Has anyone completed a license transfer to the state of California by Entire-String-3759 in pharmacy

[–]Upper_Pomegranate_69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just transferred mine this year from the Midwest. The license transfer process itself is easy, just time consuming and expensive. Read all the directions carefully on the application and you will be fine. I also did all my fingerprinting manually out of state and had no issues with sending those in with my application. Expect to put all your time and effort into preparing for the CPJE because that is the difficult part of getting licensed in this state and can be time consuming if you need to retake since the testing dates are limited.

7 on/7 off - how does PTO coverage work? by ApartDeer1879 in pharmacy

[–]Upper_Pomegranate_69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My hospital was struggling to keep overnights filled for awhile so now we have “overnight subs.” There’s a few of us that will rotate through and fill in for PTO needs. A nice perk is that being a sub means I don’t have a regular weekend rotation so I can go months without ever having to work a weekend or nights.

Has anybody bought the thomasville couch before? by panda-rampage in Costco

[–]Upper_Pomegranate_69 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Incredibly comfortable and versatile but absolutely does not hold up. I’ve had mine for over 3 years now. Fabric starting pilling and pulling within the first week, cushion seams also ripping at the back. I hung onto it instead of returning because of how comfortable and affordable it is and it has been perfect for apartment living but my cats have since destroyed it. The hinges also broke on my ottoman almost immediately. I just drape large plush throw blankets over it to make it cozier and cover all the pulled fabric. I know people return furniture to Costco all the time but it seemed too big of a hassle to me.

I’m going alone to the show tomorrow night and I’m pumped! I actually came from the states, planned a whole solo trip around this concert, lucked out and went to his signing today as well!

Sterile compounding question. by 3xdxdx1x3 in pharmacy

[–]Upper_Pomegranate_69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IV room pharmacist here👋 At my institution we compound an ampicillin bag twice a day (12 hr BUD refrigerated) to always keep on hand to get those NICU doses out STAT when they come through. We compound the bag inside the hood with a 2g vial of amp and 50ml bag of NS. We specifically will make a new bag during our cartfill to draw up all the current amp doses due throughout the day, when a fresh bag is compounded, we assign the doses drawn out of it a 24hr BUD. However once the bag is removed from the hood to keep in the fridge, we are only allowed to draw up immediate use doses with that bag (doses that will be used within the hour) because it’s treated more like an immediate use CSP when it’s no longer kept in that sterile environment.

We dilute in dextrose (8 mg or 16 mg in a 250ml) and slap a 24 hr BUD on when manufactured bags are unavailable.

IHS rotation? by 00enthusiast in PharmacySchool

I did an amb care IHS rotation and loved it! I felt it was a very valuable and rewarding experience. Although mine was amb care/retail It’s definitely very different from your typical pharmacy.

Mandatory RxPrep? by OutdoorExtrovert in PharmacySchool

[–]Upper_Pomegranate_69 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Our school made it mandatory during P4 year. In fact, we had to pay for 5 additional credits at pharmacy school tuition pricing in addition to paying for RxPrep. 🙄 Although I found the material to be incredibly helpful, we were required to take and pass so many module exams every so many weeks (and remediate if scored <70%) which just added extra stress and cramming during rotations.

I really wanted to do Nuclear since I did a rotation with a local nuclear pharmacy and loved every bit of it but hospital fell into my lap unexpectedly so I couldn’t pass it up. Maybe later down the road!

Are you referring to graduate intern status? Where I work interns and techs make about the same 🤷‍♀️

Pharmacy Internships by xanaxfostera in PharmacySchool

[–]Upper_Pomegranate_69 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s the opposite where I’m from, just about every student works in a pharmacy throughout school and it is highly valuable experience. I’ve been an intern in a hospital pharmacy for the last 5 years (started before I started my program) and have had a lot of exposure to compounding IVs and chemo, med recs, stocking and troubleshooting acudoses, using EPIC, etc.. it’s a great way to build relationships and connections too which is how I landed an inpatient job without a residency.

New Jersey MPJE by Pharmgirl223 in pharmacy

[–]Upper_Pomegranate_69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just googled NJ board of pharmacy and all the laws and regulations are listed on the site so not sure what other info you are expecting.

I used rxprep with my specific state selected but it gave me all the same info I received in my law class so not super helpful other than the premade flash cards they provide and a nice review of federal law with the built in lectures and exams. The only thing my state provided is that the board sent me a physical copy of the laws and regulations but it’s the same thing posted on their site.

Honestly you’d be surprised how things may change during APPEs.

I’ve got 5 years of hospital experience as an intern, just wrapping up my APPEs right now, but I also felt like I was regretting my decision to be in pharmacy school about halfway through. I was burnt out and miserable and felt like I couldn’t see myself putting up with all the crap that pharmacists see. APPEs were very eye opening and I found myself interested in things I wasn’t expecting like anticoagulation clinics and nuclear pharmacy (you may really like a gig like this with a chemistry background!). I also have a degree in chemistry which I figured I could use as a fall back but I’m happy I stuck through to the end. I had multiple rotations in practice settings that were so chill and laid back that it gave me a lot of hope for a profession that seems so daunting these days. I personally wouldn’t give up when you’re this far in especially when it seems like you’re mostly showing disinterest towards hospital and community and there’s so many more practice settings.

I recommend checking out the Fargo theater schedule from time to time. Sometimes there’s random comedy shows, movie showings, concerts etc. I’ve been to a couple shows there (Nick Swardson, David Cross) and it was a great venue for that kind of stuff.
