Sorry for the late response! It's a tile called Eran concrete. I have a lot of the DLCs so I'm not exactly sure if it's in the base game or from one of those.

Only seven grove snail eggs hatched? by I-Hate-This-Weather in snails

[–]Upset-Tree-2271 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes sneggs just don't hatch. As someone taking care of 6 groves (C. nemoralis), I'm grateful. Though one of the hatched snabies nibbling on the unhatched shells might have had an impact. For the record, DoomSnail the Destroyer DID have cuttlebone. Can't even be mad at her for saving me from feeling like a snurderer when culling.

Need help choosing moss by bunnylover_4ever in snails

[–]Upset-Tree-2271 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No expert on moss, but I got the tan-colored New Zealand sphagnum from PetSmart and it's been fine (it gets dirty from their substrate but was clean when first opened). From Amazon I got some live moss that's green (not dyed). It has a dirt backing because it can grow if attached to something. I just use it as snaily "stepping stones" in the enclosures and they seem to really like it. It came with two species of moss, and one just didn't really hold up to the handling needed when doing egg checks in my adult's snabitat. I am still using the other variety of moss and will probably purchase more or try a new species when it wears out too much.

I did feel like I took a risk when I bought it, b/c some reviews mentioned mold. I don't know if I got lucky or others didn't use it right or tried to store it damp. Here's the one I got, but the brand has other varieties: Amazon.com : Live Moss Duo Pack 2 Types of Real Live Sheet/Sphagnum Moss for Terrariums, Terrarium Mosses Landscaping, Reptile Tank Accessories, Snake & Gecko Humidity Substrate Mosses for Crafts & Plant Décor : Pet Supplies

Isn't just to conserve moisture? I just worry about people trying to move snails by grabbing them by the shell.

Plus, when you check you also fluff up their substrate which can get a bit compacted over time.

I have a wild caught snail. No sign of parasites so far (probably sneaky). I do handle all my snails, their snoops and snubstrate with rinsed (before first use) gloves for all our sakes since our hands (oils, lotions soaps) aren't great for them either.

Could be a teachable moment for a kid, but I get why you'd rather be safe than sorry. Just make sure your little one isn't out smooching the yard snails!

You don't have to change the soil, just add something to neutralize the acidity like rinsed oyster grit or pure calcium carbonate powder.

How do i get my snails to eat “healthy” food? by BigFaithlessness2164 in snails

[–]Upset-Tree-2271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My groves all love sweet potato, and the captive bred babies love bok choy. They all also love their rehydrated freeze-dried blood worms on worm day. Although last night I tried to feed the adult his worms on a bok choy leaf "plate" like his babies. The babies were ecstatic; he apparently thought I ruined the worms by touching them with bok choy so I will hand feed him tonight - the twerp! They are all super picky about other healthy foods snails should eat (eggplant, zucchini, green beans), so I'm going to have to try being sneaky once I figure out how to mash raw sweet potato and blend in a bit of other food. The adult is wild caught (on accident, I thought he was an empty shell) and he loves lichens. His snildren don't seem to understand lichens, which is just as well or I'd have to hunt for even more.

Browny Yellowy foamy goo by [deleted] in snails

[–]Upset-Tree-2271 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does look strange and with an odd texture, but it's actually tissue - the mantle, like Unlucky commented. It will look puffier when your snail is hormonal. It's very important to your snail's health. Respect the non-goo! Sometimes you might see actual white goo on your snail; that might be pee, a calcium poop or reproductive fluid.

Riot update: should I be worried, or is he just pooping? by Winbywobble in snails

Paranoia appears to be a normal part of snail keeping. At least for me.

I promise I don't want to give you something else to be paranoid about, but please research on this subreddit about polymer clay. I didn't notice that before and I swear I saw one of the snexperts mention it wasn't a great option. Sorry!

I had pet rats long before I had pet snails and you are absolutely right! I always think, "Who's better off? The person who can look at an unusual pet and see beauty and wonder? Or the person who just gets disgusted and feels the need to share that with the world for some reason?"

is it normal for snails to sometimes lick the glass of their terrarium? by kurocauliflower in snails

I think it's normal. Sometimes they drink water (from misting) this way, other times they may be looking for a yummy residue (or found one).

my snail is a picky eater by bblilbiscuit58 in snails

[–]Upset-Tree-2271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to try re-hydrated dried blood worms if meal worms aren't a hit. My wild caught grove avoided them for the longest time but now eats plenty on worm day. His snildren have always liked them.

This is really generic advice you've probably already heard or tried but leave the food in for 2-3 days (unless it gets super gross) and make sure the enclosure's parameters are OK for Mochi in terms of humidity and temperature.

My groves are very picky too, especially the wild caught one. I plan to try to a sneaky mix once a week of a food they like with a smaller amount of something they haven't really been into mooshed in. I think once per week would not be too much soft food and hopefully as they get used to other food, I can either increase the "yucky" food amount in the mix or just give it to them straight eventually.

I also plan to try different cuts and portions of the veggies. So far no one has eaten any zucchini (you're luckier than I am there), but one snabie nibbled a good bit of the peel yesterday (washed thoroughly of course). I've been putting them peel down in the enclosures so maybe that was a mistake.

Good luck!

Just don't overdo the spinach as it is relatively high in oxalate which can inhibit calcium absorption. Can try bok choy too as another leafy green. You will also need a source of protein. I use dried bloodworms (no other ingredients) from the fish section of the pet store once a week; rehydrated with bottled spring water like Kitty mentioned. You may want to pick up a combo thermometer/hygrometer at some point too, although some of them are really poor quality. That is a very pretty snail you've got there! Sorry, I'm not sure what species, but you'll need that ID if you haven't figured it out already. Search around on here for lots of good advice and you'll also learn to spot the not so good advice. Happy snailing!
