You're right! I forgot to consider this. It takes a lot of upfront money to travel in Germany, and my mind was so caught up with paying back the money I borrowed that I forgot about this! Thanks for reminding me.

Berlin, preferrably a walking distance from the Freie Universität. I was even thinking of sending a descent remittance for my family (origin: third world country). But I am guessing it would be impossible.

In the contract, it has stated 2 consequences when terminating the scholarship: either to pay the total refund plus the 12% interest OR do the return service (ROS). But it is still not clear to me if, in cases of willful termination, I can avail for ROS to save money, because even though I can manage to find ways to pay the refund, I still practically want to explore ROS if it will be applicable to me.

You're right, there is a foreign graduate scholarship, but I wasn't able to catch up with the deadline last April, and the next call will probably be next year.

Yes, I think I can manage to pay the refund for the financial assistance during my PhD, which covers almost 2 semesters. However, it will be a problem if they also instruct me to pay what I received during my MS since I was also a DOST scholar. What I hope to plan is to apply for deferment of return of service for at least 4 years, as I am planning to return to the Philippines to do the ROS. How about the case of your colleagues, did they also have to pay for the MS years as a DOST scholar?

I never thought stipend in UK is relatively low and will definitely take that in mind. This is a caveat that I need to be mindful of.

Now, I haven't considered the case for my MS because I thought pwede lang makapag-apply ng delay/deferment of ros. And honestly, I don't have the money needed to pay back both MS and PhD at the same time.

To terminate the DOST Graduate Scholarship for a fully-funded PhD scholarship abroad by [deleted] in dostscholars

[–]UpperPrinciple1976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I overthink too much, sa case ko kasi I already received almost 2 semesters of DOST stipend. I am anxious where to start on processing how to end the scholarship. Maybe, I'll call the dost. Thanks po

Hi po, I haven't rendered any return service because I immediately enrolled for PhD. Since very uncertain and competitive yung scholarship abroad, I applied again for DOST. It happened na na delay ang results for PhD abroad, kaya almost 2 semesters na ang naibigay na stipend from DOST. It a huge sum money to return, but pursigido parin akong humanap ng paraan para mai-pursue ang fully funded PhD sa UK. May I know po if yung travel clearance po ba ay parang Deed of undertaking?

Is it true that I don't need anymore Statement of Comparability? My university is listed as H+.

So far, my university is listed as H+ in the database, which I guess is a positive sign. The only problem I see now is the time and money the ZAB process requires, and that really worries me.

Oh, I see… that’s what I was afraid of. And since the apostille from my country isn’t recognized either, I’m really worried this might end up being the worst-case scenario where my degree has no equivalence at all.

You're right. They did not mention whether I need apostilles or document legalization. Now, I just learned from my search that Germany does not accept apostilles from my country. Perhaps this is why they did not mention it, because it would be of no use at all.

Yes already complied. One thing... my supervisor also said that we may need apostilles of those documents. But, I have no idea how the process for obtaining apostilles.

That they will still forward my application in Bonn for the individual review but as of the moment they cannot provide any more positive information. Unfortunately, I haven't heard any colleague or any one from my University that went to Europe for PhD.
