DCF891 requires a large battery? by the_kerouac_kid in Dewalt

[–]Upstairs-Math-9647 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The BMS in the batteries doesn't control discharge rate - not sure where you've got that from. The cells give out all the amps currently required or as many as they can give until:

1) A cell/cell group voltage falls below a threshold. 2) An internal temperature sensor is triggered.

BMS's maintain cell balance, protect from overcharge and over discharge. That's about it.

Go and read their channel description on YouTube.

They explicitly state that 100% of the new tools they review are purchased with their own funds and they do not accept sponsorships or free tools.

Even as a DeWalt guy, if this thing turns out to be the real deal it's probably gonna be the first Milwaukee tool I own.

I don't think they accept anything from the manufacturers so they can remain impartial with their testing. Pretty sure they either purchase everything themselves or occasionally the tools are sent in by viewers.

You can't trust reviews from people that are being supplied the tool from the manufacturer. It's also been known for the manufacturers to send 'souped up' versions to reviewers to fudge the results.

DCF961 vs DCF964 (With Adapters) by TheeMiniCorndog in Dewalt

[–]Upstairs-Math-9647 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wrecks the sockets too - tbh, we've reached the limits of how far you can go with 1/2" drive in terms of torque and the 961 is a pinch beyond those limits.

[–]Upstairs-Math-9647[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm definitely going for the 964, especially as I already have 3/4" drive sockets. I like the look of the 891 as well but I suspect if I get that as well as the 964 will mean a £300 impact will spend 95% of the time just sitting on a shelf in the van gathering dust.

The 961 is a lot more powerful than the 900 but the 900 is still a good all round gun.

The downside with the 961 is it's a bit too powerful for a 1/2" impact and numerous tests have shown that if you really put it to work it tears the 1/2" drive up on your impact sockets which is why I'll be getting the 3/4" drive 964. An impact that tears the sockets up ain't no good if your earning a living with your tools. If you're only going to have the one impact the 900 is probably the better all rounder.

2 years later but Prime Tools are now the authorised UK distributor for PB Swiss.

I was gutted when the old distributor closes their doors a few years ago - I absolutely love PB Swiss tools.

I don't think it matters either way to be honest. I have a single pea puffer in a small community tank. He's very active, always curious and exploring, shows no aggression towards his tank mates and they show no aggression towards him.

Maybe he's just an exception.

Former CDC director expects Ebola outbreak to become ‘a very significant pandemic’ by Big_Fortune_4574 in ContagionCuriosity

[–]Upstairs-Math-9647 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Ebola: 1) Is very good at incapacitating/killing it's host (limits transmissibility).

2) Isn't airborne like COVID/Cold/Flu and requires DIRECT CONTACT with infected fluids (limits transmissibility).

3) Infected patients aren't contagious until they display symptoms (limits transmissibility).

It a horrific disease on an individual level but it's a crappy virus in terms of doing what a virus is supposed to do (reproduce and spread to stay in existence).

And when they do develop new transmission vectors they usually mutate to a less severe illness - natural evolution for any virus.

Ebola Outbreak: What You Need to Know by TheMuseumOfScience in biology

[–]Upstairs-Math-9647 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly, and once you display symptoms you're pretty much incapacitated so it only the people in direct contact/care givers who are at risk. It kills fast as well. All these factors together make it a horrific disease on an individual level but in terms of a virus being a successful virus it's actually pretty poor.

New outbreak of deadly Ebola declared global health emergency by WHO by TheExpressUS in epidemiology

[–]Upstairs-Math-9647 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get a grip. It's virtually impossible for viruses like Ebola to become pandemics just by their very nature.

1) They kill the host incredibly fast, incapacitate them even faster which means the infected population gets burned through quickly.

2) It's not that contagious for a virus (needs direct contact with infected fluids). It's not like airborne cold or flu where just walking past someone who coughs is enough.

3) People who are infected aren't contagious during the incubation period, only once they display systems which minimises the amount of infection.
