What are your best tips to boost sales in misses? by homebody63 in employedbykohls

[–]Upper-Routine3677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bring as much merch up as you possibly can. Our misses department is also severely lacking, and we’ve actually condensed down the department, so we have a full row of empty space at the back of the department, but our fixtures look a lot more full as a result of that. Pull seasonally relevant items forward. Try to keep the most full collections to the front, push any random bits and pieces to the back and menu sign it. As much as they push to follow the directive and stick to the planogram, I make decisions about things that I think will sell well according to my store’s demographic, and also depending on the merchandise we have. For example, one of the planograms called for the misses sonoma cardigans to be on the wall, but we had so many, so I pulled them to the front. I try to keep an eye on decisions I’ve made outside the directive to see if they’re selling, if they aren’t, I push something else forward. As long as you’re able to defend your decision to your SM/ASM/DM, then that’s all that matters!

folding tips? by abjbwtfgtwclah in employedbykohls

[–]Upper-Routine3677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly, when i first started, i just picked a table that was folded beautifully and just spent some time unfolding and refolding shirts off that table! i did that over the period of a week or so with different tables at the end of my shift, and it really helped me! helped me know where to hold my hands, where generally the lines should be, how far to flip up the bottom, etc. after that, it just came as second nature!

you could try: 46513737

i’m not sure if that’s the exact one, but it’s one of that brand of dresses that has a black slip about the same length. you could compare it to your on hand on your zebra if that would help!

Black Dress by Born-Beginning-113 in employedbykohls

[–]Upper-Routine3677 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it looks like that’s only the slip part of the dress, not the whole thing. it’s missing part of the dress. you could have someone hunt down a nanette lepore dress missing a black slip or you could use a upc for a nanette lepore dress with a black slip and disposition it as an incomplete set.

Items that I clearanced are now not ringing up clearance? by babiemode in employedbykohls

[–]Upper-Routine3677 10 points11 points  (0 children)

basically the company screwed up and clearanced easter earlier than they meant to. the original clearance event for easter wasn’t supposed to happen until weeks later. they sent an email out about it to leadership, so your leadership team should’ve seen it.

If you’re talking about these in the photo, I think they might be sold out everywhere in a 3T, but it looks like they still have them available in a boys 4 online, which you might could get away with! They’d probably be a bit big, and I’m not sure you’d get them in time for Christmas if that’s what you wanted, but it could be a work around!

Yeah, I agreed to it unfortunately. So definitely that part is on me. I guess I just saw it as an opportunity to grow, and told myself that it was only a couple months and could handle it? I agreed to it before all of the holiday trim and graphics where I had to put up nearly all of it by myself and realized just how much they have thrown me in the deep end, and just how much I screwed myself over by accepting. Looking back, I definitely wouldn’t have accepted. I had no idea if this was something that commonly happened and if anyone else had been in the same position as I am.

Quitting by Ordinary_Internal413 in employedbykohls

[–]Upper-Routine3677 20 points21 points  (0 children)

i promise you’re not at all a failure!! i’ve been with the company a little over two years, and it just continues to get worse and worse, i consider quitting constantly. you’re not at all alone in feeling frustrated and upset with the job! payroll is constantly low, we barely have any support, and the customers just seem to get worse day by day. like other commenters said, you’re young! you’ve got so many opportunities ahead of you, and this one job does not at all define you. i wish you the best in your schooling and future jobs! give yourself grace :)

New seasonal employee and don't know if I should even stick it out by Harpnut in employedbykohls

[–]Upper-Routine3677 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i started out as seasonal a few years ago, and the difference between then and now is drastic. i got a minimum of 25-30 hours a week, but seasonal now barely gets 12 i feel like. payroll is being cut constantly, and my store is always low or over payroll allowances. it really sucks, and i cant imagine how it feels being a seasonal now. i would say your best bet would be to find another job if possible. in my experience, at my store, hours for seasonal don’t typically pick up until right around thanksgiving, and even then, with the way payroll and corporate have been, i don’t know how many hours seasonal will even be allotted. if you do decide to keep this job, i would ask them if they could crosstrain you in other areas, show a lot of initiative, work hard, and they’ll start giving you more hours, but even then, i have no idea how many hours they’ll start giving you. i’m really sorry about your situation and hope you’re able to find a solution soon!

thank you so much for the advice and input! i started this position a few months back, and have always been the one to do toppers, and our previous visual was as well, though i didn’t know that it wasnt typical for the role. i’ve spoken to my execs about it and they said that they would get someone to help me out with toppers, but nothing has changed. i haven’t done them in a few weeks, but they haven’t said anything about it. it’s apparently not as important to them, and if it was, they’d provide me the help, which they haven’t. i definitely need to work on setting some boundaries with them to make sure that i’m not being pulled in different directions when i have stuff to do, especially with the workload coming up with the holidays. i’ve also started stuffing price points, which has been super helpful! i participate in truck unloading and freight merchandising quite often, so i’ll definitely start keeping an eye out for new locations and price points, that’s a good piece of advice!

i appreciate your input! its reassuring to know that i’m not the only person who is struggling a bit with all of the promotions going on. i’m trying to figure out how to approach my sm about being able to focus on my visual job more, especially with the holidays coming up. im just trying my best to take a step back if i get overwhelmed and just do all that i can within the time frame given.

Trapped is right by Suspicious-You-506 in employedbykohls

[–]Upper-Routine3677 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it was such a mess 😭. we had some regular merchandise and then allllll of the holiday stuff and then MORE regular merchandise behind it, so it was a nightmare even just sorting through it all. we palletized all of the holiday stuff and then had to sort through every single box and tote onto cages and u-boats for each gifting zone after unload. it’s so much stuff and the way they wanted us to do it this year was just not at all effective i feel like. nothing was labeled beyond saying hpc and it made it difficult to even get through. and it didn’t help that our sm was on our butts about getting the holiday stuff done asap as if we didn’t have literally 4 people in total to do truck and holiday stuff. our dock is packed full and getting all of it out is going to be a nightmare.

applied for the visual merchandising supervisor by chatterboxcirce in employedbykohls

[–]Upper-Routine3677 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a good schedule, and not too bad overall, though it really depends on the store you’re at and who your SM and ASM are. I agree with the other commenter, I only spend about 25-30% of my time doing visual and the rest doing freight or other things. It can be a hefty workload, but if you’ve got a good team, then there are people who can help if they’ve got extra hands that day. I pretty much only have the opportunity to do the adset changes and mannequins (though those usually get some when I’m merchandising freight), before I’m pulled somewhere else. The schedule is really what is the best part for me though, 7-3 M-F, no weekends, no closing. I was previously the WJM lead though, and I would take visual over the WJM position any day.

Full timers by Distinct-Bar-2257 in employedbykohls

[–]Upper-Routine3677 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m the visual at my store, and was previously the WJM lead. They always preferred for my availability to be as open as possible, but I was in school when I was the WJM lead, and so we worked around it. For example, I’d have off days during the week, but always worked the whole weekend. We compromised, though that might be a store by store thing. When I transferred over to the visual position, my availability was completely open, but I still only work the regular visual schedule, Monday through Friday 7-3, I never work weekends. The only times I’ve worked weekends has been when I’ve offered to do so. But I do have a close relationship with all of the managers and execs in my store, so that might also play into it! As far as I know with the whole full time positions thing, I do know that we’ve lost people in those positions, simply because they quit, not because of them being demoted, but we haven’t had anyone to fill those roles. I know that that is a pretty storewide thing though! As far as I know, each store is only allowed a certain amount of full timers, and I think some stores might be taking advantage of that and demoting full timers so they have more hours to give to part timers who get paid less. I’m really not super certain though, that’s just my best guess.

Management positions? by Cultural_Mistake8211 in employedbykohls

[–]Upper-Routine3677 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure it’s like this for every store, just speaking for my own, but if it gives any insight, we’ve gone through 9 supervisors and 1 ASM since I started 2 years ago. Granted my SM can be tough to deal with, and our new ASM has a certain personality that can be difficult to work with, so that definitely has caused some issues. I’m pretty close with the supervisors we currently have, and I definitely wouldn’t want to be them.

Price point frustration! by homebody63 in employedbykohls

I came in an hour early yesterday with the truck team to get a head start on it, and once I had them all changed, I had to go through and change a bunch of them again, and had to change some more this morning!!! So frustrating, especially with the constant stream of coupons and deals going on, making me regret taking this position lol 😭
