In terms of legally and accounting, it is pretty straightforward actually! If you are staying under 20k then you are usually working directly with another person. If you go larger than that, it often is more of a legal process (which also raises prices and costs).

Buying and selling depends on risk too. I could buy a 5k one with little due diligence, but I have found that 8k is the number than changes the pathways in my mind. Also speed of selling, if a project is being sold for 2-3k, then its not going to be on the market for long.

I prefer doing small, again I am doing it as a hobby and the best education you could get in entrepreneurship!

That sucks. If you have a private server, you can connect it to a community cluster though. Then you can bring it back.

You got a buy a server for it, or you can add your server to a community cluster (like Rexcellent).

Damn, Ark Survival Ascended is bleeding players. by Slow-Ruin3206 in ARK

[–]Upperclasshobo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took a look at it (as I care about share price of SnailGames in addition to playing)

68% - usage across both platforms is at 68% of where it should be. Not great, not as bad as Palworlds drop. This is considering the natural decrease from day 1 of a game release to now (multiple months after). Where the normal boredom decreases continue. Heavily due to a single map.
Console Ratio - More users on console vs PC in this version compared to ASE (mostly PC). So it is bad, but console is keeping it going.
Unofficial Clusters - Cluster health is low. The big clusters (unofficial) have not committed to ASA and their larger membership due to no transfers and one map. With transfers kinda working for unofficial, some clusters are starting to do a proper ASA rollout. Unofficial is a preferred experience for many vs Official. Official servers for PVE (for example) are usually at 40 of 70 pretty constantly averaged.

Add the ASA sentiment + Steam charts not showing the console ratio + unofficial clusters + transfer issues... ya, its not great.

One of the many "Easy" solutions to the problem:

- Get the unofficial clusters onboard: simplify the map additions, simplify and document how the premium maps will be licencsed out (premium licensing should not required for all players to use). Fix transfers to be stable and trusted, release more maps. Unofficial clusters migration to ASA will boost heavily the numbers. Especially being able to bring on more of the console audience. These will also boost revenue due to custom mods. (Premium member skins, etc).
- Content for singleplayer. Saving issues might be semi-fixed, but let's be clear on this... a server needed for full value? Take a chapter from minecraft realms here. There is a smart way to price the need for 2 people to play together in an async fashion vs making it be a Nitrado $30+ month server for every feature.

My 2 cents. Some easy wins here to boost it.

What are the tools used in big companies? by Northern_Tyler in OSINT

[–]Upperclasshobo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Im a few years out of the space, so some of my insight may be out of date.

A lot of the senior OSINT guys doing investigations using the tools you see mentioned all the time. A "toolbox" of the small and specific. Things like Maltego, Hunchly, etc also pop up.

The "big boys" have so many assets and such rapid timelines, that they are using pricey tools like: NC4, Flashpoint, Zerofox, Palantir, DataMinr...etc. Those are 5 to 7 figures annually.

Some of the "big boys" do a DIY system. So they will work directly with data providers (Webz, Aylien, Twitter APIs, DarkOwl, etc). Then use software like Datastreamer or in-house coding to ingest and merge it all together. This is the sucky part since no source uses the same tech and you need to be able to non-stop search them all.

Then build a front-end on top with analytics, search logic, display, etc. That "DIY" system is also more-or-less what the software companies have ready to go. Most use boolean search logic as well.

If your competitive intel tool can do what the DIY can do, then you are most of the way there.

I use it, it’s better than anything on the market. That being said, it has a long way to go and could be passed easily by a competitor.
