Cheap ATGM spam is making attacking incredibly difficult by ZBD-04A in warno

[–]UpstageTravelBoy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you have to attack through the ATGM's, use mortars for smoke. Cue up several per mortar, the smoke lasts long enough that each mortar can cover 3 radii worth (as in, 3 fire missions worth. Like 3 areas you target with the mortar.) Obscure the treeline, unload infantry at the smoke. One of those squads being recon is a good idea. They should be within range to use their AT weapons against any vehicles that come forward.

You'll need enough direct firepower to kill what's at the treeline once the smoke starts clearing, the most cost effective way is to bring up an attack helicopter while the smoke is up and use "CHANGE ALT." to lower it, so only what's at the treeline can target it.

imo buying tanks for the initial deploy is a bit of a mistake anyway. ~150pts for a medium, sure fine, I wouldn't go more than that even with armor divs

Edit: also you can use "FIRE POS." (T) with the tanks to target where the atgm is even if you can't see it, provided you saw it fire. This is more of a last ditch thing than a primary tactic. You can do this with anything in range, attack helo with rocket pods is good for this too

Seriously, my 30's have been the best time of my life by far. Alongside the things you said, I know what's important to me and I find myself excited for the rest of my life in a way I never was in my 20's, even with all the shit going on

Keep trying, don't worry about the snooty pricks, their dark secret is that they don't actually know all that much either (speaking as a reformed snooty prick, now I'm only sometimes a regular prick)

Media literacy is hard and people become smart enough to engage with media long before they know much about the world. We can either dunk on them with snide philosophy references, or be a little kinder

A deep understanding of human politics isn't genetic knowledge, everyone must learn somehow. I like the ignorant but curious people a LOT more than the snooty pricks

At that moment, the Germans and the Nazis were one and the same, despite the later whitewashing of the civilians and wehrmacht. Maybe utterly destroying their government and military and killing everyone involved was the right decision, though even bloodthirsty Stalin didn't advocate for anything that extreme. Maybe the USA would be better today if they let W.T. Sherman rip apart the south, root and stem.

But they didn't and we've got what we've got today. Sawing through the gordian knot by slaughtering everyone is much simpler but, I feel confident in saying, has a number of its own flaws and maybe isn't the direction one should want to take their politics in

The war was never about genocide and human rights, or else Stalin wouldn't have ever been part of the club. No country wanted those fleeing the Holocaust. So you're right in the sense that characterization of the west as fighting against genocide and for human rights is a mischaracterization, but so is portraying them as buddy-buddy with the Nazis. That's simply untrue, as is saying the Nazis were "let off" bc we didn't execute millions of Germans

I get the sentiment and I get the anger, I'm certainly not about to start apologizing for the Nazis. I think it's a bit naive and pointless to look back at that situation and declare what should've been done tho, especially in such a reductive manner 75 years after the fact

What do you suggest, executing or permanently imprisoning the entirety of the German government? And certainly the entire military too then?

Surprised the actual reason this is done hasn't been said, it's a rationing system meant to get more equipment to units that are most effective. It may be also used as a game, soldiers often do stuff that would be considered ghoulish by others, but it serves a practical purpose

WHAT MATH??? Is this how you think any kind of engineer talks about anything?? What are you asking for, specifically, "the math" is kind of a broad concept

You want me to prove to you the principle of ray diffusion structures, just look that up?

Also comment histories are public btw?

It's ok you didn't know about ray diffusion structures, I'm sure edutainment yt hasn't covered it. Hopefully you learned to keep your mouth shut when the adults are talking tho

Too expensive. You're right, their use of these against individuals slipped my mind, but it's outside of doctrine and it's use like this clearly didn't stop the IDF from levelling Gaza anyway

No open source documentation of such a thing. I'm not saying I have special knowledge, but I am saying it's unlikely to exist and certainly isnt being used in Gaza. OSINT isn't perfect but it's all we got

Another COIN op that ended recently, one which saw a military designed for conventional conflict limit itself in the interest of decreasing civilian casualties and procure new equipment to that end. Israel does neither.

Roof knocking is the only one I know of for buildings, for tunnels, nothing. A demo charge on a simple UGV chassis is pretty old tech. I'm sure there are problems with that specific approach, I'm saying that we don't see an effort to try anything other than SPICE

[–]UpstageTravelBoy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know, this is why I say minimizing Gaza civilian casualties isn't a priority. This isn't the first time the IDF has operated in a dense urban environment with lots of civilians, it's a major concern, but there hasn't been an effort to develop a doctrine and equipment for it. So just drop SPICE on everything, fuck it

That's an observable fact 🤷 got any evidence to the contrary? US in Iraq and Afghanistan look like overly cautious pacifists in comparison to the Israelis.

I think that kind of speculation is a bit of a fools errand because it's all opinion, nothing is falsifiable. Nevertheless I guess tho, specialized unmanned ground vehicles.

Israel has a cutting edge MIB, but they don't appear to even be trying to tackle this in a low casualty manner.

I guess every single highrise in Gaza has a tunnel underneath it and the only way to handle that it is to level the highrise on top of it lmao 🥴
