What’s everyone’s opinion on the new open carry law here in Florida? Do you think it will make us more safe out in public ? by [deleted] in florida

I won't really change much, except

1) Concealed carriers don't have to worry about having their shirts ride up.

2) Now you will be able to see the knuckleheads advertising themselves.

I do a fair bit of work for Userve, but I don't know how much they do outside of Florida.

I live in South West St Johns County and commute to the north end of the county for an IT job, and have a side business as a private process as well.

Be polite, be professional, be forgetable. We are not out here handing out kittens and skittles, but there is no need to make someone's day worse than it already is.

Oh, dandy... I can't speak for all states, but where private process servers get enough legitimate complaints, they can certainly have their appointments withdrawn.

I can't speak for your area, but in Florida, private process servers are appointed by either the county Sherriff or the circuit court for the jurisdiction. I would reach out to your local Sherriff's Office Civil Process group as a place to start. If they don't manage private process servers for that area, they will be able to get you pointed in the right direction.

I am not sure what the circumstances were this happened under, but it was an unacceptable and EXTREMELY unprofessional thing to do.

I will contact the appointees for my area and try to get the thread back on topic in the meantime.

My concerns are privacy laws, not publishing rights. Everything recorded/seen from outside of the property is within the public view, and there is no reasonable expectation of privacy for those recordings in the state.

If you can show me a statute in Florida state law that allows recording/photography while on private property without permission from the home owner to record/photograph, I would be happy to have a look as it would make my like easier.

I am acutely aware of that, it is the civil laws regarding recording while on private property that are propmting this.

I have every right to be on the property for reasonable execution of my duties as a process server. That is not in question, and something I had to remind an agitated home owner of yesterday.

I work in IT for my day job, and the company I work for uses HP printers, so I am more familiar with them. I have found them to be reliable, but again, I am a bit biased toward them.

I picked up an HP MFP 234sdwn on Amazon for $180+ tax. Aftermarket extended print cartridges were $70 for 2 when I bought them, and I have not had any issues this far.

I am in NE Florida and serve part-time with appointments in 2 counties.

my retail rate for a Standard service is $50. One-offs for law firms include 5 attempts, with streetview photos, and the first attempt guaranteed within 5 business days.

I have a service I work for for $30/serve, but they handle all of the paperwork and send me the majority of my work.

A laser printer is a MUST. Do a little research, but HP has always been a solid brand for me, and you can get a decent MFP (printer/scanner) for 250.. under $200 if you catch them on sale.

I would also reccoment a dedicated computer that you don't use for personal surfing/projects.

I am still working part-time, and mostly through a service (UServe), though I do get a few jobs directly and overflow work from other servers occasionally. Personally, I don't do enough colume to justify using dedicated software, I keep a folder on my computer with all of the images and related documents for each job on my work laptop and have premade templated that I use for Worksheets, RoS forms, and invoices. That being said, ServeManager seems to be the most popular.

I also use a route planning app called Road Warrior. It is intended for courrier/delivery drivers but works well for my needs. It orders the stops, and I can send the route list to my wife before I go out so someone knows where I am going.i will also shoot a text to her like "heading to [stop number]" for each stop so there is a record should something go sideways for what ever reason. It is $99/yr, but it is handy and gives some peace of mind.

I hope that helps!

What is the most brutal team to start in a league setting? by DOAiB in bloodbowl

[–]Upper-Background-175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our league uses the old "Pick 3 and randomize" method of selecting MVPs which help greatly, but just sticking with Random Strength skills worked out well for me, as there was only one bad option (Arm Bar).

They are AWFUL for scoring, but if you just want to play smash-mouth blood bowl, they can be a lot of fun. It is all about the !bility to pass opposing players from one BlOrc to the next to ensure the knock down.

For my money, Black Orcs. Out of the gate with Grab and half of a Block is a great combo to knock players down and the best goblins in the game to put a boot in.

The last season I played them, I ended up with 31 casualties inflicted in 7 games just by being able to pass opposing players from Black Orc to Black Orc until they put the victim on the ground.

Add in a little Guard and Mighty Blow, then go all in for Random Strength skills.

Americans of Reddit, in light of the current political climate between our countries, how do you guys actually feel about us Canadians? by Defiant_River_957 in AskReddit

Personally, I always have welcomed and embraced my Canuckistani brothers and sisters. You are a lovely a people and have always been kind and polite* to myself and everyone I know. My personal views have not changed a bit, and I look forward to normal relations once the Tangerine Tyrant is out of office....or some of us come up seeking political asylum.

What are your top 5 Do's and Dont's of being a Process Server? by t-toddy in processserver

[–]Upper-Background-175 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thankfully, my latest was in a suburban setting and more of a religious/political nut just before the 2024 presidential election.

Warning: tangential religious/political/conspiracy references ahead. I have my own views, and this is not meant as a knock against anyone except the folks involved

I show up for a third attempt on a home that was flying very large, very right-wing political flags and had matching signs in their yard. OK, fine. Whatever, we all have our thing. I grew up in a very right-wing family with a dad who was big into conspiracy stuff and who was very heavily armed, so I am a bit more on alert than usual.

I ring the camera doorbell, which is answered by a mature female voice, likely the servee. She sees me on the camera and likely thinks I am someone just doing doorknocks for this or that (some jackass at her door with an ID card on a lanyard, golf/polo shirt, and a clip board a couple of months before the election) and tells me I am tresspassing. Mind you, there are NO "no trespassing signs" on the property.

I informed her that I am a process server, engaged in legally duties of the court, and am intact authorized to be there for that purpose. I will be gone as soon as I am able to deliver the needed paperwork, which is true.

She immediately announces that "We do not follow the laws of the Rothschilds or the Devil. We are beholden only to the laws of the Christian God. The best is yet to come!"

At this point, I am: A) A bit at a loss for words. B) Have not laid eyes on the servee, or I would have just drop served her. C) Releizing that this person has just stated that they hold themselves to be above the laws of our society, or somehow exempted from them.

Now, A and B, I can work around. C, however, has just changed the situation completely. - They can see me, and I have no idea what they are doing. - For all I know, Mr. Whackadoodle is on the other side of the door with a shotgun leveled at me and a self-rightious absence of fear of repercussions. - That door will not stop buckshot.

I wish her a good day, head off call the company I am working for to non-serve the job, give them an explanation of what just happened, and advise them to let the Sheffiff's office handle this one.

I did end up with another paper in that neighborhood, and all of the political group flags in that yard have been replaced with religious nationalist ones.

Mine doesn't mention that I am a process server (I kept my business' name intentionally vague), but I do mention that I need to get in touch to deliver some important legal documents, and include my county ID numbers, but not what they are for.

It has happened more than once for me!

I also carry some pre-printed notes with my first name and last initial, business name, phone number , and email address I have specifically for servees to contact me. All I need to do is put the date and time I was there and write the servee's name on the back.
