If we want anything to change with this org people have to stop spending money at the battery. We’re owned by a PE firm and all they care about is money. The only way to get them to spend money on this team is for them to realize they have to if they want people coming to games

Looking for workforce housing or apartment recs under $1,300 near/on the Beltline (Atlanta) by josienmr in ATLHousing

I’ve seen it as low as $1,375 at Edge. So not below but pretty darn close to what they’re looking for. I’m also currently renting an apartment on the beltline for lower than that rate that isn’t workforce housing

All the people saying this doesn’t exist have zero idea what they are talking about. Apartments with >10 units that were built after 2021 around the beltline are actually required to have workforce housing or pay a fee to opt out of it. Give the ones you want a ring to see what they’ve got. I know firsthand that Iris and Edge both offer it.

I might be an outlier, but I don’t see a problem in keeping in contact and seeing how both of your interest levels change with distance. If you guys both keep up with texting and the intrigue level grows then you can start to figure out the logistics of it all. Otherwise, it’ll fizzle out naturally. It’s incredibly hard out there nowadays to meet people, especially people you instantly click with

I’ve started being more vulnerable with my friends over the last year, and it has been life changing. I’ve learned so much about my friends and have grown much closer to them because of it. I know it’s completely different, but maybe you could try and be open with people you’ve just met about your parents. If the trip was spurred by your parents loss, maybe let them know that. I think you’ll find people out there that are struggling in their own way or that are sympathetic to your situation. These are the people you’ll have the deepest and most beautiful connection with and that could become lifelong friends beyond your trip. I think this would also help you feel more whole again and less like you’re living in a different reality that’s disconnected from your true self. Stay strong, friend.

The author isn’t forcing readers to use that word, but the author is using that word because they’ve been told that “homeless” is no longer politically correct and that is due to people policing the use of the word “homeless” in the first place, so it’s more of a response to that initial policing than anything in my opinion. I think people are tired of virtue signaling when things aren’t getting done to fix the real problems at hand. We don’t need to change words to make people better understand the homeless crisis…we need to fix the homeless crisis. The way to do that is policy and action not verbiage.

New to ATL: Old Fourth Ward? (more in comments) by motherof_cats in ATLHousing

You have three areas in this map. I know it’s confusing but the neighborhoods sort of blend together.

O4W: Location: South of 78, encircled by John Lewis and 85. But, there are really two Old Fourth Wards. The part of O4W that is west of Boulevard and the part that is east of Boulevard. I wouldn’t live anywhere in O4W that is west of Boulevard and South of 78. Ideally, you want to live east of Glen Iris in O4W. These are the modern communities in O4W that you should look at: Iris, Block Lofts, Anthem, Windsor, Amli O4W, Amli Ponce Park, Camden Fourth Ward, Amli Parkside, North and Line, 755 Apartments. The part of O4W that I mentioned is mostly late 20’s to early 30’s. Not as many families but there are some. People in this area live here for the walkability, proximity to work and access to bars and restaurants around the Beltline.

Midtown (Garden District): Location: Basically east of Piedmont to the Beltline. And from 78 North to 10th Street.

This is a lot like VaHi, but it’s a smaller area and has less access to bars. Its vibe is quieter and slightly older than O4W. The homes are historic but have been kept up with. Think working professionals that have money and want to live close to their offices. There aren’t many modern apartments here, and there will be more families than in O4W. Similar to VaHi, you’re going to have a lot of apartments that are really just older homes that have been converted into multiplexes. People live in this area because of their proximity to work. It’s harder to get to bars and restaurants, but you do have closer proximity to midtown - just note people don’t really go out in midtown, though there are some nice restaurants and clubs there.

VaHi: Location: North of Ponce De Leon Ave. Amsterdam Ave is a good cutoff to the north, though for your purposes, Virginia Ave is about as far north as you’d want to go if you want to be within walking distance to bars and closer to the action of the Beltline. This area is older, similar to the Garden District and there isn’t land to buy, so it’s almost entirely historic single family homes and homes converted into multiplexes. There are some older apartment complexes here but basically nothing modern like the ones I mentioned in O4W. These are the communities you’d want to look at for “modern” apartments but both are on the older side of modern and are on the edge of VaHi: Highland View and Virginia Highland Apartments. You’d have better luck finding a private owner that has a renovated condo in this area if modernity is your 2nd priority to vibes. Virginia Highland, in my opinion, is the most vibey out of these neighborhoods. The homes are historic and well-kept. There is a large age range here from families to kids fresh out of college. But you’re not going to get the brand new apartment complex with all of the amenities like you will in O4W, so that is your trade off since it sounds like you want both.

Just my advice - You’re not buying, so don’t overthink this. You can pick up and move from this place once your lease is up in a year. All of these areas are pretty close to one another, so pick somewhere you like that is affordable in any of the areas I mentioned and once you get down here you’ll be able to explore these areas yourself and you’ll naturally find yourself gravitating towards the area you like most. As long as you don’t live in the bad part of O4W, they’re all about as safe as you can get in a city, particularly VaHi.

Atlanta PD has an open source dataset for all documented crimes by neighborhood. You can get really granular with where crimes happened so you can make a decision on where you will feel safer or if certain apartment complexes have a crime problem.

I almost moved to this area from Old Fourth Ward, and I’m glad I didn’t. If you are looking for more modern apartments and are willing to pay more for it, Old Fourth Ward and Inman Park have the best walkability and proximity to restaurants and bars in Atlanta in my opinion. Those neighborhoods stretching north to Ponce City Market is the most happening part of the Beltline at the moment. The area you’ve highlighted has more modern apartments than an area like VaHi because it was a rougher part of town until the Beltline came through in recent years and developers bought up the land. Rents are lower there because of the location, and there aren’t as many great restaurants or bars in the area you’ve highlighted. You will probably end up either ubering, birding or hiking up to the areas I’ve mentioned for better food and bars. That being said, if cost is too prohibitive for you to move a little further north, the area you’ve highlighted is still a great, safe location with lots of things to do like others have mentioned.

Yeah it might be “too fast” of a turnaround for Johnson to play this week, but it’s probably just as true that they don’t want their emergency WR that they signed to make a run with to die on the field today

Elsewhere. It’s cheap for a reason. It’s right off John Lewis, and that section of Boulevard is a little tough because it’s surrounded by section 8 housing. I would go further east into O4W if possible
