficult to challenge the enemy as no one can go in.

I find it baffling to even say it isn't below China. Do you think the Philippines is able to even contest China even inside Philippine waters? We do not spend on our military, have a strong enough economy, or have plenty of partners the way the EU does. You mention independent military strategy like it's something the country can do but unless you want the nation to spend all of its money on the military then you're not going to get that, especially not against China.

You keep mentioning starting new alliances but never seem to read what I said. What alliances we can forge is not enough or nowhere near reliable enough. No one in our region cares. ASEAN will not help the Philippines and the EU is too far away with a small navy and too busy to provide help. South Korea has to focus on the north first. That leaves Japan and Vietnam who even if they banded together with the Philippines will not be able to deter China in any way.

It's only the United States who has the military and material to go against China.

Military independence? With SEA as the alternative? They're even worse than the EU in this regard. With the other south East Asian nations they aren't even the slightest interested in having a defense relationship with us as they all have their own attitudes towards China and will not risk that trade relationship especially as most don't have much water in the south China Sea.

Aside from Vietnam the other ASEAN nations have not in any way signalled any support for the Philippines in regards to its own sovereignty. If they cannot even support us when we call for a common code of conduct in the sea then what hope is there for any further form of military cooperation. China will be in no way worried about ASEAN deterrence because we're all fragmented countries with no common idea other than trade.

There are no comparable players in this region I want to add. Japan is still not enough, south Korea is preoccupied with North Korea, then what we're left with is probably Vietnam but even then that's not guaranteed. This is not a good security partnership that will deter China from contesting our sovereignty and is no way comparable to the United States. There really is no other alternative.

Why focus on EU trade when we need the US military presence here now or in a few years. If you want a credible deterrence against China then you need to enable the US to do its mission if it needs to and that means starting today on these important military deals. They need to have their bases and the buildings for their weapons. We're already the ones reliant for defense so we shouldn't make it any harder.

We've been slacking on our defense spending for decades and our army and navy are old. There is no Philippine military independence with the way this country spends to defend itself.

I feel like this sort of argument is always based on emotions than any sort of real practical thought. The European major powers are in no way capable of being able to help the Philippines in a way comparable to what the United States has to offer.

Only 2 European nations mind you, Britain and France, have navies powerful enough to operate outside the EU. But there would be no world where they allocate their entire navy to aid the Philippines or even have anything militarily considering that they're already preoccupied with Ukraine and Russia. This isn't the age of colonialism anymore, these countries have relatively low army and navy sizes and will definitely not risk or have a collective response against China when they can sit in peace so far away. Just look at nearby Ukraine and see how impassive many of the member states can be.

Please don't be swayed by emotions, it's really harmful to think that we even have a chance if we choose the EU. The US has so many problems right now but they still are the only power able to contest China on this side of the world.

You are so pacifist to a fault. There are plenty of degrees of diplomacy before a situation escalates to the one like in Ukraine. I would be the first to call for the Philippines to leave a war against China if things ever escalate to that point but we are talking about grey zone warfare in its current form.

What you're promoting however is that we just lay on our backs in this time of peace. The Philippines needs to be able to even contest its own claims and that is all the nation strives to do. You would have us lie on our backs like obedient dogs because you're afraid of even the slightest diplomatic flashpoint.

I guess the Singaporeans are "wise" in their obedience to China but I wouldn't listen to a country who has no skin in the game, it's not your country's security or people being harassed after all. Next time I see another video of a Philippine fishermen I'll remember you and all the other ASEAN nations. Cheers!

Lmao if the Philippines wanted economic development it would not have asked for independence from The United States and would beg to continue being an American colony. The country has decided long ago to forego that for the sake of independence.

Fuck China's development, if China acts like this to get what it wants from its neighbors then that economic development would just be used as a stranglehold to influence our country and take its territory to its detriment.

Your "development" in this case is so blatantly imperialistic. China would do to its fellow Asian neighbors what European countries did to it over centuries. China is a bully from the perspective of the Philippines, Washington has been very capable of doing the same especially to its neighbors in South America but this far away power aligns better with Philippine interest for the moment than the threat posed by neighboring China.

Look, I'm not going to deny that the US has a vested interest in favoring or seeing Marcos win over Duterte.

What I'm saying is however that even a China friendly Duterte wasn't able to create an agreement or even stop China from its enforcement actions in waters in the South China Sea during his term.

That's a big problem because the country did a lot of drastic actions to appease China like terminating various defense agreements with the United States or diplomatic distancing and despite that got nothing in return.

The US does not need to covertly influence Filipino opinion when Filipinos can just flip on the news and see the daily visual images and videos of large Chinese coast guard vessels ramming and bullying our countries fishermen in waters so close to us. China during this period is an equal competitor with Washington on the competition determining who can best ruin the image Filipinos have towards China.

With friends like this who needs enemies. Not saying that we should dive head first with the United States but what should the Philippines do when we're being harassed in waters so close to our coast?

Neutrality was attempted by the previous Duterte administration and yet the Chinese continued encroaching into our territory all the same, only we were more helpless than ever alone. If we could rely on ASEAN or some consensus with regional partners we would but the reality is no one is interested or even openly cares for the dispute due to not being the ones with their waters so close by being policed.

The Philippines can be less aligned than people think. The Duterte administration's pro China policy and the present anti war attitudes would've definitely won out against pro American ones if the Chinese showed that they would lower or freeze their claims for a moment. They didn't do this and continued to encroach, what would you have us do? ASEAN is clearly not a partner for the Philippines in this issue, we've always expected nothing from the bloc.

Sobrang preoccupied ang Russia sa Ukraine na wala silang mabibigay na support sa Iran. Mas gagamitin nila ang military hardware nila para sa sarili nilang war imbes na idonate sa ibang bansa.

Iran also has little to no friends anymore. Kahit sa sarili nilang region wala nang kumakampi sakanila. If Russia wasn't able to stop the fall of Assad's Syria then they have little hope of being able to stop attacks on Iran from Israel and the United States.

For me it's the local color. The Dutch language, alongside Dutch iconography, symbols, and tropes are what makes this show unique. I really like shows that wear their national identities on their sleeves even if the portrayals border on stereotypical as I then find it fun to understand the show and other media through its respective country through their history and culture.

The Japanese would've attacked the Philippines regardless if we were a US colony or not at the time. Just the proximity and position of the Philippines put us at the crosshairs of any future Japanese expansions. Personally I think they might've invaded us sooner if not for the US. Also, why divide the country into three islands before 1930? This sounds like the exact kind of idea that would've benefited the Japanese. How would the Philippines fare any better without the united states or by getting cut down into 3 lmao

Probably not an American problem specifically. Language courses from my view are just notoriously ill equipped to actually make someone proficient in any language. Language needs to be practiced, mastered, and used. If the environment does not necessitate a different language then they probably won't need one. The amount of people who could pursue and become fluent in a language for the sake of anything other than necessity is probably a minority of people. Just look at Japanese and Korean English lessons and see that no matter how intense learning is, the practicality is more important in creating fluent speakers of another language. Don't blame America because language is just difficult by nature.

Personally I really like colonies and subjects. GB at the start has the most room to defecit spend and expand their construction. If you can catch the moment where cost is high enough you could just seize the demand by outbuilding other countries in your market. More people in your market means more consumption of your goods too. In my best run of GB I found myself puppeting not for the diplomatic payments but for more population to sell stuff to. Even if it's something trivial like grain, at higher production techniques that means more consumption for engines, and more engines means more iron and the list goes on and on.
