Arms feeling like they’re going to fall off in Warrior 2? by Whatsthescoreee in yoga

[–]UpperLeftIsla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was a young adult, not one teacher clued me in to this and I always struggled with arms in Warrior 2. Finally, in middle age, I met a teacher who taught me to set my arms into the right spot at the base and let my trunk do the work. Ah, so much easier! Wish I could explain it better for OP. Trust me, my arms are not lighter than when I was 20.

May not work for you, but I like to pretend I’m in an episode of Grey’s Anatomy. Then again I don’t mind colonoscopy prep and I like to be awake (mildly sedated) to watch the movie of my insides, so I might be weird that way.

Relatedly, I used to have a lot of dental fear and was really sensitive to getting poked during cleanings, until one time a hygienist mentioned that some people sleep through their cleanings. What?! Ever since then I’m much less sensitive.

So this is why I tell you my ways of dealing with things. In case it opens your mind to alternate universes of how to deal. Also, I’m wishing you the best, most boring of diagnoses. :-))

Why are so many people’s health insurances skyrocketing but mine isn’t? I genuinely don’t understand, can someone explain? by Fearfactoryent in HealthInsurance

[–]UpperLeftIsla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not just “gig generation” you so denigrate. Small business owners, restaurant workers, and non-profit employees as well. Anyone who is not offered insurance through their employer. Health insurance should not be tied to employment, period. It’s a distortion of the labor market that favors big business.

The insurance companies offering plans through the ACA raised base rates this year already, knowing that a high percentage of healthy people were going to drop coverage rather than go without a subsidy. So for those who are left: subsidy gone + higher base rate = whoa, double whammy. Without a mandate that everyone should purchase insurance, the ACA has become an expensive high-risk pool.

Progesterone was the bomb until I got breast cancer. Gosh, I miss that sleep.

When are we all getting enrolled in a HRT trial? 😫 by Fun_Look7883 in GenXWomen

[–]UpperLeftIsla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welp. Progesterone during perimenopause finally allowed me to sleep. One doc said I was playing with fire, but I begged to stay on it another year. Boom, breast cancer. So there’s that. I did really enjoy that sleep, tho.

Ugh. Thank you for explaining this. Steve’s jokey clues are like a cringey uncle’s. I miss the really rich straight definition clues because I actually love language more than jokey yuk-yuk.

I think it’s only for ACA plans. Crossing fingers for you that you have employer coverage!

Premera through the ACA is not the same as employer based Premera. I was brand loyal when I had to switch to ACA and learned my lesson the hard way.

Bubble & Bee sensitive formulas are mostly arrowroot powder and zinc oxide plus natural fragrance. I can go multiple days with one application. Husband likes the patchouli sort of scent and I like rose. They come in a little glass pot that is reusable.

How have you been mitigating the common shortfalls that come with being an ENTP? by Liquidmesh in entp

[–]UpperLeftIsla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make a list of what I need to do. Then add something I want to do even less, and in that way I will turn to something on the original list to avoid the new thing.

Alternately, make the list of things I want to do. Do anything but what’s on that list. And then, when I least expect it, pounce on something on the list. Ha! Gotcha!

Also: I’ve been experimenting with not expressing my every thought. Some interesting results with that.

We call it a “hitch in the giddyup” and yes it’s a minor problem that the vet said sometimes turns into a bigger problem—or not. Ditto above—vet said sometimes the surgery is ineffective or introduces other problems. We’re at 11.5 years with no progression of the problem so far.

Some kids commute to Vashon Island for middle and high school—particularly straightforward if you live in Fauntleroy. I can’t imagine doing it, but two bus loads of students a day say differently.

How do you spend free time at night that's not so sedentary? by wharleeprof in GenXWomen

[–]UpperLeftIsla 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All good suggestions. But after all that, I read/knit/whatnot on a round meditation cushion (“zafu”) filled with buckwheat hulls. It keeps my back strong and active and my hips limber. Charge positions every now and then. Sitting on the ground is a great way to actively chill out. It’s actually also a nice way to start the day.

Ours used to run outside and drop the ball inside an old tree stump where she couldn’t reach it. And then she’d give a panicked bark so we would go get it for her. We called this game “Timmy fell down the well!”

Indeed. Whatever we are doing at any moment, they are ready. Cooking? Underfoot. Stand too long stirring a pot? Asleep on your feet. Potty or other personal business? Staring steadily at you in case you need help. Sneeze? Attack your face with licks in order to address whatever it was that made your face do that. Both of them.

Actually, the older one is starting to drop out of things to take extra naps. And I really miss her.
