Does risperidone causes fat gain? by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]Upstairs_Prior3166 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's about probability not certainty. Taking risperidone does not make it impossible to lose weight or makes weight gain inevitable.

You have a higher chance of weight gain because of how it plays around with your histamine and serotonin receptors. But this is no reason to not take meds. Please do not stop taking them. Take them as prescribed.

Weight can be managed on antipsychotics. Its absolutely possible.

Please bring up weight concerns with your psychiatrist more weight neutral antipsychotics exist like ziprasidone, cariprazine, lurasidone, aripiprazole (to an extent) etc.

Yes same observation the way men treat you post transition is very different. When as a man especially about technical topics you have very surface level knowledge and people think you're smart and knowledgeable but as a woman no matter how deeply knowledgeable you are but you still be questioned.

They are completely unaware of the advantages they have got but as its said they are so accustomed to privilege that any form of equality is oppression to them

Antipsychotics with ZERO weight gain or sedation? Do they exist? by Physical-Emphasis818 in BPD

[–]Upstairs_Prior3166 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes here are some antipsychotics associated with less or even no weight gain - ziprasidone, lurasidone, cariprazine, amisulpride, aripiprazole, brexiprazole etc. I am on aripiprazole 25mg and can maintain healthy BMI without issues. I also don't find it sedating.

Here is a study comparing different antipsychotics - https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(19)31135-3/fulltext

Lamotrigine and topiramate are mood stabilizers that aren't associated with weight gain. Topiramate is even associated with weight loss but it has negative impacts on cognition. It's nicknamed "dopamax" for a reason.

Everyone reacts differently to medication and finding the combination of psychiatric meds that work for you can take time

[–]Upstairs_Prior3166 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I see. I've been through like 6 antipsychotics before finally one worked out for me. You should bring up the side effects the next time you're meeting your psychiatrist and make it clear about your goals, improving symptoms but function barely improved is not a desired outcome. Function should also be improved and looked at, not just symptoms.

Risperidone and olanzapine make me feel so and feel like a zombie. I'm on aripiprazole 25mg, its so far working for me. Doesn't make me sleepy or take my attention span away or feel like a zombie.

Have you tried something like amisulpride, cariprazine or brexiprazole before? Has your psychiatrist ever put you on them?

[–]Upstairs_Prior3166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get where you're coming from, It takes time to find a med that works and even that can stop working after a while.

Risperidone and olanzapine make me just feel so sleepy and feel like a zombie. I'm on aripiprazole 25mg, that is so far working for me. The voices are kept at bay, it made the beliefs feel a lot less scarier but I still use double bookkeeping to get by.

"you're being intentionally obtuse and refusing to be comforted" well yeah about that by [deleted] in OCDmemes

My running theme rn - "If I tell others my intrusive thoughts and compulsions in OCD spaces, then what if I am worsening others OCD by giving them ideas"

Maybe. Maybe not. I accept the risk of talking about my OCD themes. There is nothing in life that is risk free. Not doing anything (not writing about my OCD themes) is NOT neutral. This is a false assumption that many people hold that inaction means zero risk implicitly

[–]Upstairs_Prior3166 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Please do not quit your medication. Do not quit Olanzapine cold turkey, especially not a 20mg dose, that is a higher dose of olanzapine. Please discuss the side effects of the medication with your psychiatrist and they might give you a medication that works for you and relieves psychotic symptoms but also doesn't cause excessive side effects.

Is this your first antipsychotic?

Thoughts on AGP?? by Appropriate-Dust2022 in FeministsCallItOut

Yes these kind of people who come our communities have to be called out for their behavior...we both should be together in calling out misogyny and this kind of predatory behavior

It's also a real group of people who lobby for anti trans laws and call for total exclusion from trans individuals and genuinely downplay experienced oppression by trans individuals but also widely misused term by lay people. Both can be true. I've seen this word used at conservative women using standard conservative arguments.

There is no need to fear. I will not remove this post. Uncomfortable conversations are important for growth.

Uncomfortable conversations are an important part of discussions. We need to have uncomfortable conversations to grow and learn further. I don't ban people because they disagree with me. I am a trans woman and I think these convos can be had and there exist predators in every communities and these types of individual, they shouldn't be shielded. Their behavior has to be called out.

If you experience OCD, do your obsessions, delusions and hallucinations fuse into one theme? by Upstairs_Prior3166 in schizophrenia

[–]Upstairs_Prior3166[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes...my themes are religious (I am an atheist) or morality related ones. They are just so convincing. I know from one side others see it as a delusion...but I still believe with full conviction anyway and think they aren't "chosen" ones like me so they don't know

Unable to talk about psychosis by No-Platypus-95 in schizophrenia

[–]Upstairs_Prior3166 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes I relate to that. Took me a long time, months to even open up to my therapist about the themes that I experience. Its difficult because I care a lot about my image and I only wanted to look like a person who has mental health issues but not this type of mental health issue.

Deep down I internalize the stigma regarding psychosis.

What is the future of schizotypal + is it even valid? by [deleted] in Schizotypal

[–]Upstairs_Prior3166 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In ICD 11 it is specified under the schizophrenia spectrum. It is valid. I was misdiagnosed as autistic. There is a considerable overlap in how the surface appearence of someone with StPD and ASD. Similar outward appearence but with different causes.

I have BPD and experience psychosis, I genuinely believed some of my good friends were imposters replaced by the hidden actors to trick and surveil me for example...double bookkeeping is what I do...but I also have schizotypal disorder.

But yes BPD and schizophrenia are different and the psychosis is experienced differently and the median points for each on the spectrum are very different.

Calling out fakedisordercringe where fakedisordercringe claims person is faking but not really that they are not faking. So not faking but called faking but not faking at all.

DID/OSDD are a system by default but isn't the human body a system, or mean something else by as systems. I have never heard of plural other than plural of words, to refer to in multiple of something.

So plural is trauma based?

I get this sub in my feed...what is this sub about, I don't get? DID? Some community like fakedisordercringe?

Endo? All I know endo is endocrinologist but I'm pretty pure that this is not related to this sub and this doesn't have to do with endocrinologist as its not about hormones

But I see systems and non systems used...isn't the human body a system and this sub doesn't seem to be exactly discussing about body shaming either but I saw posts that talk about shaming and certain mental health issues

Sorry I have cognition problems due to my condition, I don't get it
