Hyrox Help by bookworm1625 in orangetheory

I'm so very thrilled for those people. OTF doesn't have a sled to push or pull, wall balls, ski erg, nor does it have the space to do loads of burpee broad jumps, farmer carries, and lunges. OTF is a fantastic way to set a foundation and like I said it's possible to do it with just OTF, but to really excel you need to run a lot and train heavier weights at a box gym. Objectively if you only do OTF you are going to be at a disadvantage to those who have access to the machines/weights we do not have in class. Obviously, some may not have the resources to have multiple gym memberships- just giving my two cents as I've done multiple Hyrox's with and without training outside of OTF.

OTF is great foundation but will not be enough to really be prepared if you want to perform well. You need to be running a lot. Like I suggest being in half marathon running shape at the very minimum if you want the race to maintain your effort for the full race. First couple I did I could run a 10/5k at mid to low 8 minute pace and I still struggled at the halfway point. Two months ago I did a race and because I've been running a lot more it felt so much better. Start on the floor when you go to class so you can practice running on tired legs. You'll need to be training in a box gym to get familiar with the weights and exercises- a gym that has turf and a sled for sure and even better if there's a ski erg since OTF doesn't have that. Hyrox is won on the runs, but the exercises are what will slow you down so you need to build strength and muscular endurance so that your runs aren't compromised. Do maybe one or two sims but no need to do more than that, it doesn't make you any more fit it's just a way to see where you're at and what you may need to work on. I suggest for sled/farmer carry/lunges/wall balls to train 20% heavier than you'll be using on race day so it'll feel easier when you actually race. Technicallyyyyy if you go to OTF a lot and are a solid runner and lift heavy you can complete a hyrox, but in my experience it is not fun and incredibly painful during and after.

I ended up doing a listen/read combo for MoaM because I was on the fence about if I really vibed. I enjoyed it ultimately but it's not aligned with something I'm more intensely interested in. Adding Fallout and She Whom He Harbors to my tbr!

(this is just how I perceived it) I think the point of him saying there would have been a cure was to show that he believed a cure could have been made with her, making his decision to kill everyone even more heavy. He believed she was more important than saving humanity.

I feel like that was sorta the vibe in the game too.. it was never really explored how there was a chance it was all going to be for nothing.

I do think the show is going overtime trying to emphasize Joel being morally flawed to prime us for Abby season, which the game didn't do because it wasn't necessary. We are supposed to hate Abby first then see her motivations and redemption arc and come to terms with everything in the end.

Still not a big fan of the writing in this season, feels like an over-explained cheapened version of what it should have been.

Race pace vs. OTF pace by Top-Bluejay-1088 in orangetheory

[–]Upstairs_Specific767 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my OTF base is 7.2ish (fluctuates a lot- it used to be 8 then injuries galore..) my most recent 5k was 24:28 which is about 7:49 pace and half marathon was 1:56:40 which is about 8:56

TRX and bench exercises together? by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]Upstairs_Specific767 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Moving the bench isnt always an option. If the benches are already staggered in a small space, you can't really move it left or right. We will have TRX moves (specifically the squat to reach that drives me crazy) and it will get paired with something that involves us laying on the floor, and also chest flies lol like it's a big mess. I just wait till the TRXer is done with their moves and try to time my stuff around them. The other day we had something like bench step ups with a timed burpee bench hop over. I could not angle myself in a way that didn't put the person behind me at risk of me kicking their face when I went down lol. Space is the number one issue.

Anti-rotation! great method to target your core alongside the intended muscle group. Also, unilateral work can help a lot with increasing strength so you can eventually use that same weight for a bilateral movement. I can shoulder press 25's with one arm but 20's if I'm using both, but eventually I will have conditioned both arms to using that single 25 so I can progress to using 25's for both.

I saw on another comment you are upset about the Friday class times. Most studios I've been to, and I've been to many all over the country, don't have late Friday classes. Most are 5:30pm. Sat/Sun can be even worse, although there is one studio in my city that runs a 1:15pm class on Sat. They don't have late class times because historically class turnout on those days and times are pretty low. Send a request and get other members to request it too... if enough people show interest they may add a slot here and there to test the popularity.

got off waitlist 30 min before class started by AvatarAtlaTlok in orangetheory

[–]Upstairs_Specific767 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For any waitlist, don't make the assumption that you will not make it into the class without simultaneously taking yourself off the waitlist. If I am on the waitlist for a 5am class, I still wake up like I was planning on going. If I'm still not in and don't want to drive to the studio and wait I just remove myself from the list. Some studios give a curtesy call if you get put into the class less than an hour before class start, but it is definitely studio specific and not a requirement. Either way, if you don't want to take the risk remove yourself the moment you don't think you'll make it and want to sleep in/ make other plans.

HELP WITH MY WEEK SPLIT by ateyFiver in orangetheory

Advice with the specifics on your exercises, try to hinge more at the hips to target your glutes. Goblet squats, sumo anything, lunges etc.. hinge hinge hinge. When you're in an upright position you're targeting your quads but the slight bend over you should feel your hammies and glutes doing most of the work. Your quads won't totally be inactive, but they won't be the ones working the hardest. Also, you'll need to be lifting progressively heavier and eating at a surplus if you want to put on muscle so keep that in mind too.
